When I got in the back of the limo and the "artist" said "Everybody, this is my new bass player. You're a big boy. You don't mind doing some body guarding for me, too, do ya?"

I should have known they were trouble when the ad said they were looking for something like the work Jaco Pastorius did with Joni Mitchel.
I knew it was a mistake coming when they said "How are your 32nd notes?"

Back in 1995- I knew I was in trouble when the first question I got asked upon entering the audition room was- "Do you have a driver's license?"
Everybody there except for me was over 30.
Next question was- Can you drive a 28 foot U-haul truck? 'Cause we bought one.
So in addition to playing bass, I drove a 28 foot U-haul truck, with no brakes to speak of, for an entire Wisconsin winter.
Weirdest thing about the whole arrangement, is I was the only guy in the band without a car. All of the other guys had cars, but no licenses, so they would not drive the band truck. That had to be all legal. No matter what they did when they drove their own cars, the guy driving the band truck had to have a license. So I just told them if I did it, I'd have to be able to use the truck whenever I needed a car for anything. They agreed, which leads me to-
I knew I was in trouble, when I drove the U-haul through the drive through at Burger King, and got "Grandma's Attic" stuck in the overhang at the window.
