In an attempt to hook up the young guityar player in my band, I bought an Estey T-42 from a friend of mine. Unfortunately, the guitar player is going for a Peavey Vyper - sheesh, kids these days...
Anyway, it's an Estey T-42, from around 1966, with two EL84 type power tubes and two 12AX7 preamp tubes, and a 15" Jensen ceramic speaker. Just hi and low inputs and volume and tone, both of which I keep cranked, and it is still a bassy amp.
There isn't too much information around about these amps, but this one is truly point-to-point wired. I've never seen that before (pics soon).
The power tubes are 7189A, which have a different pin-out, so even though they look like EL84s, EL84s won't work in it. I tried, and no sound comes out.
This amp is kind of like a Pro Junior with a bigger speaker, and likewise, does not have much headroom.
The cab is particle board, so I think I'm going to make a basic pine cab for it to make it lighter, and possibly use a neo 15 I have, but that one is 16 ohms, I'm not sure what this amp is Ohm-wise. And I think I will have a tech replace the two-prong cord for me.
Any other proud Estey owners out there? I wish this one had the tremolo. Apparently, this company is associated with Magnatone, so I'm sure the trem would have been really nice.
