dog fart June 30th, 2011, 06:37 PM I'm thinking about building a BYOC Rat clone. Has anyone here compared this one to the original Rat. The claim is that the Mouse sounds just like the Rat when in position one. Any truth in advertising? Any help is greatly appreciated
DOGMA Dunn June 30th, 2011, 06:53 PM It is a good clone of the older rats of the 80s. If you are seeking a clone of the more modern rats this may not be the one.
However, the mouse has a lot of tweeks and is more like a swiss army knife of distortions.
dog fart June 30th, 2011, 08:18 PM Yeah the tweeks are what kinda got my attention. If position 1 sounds like an old rat the rest of them are just gravy on my mashed potatos. I may not need them, I may not use them but they are there if I need them. The main thing is the sound on position 1
TheWaker43 July 1st, 2011, 12:34 AM I just finished putting mine together last night! I have not played a real Rat so I cannot compare though. Before I bought it I was leaning toward the WF Reissue but read so many great reviews on the BYOC. So while I cannot compare, it is a great OD/dist and really like what I heard in the few hours I have spent with it.
But on the other hand, I too am curious how a real Rat compares.
dog fart July 1st, 2011, 09:35 PM This sounds like it just might be the way to go. Waker, if you don't mind I would like your opinions after you have had sometime to listen to your mouse. How was the build? Anything else you care to add just let me know
TheWaker43 July 2nd, 2011, 12:04 AM Sure, hopefully I will get more time with it this weekend and let you know. I probably would have played more today but I just got a 3leaf Proton in the mail and spent all afternoon messing with that. :) Also like I said, I have no experience with a real Rat but the other pedals I have that kinda/sorta fit in that category are a Keely TS9, OCD v4, Hotcake, Pharaoh, Sovtek Muff, and a DS-1 I have modded. Tele into TRRI and Vox AC15C1.
But as far as the build goes
I have only modded a handful of effects and built just a few myself( SHO, Muff, fuzzes) so not much too experience on my end. In total I spent three afternoons on it. One painting and decals, one on the board, and one wiring. But I only spent an hour or two each night on it, so it could easily be finished in one day. Everything was pretty straightforward, great instructions online. I ran into no problems at all. Quality components. It was my first BYOC and worked the first time I plugged it in. I would probably buy another.
But yeah I will surely let you know how I feel about it once I spend some more time with it.
Doth July 2nd, 2011, 01:43 AM I am just starting my BYOC Mouse, it will be my 6th BYOC builds (ESV Fuzz, 250+, OD2, Envelope Filter, Classic Overdrive). They are easy builds and sound great. Mine should be finished by the end of the holiday weekend. I will try to post some sounds. Here is the paint so far.

Agitator July 3rd, 2011, 10:49 AM Love the paint job. Also: Ratty ratty rat rat rat!
Doth July 3rd, 2011, 11:13 AM Thanks guys. It has been a little hot here this weekend 95+, so I haven't been motivated to sit with a hot soldering gun. However, I will let you know how it sounds as soon a I finish.
