Hi there,

I have a Fender Telecaster Custom Special Edition Spalted Maple guitar. I can't find a serial number. Where should I be looking on this guitar?

Thanks

John.

There is nothing at all on the back of the headstock. Actually there are no markings, except for the front of the headstock, that I can see on the guitar at all.

I've taken the back cover off as well and no sticker or markings in there either.

I live in Canada, does that make any difference to the serial number markings?

I find it very strange that there is no visible serial number.

Did you buy it from a reputable shop? Are you sure it is a Fender and not a Warmoth or other partscaster?

I would think he means the neck plate.

You need to remove the neck and look for any markings on the heel of the neck. Also, remove the pickguard, control plate, and bridge plate to see if there are any markings on them or on the wood. It could be a parts guitar.

Ok, lets see if I can figure out how to upload these pictures.

The first two pictures are the Head Stock Front and Back. You can see the Fender logo on the front and nothing on the back. The back is where you would think the serial number would be.

As you can see no serial number on the head stock back or front.

There is no way to remove the neck to see if there are markings here.

I was thinking that there is a back plate to get into the electronics, there might be something there. I took this plate off and there are no markings here.

I really can not see a serial number anywhere on this guitar.

And no I did not buy from a store. The guitar was used. It is about 4 years old.

Ant ideas why there appears to be no serial number?

P.S. Pictures posted in two posts

It looks like the one on the Guitar Center site has the serial number on the back of the headstock.

Yes. But as you can see from my picture, mine does not. This is why I am a bit confused.

Where/who did you buy if from?

Although it looks real, the fact the the serial number is missing is a good indication that the guitar is stolen. Sorry.

Well, I'm hoping that there is another reason. Don't know what it could be. But still hoping.

Could be a guitar from tradetang or dhgate although I think even those have serial numbers. Also does it have push pull pots?

Yes it has push pull pots. Everything seems to be light from what I have read.

Also, based on my readings I think these guitars were made in Korea.

Ok, I just talked to the Fender people. They say the guitar looks legit and that the serial numbers on these were attached on a sticker, on the back of the head stock that could have come off.

Now that I know a little better I will contact the guy I bought it from and see if he can tell me anything more about the serial number sticker.

Thanks everyone.

Talk soon

Well, now that's just plain stupid on Fender's part.
