your fuzz of choicemarquis de jonny January 25th, 2005, 02:41 PM i've already got a big muff but i'm looking for something fuzzier. any suggestions? bluescube January 25th, 2005, 03:30 PM I like the subdecay birthday fuzz. Only 25 made though :( He does have a new fuzz coming out. The EHX double muff is a good fuzz-stortion. BB January 25th, 2005, 05:19 PM i've already got a big muff but i'm looking for something fuzzier. any suggestions? There are some great fuzztones out there and I won't be happy till I try em all! I really like Fulltones 69 and Soulbender. Those two worked very well with my set-up and it was very hard to turn em off once I heard how good they sound. The clips of the London Fuzz by MJM sound wonderfuly corpulent. On the high end of the scale, The AM Sun Face sounds killer. Keeleys Fuzz Head also looks like a winner. I have not tried these, but from all acounts, they are the cat's meow. I've been searching for a "cost effective" fuzz tone ever since a tdpri brother was kind enough to send me three of his for a test spin. It's such a simple circut, yet seems so hard to make one sound good. In my months of searching, I came across a very nice fella in Canada that hand makes pedals at a price point lower than any I've yet to find. I have one of his hand wired fuzz pedals on order. It should be here any day, so I'll fill ya in on the tone details as soon as I have chance to get a buzz on! Eric K January 26th, 2005, 05:15 AM i like Proco Rat2. Also mixed well with tele. Deacon Blues January 26th, 2005, 06:21 AM "It's such a simple circut, yet seems so hard to make one sound good." Dang, that is such a true statement. I tried a friend's Univox SuperFuzz and I was an instant fuzz junky. To me that is the best sounding fuzz ever made. Originals have gotten expensive, though. Also, they had alot of extra noise. Noise seems to be the biggest problem with most fuzz circuits. I've tried the Keeley and the Protone units. The Keeley sounded best to my ears, but it still has alot of noise. The Protone was less sonically pleasing and still noisey. I'm currently using the Big Muff Pi RI and IMHO it's the best bang for the buck out there. Still, it's not a SuperFuzz. Silverface January 26th, 2005, 10:09 AM ZVex Fuzz Factory without question. You can get anything imaginable out of it. snoglobe January 26th, 2005, 10:24 AM i've already got a big muff but i'm looking for something fuzzier. any suggestions? On any other forum, this would be just plain rude. marquis de jonny January 26th, 2005, 10:48 AM On any other forum, this would be just plain rude. i'm so misunderstood ;) jidai January 26th, 2005, 12:55 PM I just throw in some low-toned high breakup Boss SD-1 before my Big Muff in the signal chain and BAM! Shnook January 26th, 2005, 05:33 PM It's not out yet, but keep an eye out for the new Seymour Duncan Fuzz pedal. It's *very* similar to the fuzz pedal Blues Saraceno's dad makes for $375 a pop. Similar except for the price. I believe the Duncan pedal has a street price of around $99. sixtiesreject February 3rd, 2005, 12:20 PM Hello Hello-- 1st post! The Solasound Tonebender MK II and SuperFuzz [and it's many variations...] are two of my faves. The original Tonebender [Sola and Vox] with 2 transistors sounds great with the right amp, too. brian. halouis February 3rd, 2005, 12:45 PM im a bit of a fuzz junky. but currently just have a '69 fulltone (fuzzface), and a Foxtone Machine clone built by Lance. Both are super cool. But now I'm itching for a Big Muff as I've never had one. have played with them though. and I want to get a Bosstone por Superfuzz by Voodoo Lab again. THose are super nasty spitty fuzzes. Great stuff for recording. My RAT and Hot Cake can doo fuzz as well, but I dont use it for it. BB February 3rd, 2005, 01:55 PM I just bought a FabFuzz from a fella in Canada who hand makes them for $65.00. Quite a bargain imo. Very fuzz face style fuzz with a ton of gain and that wonderful corpulent, lardacious, uncontrolable rudeness I love in a fuzz. I still may pop for a London Fuzz, 69 or some other boteekee someday, but till then, this will do nicely. bagpipe February 3rd, 2005, 03:21 PM I just bought a FabFuzz from a fella in Canada who hand makes them for $65.00. Quite a bargain imo. Can you provide more details on this. Does he have a website ? Teletwang February 3rd, 2005, 03:59 PM Call me crazy, but I love my P.E. Experience. While its nearly untamable, occasionaly unpredictable & absolutely impractical to use on stage, it does fuzz extremely well. noodle_world February 4th, 2005, 07:22 PM i built an ampeg scrambler. its the best fuzz/modulation pedal ever. blungo2 February 5th, 2005, 06:04 PM I like the Lovetone Big Cheese, great nasty snarly fuzz in the same vein as the Univox Super Fuzz (not the Voodoo Labs Superfuzz which is a Bosstone clone), but without the octave up stuff. In the BM vein, i like Frantone's The Sweet. BB February 7th, 2005, 12:49 PM I just bought a FabFuzz from a fella in Canada who hand makes them for $65.00. Quite a