keithb7 August 7th, 2011, 08:34 PM I just bought my first Gibson ES. It is a 2008 ES-339. A scaled down version of the ES-335. I was surprised to find no ES club had been started yet, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling. All ES owners are welcome. Only one rule. You must post pics!
I picked this one up locally for $1400. Was in very good shape and played very little. I love how it sounds. It's different than my Strat or Tele, and I believe a nice addition to my collection. I had a Les Paul Classic and never really bonded with it. It was hard on my shoulders on stage due to it's weight. This ES seems lighter, and sounds excellent. I can feel the bonding already!

RubyRae August 11th, 2011, 05:02 PM Ya, Keith there is a "ES-335 Club", and there is also the main club titled:
"Hollow, how are you? (The Hollow & Semi-Hollow owners club)"
Either way, Now I can be a member of all 3.
Here is my beloved sunburst double flame top Gibson ES-335 (2001) with upgraded Peter Florance Voodoo 59's. Pots are upgraded vintage kit, 500k CTS pots and .022 Hovland Paper in Oil Muisccaps. Grover tuners, and can't forget those gold top hat knobs! Nails the vintage PAF sound, and love this guitar more than any other.
tonyj August 15th, 2011, 09:25 AM ... and another ES 339 basking in the sunshine here in Alberta. The guitar seems to be more 'yellow' in the direct sun, or at least it photographs that way (I'm too lazy to mess with the camera's white balance), but who cares?..... this is really a heck of a guitar! I love it.

Humbuster August 26th, 2011, 10:36 AM I have been through so many ES 335s it is not funny anymore.
Past loves:
Historic 63 Block, sounded great, lots of build issues.

335 Fat Neck. Still cannot remember why I sold it, a good one.

My 2010 Birdseye 335 I got earlier this year. It was not a bargain.
I was jonesing for a hollow Gibson, but was never crazy about the looks of the pickguard.
Am I head-over-heels in love with this guitar? Have I bonded with it? No.
But she sure is pretty, both in her looks (I added the vintage knobs) and her bell-like tone.

Plugged-In September 5th, 2011, 08:58 PM Here is my 1979 Gibson ES-335. It is all stock, including a coil tap switch, which Gibson installed for a few years on ES-335s, along with the TP-6 tailpiece. As mainly a blues, soul, and R&B music fan, I feel that guitars of this type will deliver the tone moreso than most any other. If it has an f-hole, you are well on your way.

winny pooh April 24th, 2012, 08:32 AM Checking out this thread again I just realised why the ES 339's look a bit odd. The pickups are huge! I reckon Gibson could try chrone mini buckers w small rings in those guitars to balance out the look of the smaller body a little.
Edit: plus narrow the lower bout width by an inch.

tonyj May 17th, 2012, 03:33 PM It's now nearly a year since I bought my very first 'ES' style guitar , a '339' which gained me entry into this hallowed owner's club.
Since then, and after being so very much impressed by the ES-339, I have acquired a further two 'ES' style guitars.
Please allow me to (proudly) introduce my 1999 ES-335 '59 Dot Reissue and my latest acquisition, a 2004 'ES-355' BBKing 'Lucille'.

These 'ES's really are an outstanding series of guitars. No regrets whatsoever - I just luv 'em! ....... So who's gonna spoil me if I don't?

RubyRae September 8th, 2012, 02:51 PM Nic eone Andy, love the Bigsby too. What year and model?
AndyHz September 9th, 2012, 09:56 AM Its a.2002 355 custom. The guy I bougut it from said it was originally joe Perry's.. spparently it was made with that same finish as his signature model to celebrate the last year it was being made. Dont know if I necessarily believe it.. but Gibson did confirm it was a custom order 1 of 1.
winny pooh September 13th, 2012, 02:18 PM Looks great

I have a 1980 edition ES347 that I picked up on the cheap because original owner shaved the neck to a thinner profile. Very versatile axe, have considered replacement of original pups and brass nut, but why fool with it? Love the TP6 tailpiece.
Murky September 25th, 2012, 09:40 PM I declared this to be the last guitar I'll buy when I brought it home and its made me happy enough that I won't need another. It's been well-used but well-kept and the price was right.
1999 es-137 SE with 57 HBs.
I'm happy to be an es-owner. The 137 suits me fine.
