Need PU Recommendation

I'm building a Tele, it has a maple neck/fretboard and a 3lb 14oz swamp ash body. I want a G.E. Smith sound and am looking/wanting to buy a set of Don Mare pickups. I spoke with Don about what I wanted and he wanted me to see what the forum thought before he made a recommendation. Except for a Don Grosh Retroclassic with Lindy Fralin PU's my other guitars are all Dreadnaughts or OM's Collings or National's etc. I also love Marty Stuart but lean toward what I consider the fuller G.E. Smith SNL sound.

Not on topic but I heard GE when he toured w Hot Tuna who I've caught every year since whenever. GE was the best there that night and Jorma was great!! I've only chatted w Don and not gotten any of his P/Ups, but the fact hes not just telling you to get his X P/Up speaks to his credibility.What does GE use in his Teles ? Doesn't he have a signature model?

Well, I didn't get any recommendations but I read a lot here and looked at a lot of youtube reviews and decided to go with a set of Don Mare Hayrides. There's one youtube clip with Hayride's you may have all heard that's exactly the tone I'm in search of. I just hope I can duplicate it or come close.
