Telliot September 14th, 2011, 02:42 AM Need help from you Wiring Gurus:
I just bought a Super Switch and a custom Warmoth PG for my Strat. I want to wire it like a B-Bender Tele (middle position: neck+bridge), with a master tone and volume (I'm deleting the top knob to move it further away from my hand while I'm playing ((there's no hole under that white sticker))).

This is Fender's schematic:

What I can't figure out is how to wire the switch. The schematic shows the switch from the top view, but the Super Switch has two rows of tabs. How can I tell from this how to wire it?? I've looked at StewMac's site for an explanation, but it only confused me more. I'm basically a novice with this stuff. Even though I've wired up my other guitars, I was only following a diagram and feel totally lost beyond a certain point.
Help please!!
gumbo September 14th, 2011, 08:22 AM Hi There!
At the risk of pushing this thread further into a non-appropriate forum, I think that you're looking at two completely different switches...
...and yes, ( although I'll probably get banned for saying it here!) I do in fact own both a Tele and a S&^%t.....
...and I know what a Superswitch looks like because I own one of them too.
My Tele doesn't use the switching that you're trying to emulate, but I'm sure plenty of posters will set you on the right track.... in the meantime you might inquire whether you can send the Superswitch back..
Good luck.
Telliot September 14th, 2011, 10:08 AM Is this an inappropriate forum for this thread?? [gulp]
What switch comes in the B-Bender, then, if not the Super Switch? The one I bought is a Fender switch....

gumbo September 15th, 2011, 07:37 AM Hi again Telliot.. Didn't mean to scare you off about the 'inappropriate' bit...just thought you may get more direct results from the Tele Tech Forum and just reference "Nashville'...forget about the B-bender part, 'coz I think they'd be the same in this department..
..sorry, my knowledge just doesn't include details on this model so I can't be much help to you...other than to say that I was under the impression (rightly or wrongly!!) that the Nashville didn't use a double-gang switch (like the Superswitch) in order to get that pickup combination ... others here are far more knowledgeable than me..hopefully someone will chime in soon..!!!!!
Don't lose hope.. :-)

Check the published parts list for the Fender part number for this particular switch. You want 0039003000. You probably have 0992251000.

There are at least two styles of 'super' switch, one more super (two wafers) than the other (single wafer). I believe I'm right in saying that the dual wafer can do everything that the single wafer can (just with different wiring), but the single wafer can't do everything that the dual wafer can.

The Bender's is the single wafer.
Then there is the standard strat 5-way, which I believe is different again.
J. Hayes September 15th, 2011, 01:44 PM I replaced that with the standard 3-way switch which was wired up to the neck and bridge pickups and then hooked the middle pickup to a mini toggle switch for off/on which was placed between the volume and tone knobs. I really liked that setup.............JH in Va.
Telliot September 15th, 2011, 03:58 PM A guy from another forum drew this up for me. I think I understand it better, now. The nice thing about the Superswitch is the versatility it gives you to try new combinations.
Raybob September 16th, 2011, 02:33 AM Don't know about Super switch but Stew-Mac offers a "Mega-Switch" that is a 5 position switch that can be wired many different ways. It comes with a paper that diagrams all the different possibilities. I have the switch in a tele guitar with a middle strat p/u. It's wired so that the middle position gives bridge and neck p/u's and defeats the middle one. Works great.
gumbo September 16th, 2011, 05:44 AM Well, Telliot ... at least I was close..
...I guess you just have to decide what you want to do with what you've got..including the available space in the Strat rout for the double-wafer switch..
...hope it all goes well for you

Thanks! I wired it up last night; worked like a champ. The only thing I had to change was, the neck and bridge leads are swapped in the diagram. Other than that it worked right out of the gate. :)
jmiles September 16th, 2011, 06:21 PM Glad you got it sussed out! I just use the standard 5-way selector switch, and change one of the pots to one with a push/pull switch for the bridge pup. That way, I can get bridge/ neck, and all three pups at once. With the 5-way in the bridge only position, if I pull the push/pull pot, the bridge pup goes through the tone control. It's on my '57 Custom-colored Strat, so I didn't want to change much,,,, but as the pots had been replaced sometime in the past,,,, I didn't feel too bad about doing it. Same scheme on my Baritone Strat.
jmiles September 16th, 2011, 06:32 PM BTW, if anyone is interested in taking a gander at these two guitars, they're here, under my Hu Duck Xing moniker.

All my Chinese friends had chosen their "American" names, so I only thought it fair that I get to choose my "Chinese" name!
gumbo September 17th, 2011, 03:24 AM ...wouldn't let me open the jpg unless I joined up...
