I never thought I would even visit this forum but yet here I am. I am going to be playing a musical shabbat and have all the music but the chord changes are fast and the keys are truly awful with or without a capo it's pretty awful. I have over a week to practice but I can't even get into it because it's really hard. I know I can do it, my mom does it and I'm a better/different player than her. I will be probably having a video chat with her/lesson to figure this all out. But any help you guys can give is a good start.

Oh and because I love to brag I'll be doing this with my new bonanzinga clarksdale(L-05) made of adirondack spruce and brazilian rosewood.

Are you sure you have to play that fast? Isn't that just the sound of the dotted-eighth-note delay?

I keed! I keed!

If you're comping and the changes are flying by, try stripping the chords down to say three notes.

Or take out some of the transition chords and just play the ones that are prominent. (Sorry I don't know the musical terms for that). Many chord sheets are more piano oriented and playing so many chords on guitar doesn't sound right, to me at least.

Thanks, this is one of my plans, The problem is I haven't heard some of these prayers in so long that I need to find the right recording of them while I'm at it.

...without a capo it's pretty awful.

If it's that hard and a capo will help, then by all means use the capo.

I say triads + transposition

I feel your pain. I was the guitarist in" Always Patsy cline" and they're tough without the quick changes.

The only advise I have is practice practice practice.

I know not much help.

Not to worry I am.

I even tried a prayer I know well tonight and it sounded awful.

I'll assume this is a reform service; will there be a chazan or other fill, like a choir? Are you expected to fill a large sanctuary?

No, it's Hillel at ASU but I did find out I don't need to play all the prayers and I will have some other musicians with me.
