TC Electronic Flashback Delay: Dotted 8th Question

Does anyone with the TC Elec. Flashback Delay have any advice on properly using the "Dotted 8th" setting/switch?

I'm considering buying this pedal...but when I used it in-store...it didn't sound exactly right.
I have achieved a proper hillsong/U2 dotted 8th setting by using my digital behringer DD-110 (Long digital repeats) and my Analog Rogue Delay (shorter analog repeats) together to get the proper repeats. However, changing tempo is a strain...to say the least. (Hence my interest in consolidating to one pedal with a dotted 8th setting ability)

The TC Electronic Flashback "Dotted 8th" switch setting sounds nothing like that. Has anyone else here had the same experience?

I'm curious as to how you're using two pedals to achieve a dotted 8th sound?

It appears that you are using the Behringer delay to achieve a quarter note delay in addition to the dotted eighth.

The TC Nova Delay has this quarter+dotted8 subdivision as a setting, but I think the Flashback does not. So, you are only hearing one delay signal on it. This is the typical sound for Hillsong stuff.

Nigel, and some other Hillsong players have used two DD-5s (one set to quarter notes, the other to dotted eighths) with one FS-5U (stereo y cable) in order to tap the same tempo into both delays. That would work very well for what sound you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

EXACTLY!!

Wow, I don't have pedals that can take an external tap pedal...sadly. That's why changing the tempo of the beats is soooo hard. I have to guesstimate the tempo from the knob settings and it takes half the song.

The TC Flashback delay does have the "dotted 8th + quarter notes" setting, as well as a "Dotted 8th" setting on a little 3-way toggle switch in between the top 2 knobs.

I guess I didn't know that I had setup a "dotted 8th + quarter notes" setting with my 2 pedals (Behringer and Rogue) instead of just a "dotted 8th".
That's why I didn't recognize the correct sound of the beats when trying out the TC Flashback Delay in the store.

the next time I go back I will try the "dotted 8th + quarter notes" setting on the TC Flashback delay and see if that matches up with the delay beats I have on my board from my 2 pedals currently.

Thanks!!

This also solved my question. Glad that's figured out =]

How is the flashback..?? Was trying to compare that to the new boss dd7..since they
both have analog setting and looping available??

Now that I think about it, the y cable for the 2 DD-5s would have to be mono, not stereo.

Oh, and the fact that the Flashback has dotted8+quarter is really cool. For some reason, I thought it was quarter, dotted 8th, and something else.

Both the Flashback and DD-7 have an analog mode and a 40-second looper.

The DD-7's analog mode is a model of the famed Boss DM-2 analog delay. It's pretty convincing, in my opinion.

However, you can only tap a quarter note subdivision in analog mode on the DD-7; the flashback can do all subdivisions in almost all modes.

Unfortunately, the Flashback only offers Audio Tap, and no external or built-in traditional tapping.

But, the Flashback is more versatile, overall. It would be the cat's pajamas if it had external tap tempo though.

I still like my DD-7: it sounds great, and is built like a tank. But I'm a total TC fanboy. The Nova Delay will never be replaced - only temporarily removed, when I can afford to send it to Dan from this1smyne to be modded for external tap and preset switching.

I'd say go Flashback. The Audio Tapping is not hard to get the hang of.

Tc makes some great products, to be honest. Id much prefer a full tc board over a full boss board.

As stated in my title, I just picked up the TC Flashback Delay and Looper at GC this past Thursday. I talked the GC guy into price matching it from MF for $159. I had to pay tax, which brought the price up a bit more than MF (no tax and free shipping), but instant gratification was worth bringing it home that moment.

I am truly impressed with this pedal, does all different types of Delays, has a 40 second looper, and you can do multiple overdubs over the initial loop. You can even download pro musician delay settings called toneprints. Pretty awesome. It will be even greater once they open up the toneprint software to the public to create our own toneprints. But the one's that are on the site by the pros are very impressive.

As stated by others, the strum tempo takes some getting used to as opposed to tap tempo, but I am a home studio guy and don't gig live so it is perfect for me.

The only other problem is that I end up messing around with the pedal so much that i neglect the most important part of guitar playing, and that is serious and focused practice. But I am having fun and the focused practice will resume once i get over the newness of this pedal.

I just want to also say that I love all of the contributors of this forum. Everyone is extremely helpful and supportive and it makes my guitar hobby/obsession that much more enjoyable.

Peace.

I agree with the above. The TC does make some great fx. I like the tuners.

FYI - MF and GC are one and the same company.

Yeah, the settings are great! I just don't get the same "effect" that I get with my two delay pedals. I dunno, I still haven't made it back to that "Music & Arts" store to play with the pedal some more.
