Chet Style Delay

So, I am not usually a pedal person (haven't truly used one for about 20 years), but I really want to get that dreamy delay sound on Chet's Christmas record. Any advice on a pedal for this and also some advice on settings? Whenever I listen to clips online, the players are bad and the style is nothing like what I want to play, so they are not much help. That is one of my all-time favorite albums!
I would suggest an Echoplex-type unit or a pedal that simulates tape delay. That would have been the type of delay on those old recordings. You could also probably make an affordable analog delay like an MXR Carbon Copy work for that sound. For that time period, I would avoid a digital delay.
Brian Wampler makes a Faux Tape Echo pedal. There is a demo on YouTube. I've had no experience with it particularly, however I've been very happy with his other pedals.
As for settings...it will vary by song, but more than likely you'll usually want a simple quick repeat. You'll hear it.

From what I have heard from other delay fans it does the tape emulation effect very well. But it does have a $300 price tag but it is cheaper than the Empress Vintage Delay.

If you can afford it the Strymon will get you closest to that sound...

Thanks all. I just learned of the Strymon at work today. From what I can tell, it is the best option. The question is whether it is a hundred bucks better than the Wampler. I'm thinking it might be.

I just purchased a Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. Work great for vintage Chet echo...and at extreme settings it can do crazy oscillation stuff. Sounds great clean....and the delay seems to have a nice rhythm to it regardless of settings...if that makes sense. Easily melds with almost any tempo. I purchased the PCB version which is VERY well constructed. I am very happy with my decision...and I checked out almost all delays..including the Strymon. Good luck!