bargain imo. Can you provide more details on this. Does he have a website ? Contact Craig at www.awendamusic.com Not only does he make great, low cost pedals, he's a great person. Check it out! Bernie February 8th, 2005, 10:02 PM The Danelectro French Toast is a great fuzz, and it's only about $40.00. Comes with an octave up, which you can switch out. The Fuzz Factory is a great fuzz, too, but you have to work with it and get to know it - it can be very unpredictable if you aren't at one with it...The French Toast is pretty much plug it in, turn a knob or two and you're there - big and thick and fuzzy - I've heard it's the same circuit as the Foxx Tone Machine. -Bernie Upgrade February 8th, 2005, 10:25 PM Divided by 13 has an awesome fuzz Stardust Andi February 8th, 2005, 10:34 PM Zvex's Woolly Mammoth looks like quite a monster with all the of the bass tone it retains(It is a bass fuzz, afterall), and the additional plus of a noise-gate kinda thingy. Seeing how the new silk-screened top of the Fuzz Factory has really dropped the price, I may never feel justified getting a W.M., but the demo sure sounds fabulous...Even though it doesn't have the F.F.'s crazy tweak elements, having a low bottom end instead of a potentially fizzy one sounds sooooper to me. http://media.zvex.com/mammoth.mov Sell your SG, Marquis, and you just might match the price of (COUNT 'EM) two Zvex pedals in Japan! heaven forbid... Sunburst Island February 8th, 2005, 11:58 PM Without a doubt, hands down, the ZVex Fuzz Factory! Especially the orange sparkle Kanji, that's my personal preference. You can choose your skin. hookstrapped February 9th, 2005, 07:29 AM Here are mine, various flavors. MJM London -- fat creamy, bass-heavy fuzzface, cleans up to a fat warm OD Jacques Wercer Box -- another fuzzface but with an airier less bass-heavy tone MJM 2-knob Britbender -- raw, nasty Tonebender clone, very silicon-sounding but without the endless sustain (a good thing IMO), cleans up to a hard-edged OD Tym BuzzRite -- Mosrite Fuzzrite clone, very thick and buzzy at the low end, smooths out nicely in the highs, best fuzz at chords I've ever played (better than a Fuzz Factory even) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/hookstrapped/Jan04_board.jpg the guy who invented fire February 9th, 2005, 08:23 AM I really like my Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz, I love the Zvex fuzz factory, the new Duncan Tweak Fuzz looks to be very hip as well... slack February 9th, 2005, 01:10 PM Yeah, I can't choose either. Currently rotating MJM London Fuzz, Pedalworx McFuzz, Fulltone Ultimate Octave, and a real 72 Fuzz Face which kills everything else but doubles as a radio when the fuzz is dimed. hookstrapped, we have some similar taste in pedals. That looks like an Analog Man SD-1. My AM SD-1/808 Silver is my favorite tube screamer. I've also got the old script Phase 90 in the chain right now, but am looking for a script Phase 45 to swap out and try. hookstrapped February 9th, 2005, 07:59 PM Yeah, I can't choose either. I generally like the Boss asymmetrical - edgier. I recently got a Lovepedal COT 50 (not in the pic) -- great overdrive pedal, great at pushing an amp. Works really well with this EL84 class A I have which didn't like the SD-1. I'm set between the two for OD and my fuzzes rolled off. I love my script 90. That blue box in the upper left is a 2-LFO 4ms Phaseur Fleur - another wonderfully organic phaser but with 2-LFO craziness. slack February 9th, 2005, 10:35 PM I love my script 90. I just picked up a Red Witch Moon Phaser in a deal with a bunch of other effects. Haven't tried it yet, but sounds interesting. Btw, my AM SD-1/808 Silver doesn't have the push-pull pot. It's setup with symmetrical Ibanez style clipping. And I use it with Fender amps almost exclusively. hookstrapped February 9th, 2005, 10:46 PM I love my script 90. Phaser and Fuzz together is my favorite combination of effects. I'd like to try a Red Witch but next for me, I think, is a vibe -- probably Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe Junior or Mojo Vibe Deacon Blues February 10th, 2005, 06:37 AM Anyone have experience with the Analogman Sunface? Seems to be a fuzzface clone. Kind of expensive, though. Also, if anybody has or could take some pictures of the guts to their Big Muff Pi re-issue, I could use them. Mine has started popping wires off the circuit board. I need a visual to show me where they need to be re-attached. I ordered Jack Orman's e-book on the Muff/Rat, but I'm no good with schematics. I need pictures. Nick Fanis February 11th, 2005, 08:01 AM I really love the cheap DANELECTRO GRILLED CHEESE this thing is NASTY! Steven February 14th, 2005, 01:42 PM I use the Mista´Fuzz! Jist got it, but I must say that it sounds just as I want a germanium Fuzz to sound. It didnt cost a furtune either - around 130 bucks. Theres only one problem: My pedal board is full... maby I shoud take some other pedal out of it to make room? Absolutely not! I will get me a bigger board instead! :D |
