Clarence plays his Bender for Playboy After Dark/1968Ormond September 25th, 2011, 05:29 PM Priceless. 3eYN_LwgDSk gitold September 25th, 2011, 05:47 PM incredible!!!! bingy September 25th, 2011, 05:49 PM Weird collision of cultures that was the 60's. Ormond September 25th, 2011, 07:23 PM Very strange collision. Clueless Bunnies and the vanguard of the L. A. Folk/Rock music sharing the same stage...life was getting ready to change in big way for all. telemaster1953 September 25th, 2011, 11:17 PM cool revbend November 28th, 2011, 10:59 AM Question: I have a 1966 serial number 159117 Telecaster with a Parsons/White string bender that was installed personally by Gene back in the late 1970s it is is excellent condition. I have owned this guitar since about 1978 and have used it for many gigs. I am currently in need of cash and am trying to find a realistic value for this piece in order to sell it. I know from research that telecaster guitars from this era and condition can go go over ten thousand dollars WITHOUT benders I am sure that for the purest the bender installation has devalued this piece but does anyone have any idea what this could bring in a real (But limited) market. I hate to part with this instrument but must pay my rent as well! P.S. Jimmy Page has this same set in a 1966 as well. Stuco November 28th, 2011, 11:04 AM Those conversations on that show were always a little awkward, lol. Great performance! Good luck, that is a really cool tele you have there. bingy November 28th, 2011, 11:12 AM I think there's no telling what this guitar could bring. You're just going to have to test the market. Set your price and see what happens. It's a bad time, so, don't get your hopes too high. I hope you get to hold on to it. Panheadless November 28th, 2011, 11:35 AM What a find! motwang November 28th, 2011, 11:36 AM I wonder if this is Marty Stuarts "Clarence" in the video. Cool video. I think Clarence White's life and guitars ( also Tony Rice's Martin) is very interesting. gr81dorn November 28th, 2011, 12:27 PM I wonder if this is Marty Stuarts "Clarence" in the video. Cool video. I think Clarence White's life and guitars ( also Tony Rice's Martin) is very interesting. Marty's "Clarence" IS "Clarence". It has been mod'd slightly sine this video and is way more beat-up, but that's the original and that's Marty's #1. Marty has one of the greatest collections ever. He owns some of the most iconic guitars on the planet including several (I've even heard all) of Luther Perkin's guitars and some of Hank Williams' acoustics. He's been quoted as saying he only buys guitars to play, not to hang on the wall, so I LOVE that he has one of the most iconic and treasured teles ever (Clarence) and plays it on stage every day. Don Miller November 28th, 2011, 04:49 PM That clip was filmed shortly after Clarence joined the Byrds....I believe that at this point the guitar was set up as an esquire..just a bridge pickup and a black pickguard...the stringbender had been receintly installed and it didnt get the strat pickup and stickers etc for a while... those were the daze for sure... Telegator November 29th, 2011, 11:36 PM Easy chair... great song, bad dancing  Isn't that Barbi Benton sitting at the foot of the stage? Last I heard of her she had "outgrew brass buckles on her shoes"... know what I mean  scud133 November 30th, 2011, 01:01 AM what a great tone... and what god-awful dancing robt57 November 30th, 2011, 01:11 AM Nice J. Hayes November 30th, 2011, 10:01 AM Ol' Hugh Hefner and that bunch always seemed to favor Jazz in Playboy magazine and clubs. They even had a Playboy Jazz Poll at one point, I don't know if they still do or not....... I agree, that was Clarence's original Tele that Marty Stewart has now and it sounded great. Anyone know what he was using for distortion in the second song?.......JH in Va. Silverface November 30th, 2011, 03:59 PM Jerry, at that time it was probably his Fender Blender, which he mercifully retired when he built his own based on the same Valley Arts design Sneaky used as a basis for his. IMO Clarence's early distortion tone was pretty awful (and Clarence generally agreed with that). By late '69/early '70 he was getting a far fatter tone, having switched fuzz units, learned how to crank the amps and "play" them with the Velvet Hammer pickups/wiring harness Red Rhodes installed. There's a very distinct difference in his clean and distorted sounds between the '68/69 stuff and later material (especially live). The two legit live recordings are like night and day. MiloCroton December 12th, 2011, 10:02 AM what a great tone... and what god-awful dancing Speak for yourself, even the people sitting down are grooving a million times better than the typical crowd of today. Ray G December 12th, 2011, 10:20 AM I saw this video for the 1st time over the weekend in addition to a recent video of Marty Stuart and Roger McGuinn playing "You Aint Going Nowhere" at the Grand Ole Opry. Marty was playing Clarence and sounded fantastic really capturing Clarence White's feel. |
