Squier 24.75" Neck on a Custom II?

Hi there.

Would I be able to easily replace the neck of a Squier Modified Custom II Tele (the one with the P90s) with the 24.75" rosewood neck of a VM thinline Tele?

I prefer the shorter scale, and can get the neck from a dealer; I'm just wondering if the intonation will be ok or if I would have to move the bridge? I want to make this project as simple as possible... I'd like to get the P90s Squier, but I'd like a 24.75" neck with a rosewood fingerboard.

Thanks,

C

I guess the real question here is whether or not the neck on the Squier VM Thinline is a 24.75" CONVERSION neck or not.

I've looked at just about every similar conversation that's come up in Google and no one seems to have any idea.

Here's what I've found:

1) Yes, it is a conversion neck, and all you have to do is put the 24.75" neck on the Custom II body.

2) No, it is not a conversion neck, but you can put it on the Custom II body and just adjust the screws in the saddles very slightly because it's SOOO close.

3) No, it is not a conversion neck, and it will not work properly unless you move the bridge closer to the nut.

Let's chat!

I've heard 3) more than the other two, if it can help

You always have the option of ordering a custom 24.75'' scale neck from Musikraft for instance. You can save if you finish it yourself...

I'm about doing a similar, but more heretic, experiment.
A Squier CV Duo-Sonic neck (24'' scale) on a Squier CV Thinline Tele body.
The Duo neck was said to be a conversion neck, but if I want to use the current holes in the thinline body, measurements are out of normal... at least not the same as in my Sq CV Duo-Sonic from 12th fret to saddles.
Initial assembly and measurements indicate that something is wrong but I'll report back when I have time to fully assemble and intonate, since I'm almost a complete ignorant of what the distances should actually be

Hi Fernando. Thanks for the input!

Yep, #3 seems to be the case, though I couldn't find a certain answer anywhere.

A conversion neck isn't TOO important, I just figured I'd do it if I could easily swap the Thinline neck onto the Custom II.

I think I'll just get a basic Squier Rosewood neck 25.5" and put that on the Custom II. I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work.

Admittedly, it's mostly because the stock maple necks on the Custom II are uuuuuuggggllllyyy. But I think my new play should be ok.

Let me know how yours turns out... I'm clueless about the measurements as well, so I'll be interested to know how yours goes.

Thanks!

then maybe the CV custom tele would be the one for you, it should be of a better quality/fret work than the other sq. necks...

I am interested in short scale, that's why I'm trying

Hmm... good point. There are a few on eBay... So you think a CV neck would fit the Custom II? It's only 21 frets, while I think the Custom II is 22. Do you know what size tuning holes are in the CV neck and if it's "C"-shaped?

Thanks!

It's C shaped.
It uses vintage Kluson type tuners
AFAIK 22 frets necks have the fingerboard extended but the neck is the same
But not 100% sure a CV neck will fit a Custom II, it should... maybe someone knows

Thanks again for the info!

I spoke with a gentleman on eBay who was selling a CV Custom neck with a custom bone nut that he installed in the damn thing. Pretty nice. I might put some Gotoh/Kluson vintage-style tuners in there... we'll see how the originals work.

So that's the start of my mutant P-90s Tele!

I have replaced a 25.5" scale neck on an Xavier Telemaster XV JT90 with the Vintage Modified Tele Thinline neck. It works just fine. I put longer saddle screws on to get the saddles slightly closer to the pickup to get the intonation right. It is a conversion neck, as far as I can tell.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

I wonder if it works with your Telemaster because the neck pickup doesn't come into play, as it doesn't look like you have one. But perhaps that's not a factor... don't know.

Well, regardless, I'm going to try out this neck CV Custom neck I got... yeah, it's 25.5" with a C-Shaped neck, but oh well... it will be a different experience.

I'm excited about my project. Not sure when I'll get to commence, but I'll try to remember to post my findings!

Thanks!

Good to know! thank you

Can you point me to the longer intonation screws please?
I'd need even longer ones since I'm trying with a 24'' neck

I went to a specialized hardware store with the short ones and asked for longer ones. They were only .25" longer, but it was enough.
