MIJ Telecaster EXTRAD Owner's Club

Thought I would give a shout out to all of you EXTRAD owners out there.

Mine is a 1995 TL-52D/EX Reissue EXTRAD. Purchased new in Denver, CO at Colorado Music downtown (now rehearsal studios). Everything is original and the vintage 'V' neck is ultra comfortable. The thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish shows some nice woodgrain (although you cannot see in the photos...)

Although I was not aware of the "Custom Edition" (EXTRAD) when I bought it, it was an awesome surprise finding out about through internet searches and the TDPRI site.

Funny story: When I bought it, I decided to see if the store owner would throw in a hardshell case. He said he didin't have any extra hardshell cases for Teles. He did find a Fender Jaguar case laying all by its lonesome in the corner. We tried to fit the Tele in the case but with no luck. He then got out a hammer and proceeded to pound the crap out of the styrofoam. After about 10 minutes, voila! I bet I am the only Telecaster owner out there with an OHSC for a Fender Jag! LOL!

So let's see those necksocket pictures of your EXTRAD!

OK, OK, so after some more reading and research, it seems that there is some controversy regarding what is truly and EXTRAD. So regardless of what my baby is, it still screams and twangs like no other Tele I have had...

I have scoured the internet for information on the "EX" stamping in the necksocket but have come up with a mixed bag....

I was basing a lot of my findings on Xhefri's guitars posting:

Sneakyjapan, a frequent poster to the forum, seems to think otherwise on the "EX" neckstamp indicating an EXTRAD guitar. Due to many postings from Sneakyjapan, I respect and welcome the input. Hopefully someday an actual worker from Fender Japan can put this issue to bed.

I welcome all posts here and look forward to a great discussion on this topic!

Cheers!

Neither of these guitars are ExTrad models. They stopped making them in @ 1991. There is an unmistakable decal on the back of the headstock. I had an ExTrad Tele in Tokyo at one point. It's somewhere in Colorado I think...

Another CTL50 same seller

I held an ExTrad in the flesh a few weeks ago, it had the dimpled corner US bridge plate, nitro finish...was light as a feather and had the oval ExTrad label on the headstock. 'EX' on any FujiGen guitar usually means "export"

My '52 RI Extrad Tele was the only one I have ever seen on eBay and I had to have it! Came from Japan.
Very glad I did too. An absolutely awesome guitar in every way. Well apart from the intonation - one day I will get some compensated saddles - it's not that bad but I use capos.

When I got it it felt a bit stiff. Then I realised that the previous owner must have used a real wax polish on the neck. I removed it from the back with IPA. The fretboard gets cleaned with the next set of strings. You can see the dark patches on the fretboard.

It's very light for a Tele, about 6-6.5 lbs on my suspect bathroom scales.

I hope the pics come out. If anyone can date it I would be very pleased. The serial number is on the US style part chromed bridge plate 14XXX. I would guess late '80s/early '90s?
