Nocaster vs Texas and Noiseless

Hello all, just wanted some opinions on these pickups.

My old tele is a heavily customised MIM with a vintage noiseless in the neck and Texas special in the bridge.

When I got my nocaster I was a little shocked with how quiet the nocaster pickups were in comparison. So I switched them.

I am now considering replacing the nocaster's pickups, but wanted some feedback on them.

I know it's down to personal taste and styles etc, I play a lot of things and am a one guitar kinda guy. All comments welcome.

Thanks

I think you're going to have to provide more info about what type of sound you want, what you do and don't like about your current pickups, do you want noiseless pickups, etc.

I've got a partscaster with Nocaster bridge, Texas Special neck, with 4 way switch.

The neck and bridge match up well together and love the different tones provided by then 4 way switch.

CS '51 Nocaster pickups are perhaps my favorite pickups on a traditional ash body Telecaster with the modern wiring scheme.

The AlNiCo II magnets used for the polepieces keep the "icepick-in-the-ear" frequencies from getting to be just "too much," and I like that they humbuck when combined in either parallel or series (with a four-way switch).

I never got on with the vintage Nocaster wiring scheme though. I did like them with a 500K vol pot and a TBX tone pot setup however.

I think Texas Special are hotter and have more spank.

Noiseless (and SCN's) I've had, while I appreciate them in the neck position, in the bridge: not so much, for traditional Tele bridge presence and shriek. They seem tamer than even Nocasters to me. YMMV.

After using the CS Nocaster set in several guitars for the last few years, I recently bought a G.E. Smith Tele, and find I like it just a little more, but the output level is no stronger. More clarity and high end over Nocaster pu's though. I believe the neck pu is '52 RI (alnico V), and the bridge is wound 10K hot, yet still has plenty of Tele bite, chime, and twang.

The Custom Shop Nocaster bridge pickup uses Alnico III. I agree that they are very nice pickups.

I think that I will try them back in. I currently just have the Texas Special in my Nocaster (no neck pickup) I love NOT having the neck pickup as an option, just makes me work harder on the bridge pickup. When I restring I think I'll put both Nocaster pickups in for a while. Tempted by a 4 way switch.

Good move! There's a lot more to consider than just raw output.
