Double Benders at work

I have had a lot of questions lately about the efficacy of Double-Benders. I say they definitely have a place in the bender universe. This is a SHORT VERSION of a vid I did that just features the more intense bender parts. I am a big fan of these things!

I love it, but I'm afraid 2 benders at once is one too many for me.

Very cool Ormond. You got some sweet moves. Hey by the way I used to live near the San Bernardino area back in 86-90. I used to play at The Hub in Rialto. Is that place still around? Your definetely one of the better guitarists I've heard come out of that area.

Hi, Brian! Hope to see you at NAMM again this year. Thanks Will and Telex for the comments. CoolB - Oh, yea, the "Hub" Can see it from the new freeway now! I used to live in Michigan. The U. P. I am a Yooper in my heart, eh! Calumet, Eagle & Copper Harbor boy here...so amazingly beautiful up there!

Very nice! I like!
I did notice something I have a question about --- I noticed that you never seemed to bend a string the old fashioned way (with your fingers). Would you say that was typical of accomplished b-bender players? Just curious...

Tater - pretty much yes for the B string because most finger bends in Rock or Country are done on the G string...it's the way Rock has pretty much always been done. I don't think there has ever been nearly as much finger bending of the B string in these genres. And it is harder to bend the B. So I'd say I bend the B string with the bender about 90% of the time...but the traditional G whole step bend, which is a staple of Rock music, is something I still do at least 50% of the time with the fingers. And overall, I probably bend the B string 80% of the time and the G maybe 20% of the time. Someone like Brad Paisley who does not like using a B Bender (he told me himself) will use the G Bender plenty because that is all he takes on stage. And even though Brad has B Benders at home, I don't think he has even used them on his records. HOWEVER...if I move away from Country into Blues/Rock I will almost always bend the G with my fingers. The reason I went to a B/G combo guitar is to be able to use both benders at the same time to come a little closer to a pedal steel sound.

Real nice Kevin! I hadn't heard this before, as I moved my computer recently and hadn't hooked up the speakers. Your playing is clean and precise, and your bending is creative and right on. Thanks for putting this on! Nice sound too. I've got a couple Z's....took me awhile to warm up to them....now I'm a big fan.

Thanks all for commenting. Re: the compressor - I used the lowly Boss CS3 - also used the Boss Noise Suppressor and the Boss DD3 Delay. Probably going to try some Wampler pedals in the near future.

The Hub is still around and kickin - but it's more of a pay to play place now. Not really booking live bands unless you're willing to sell the tickets for them.
