Ignatius June 15th, 2009, 01:20 PM IT consultant for a federal government contractor. I work out of my house, been doing this gig for six years so far. It's a pretty nice arrangement, but I'd rather be making my living as a pro musician if I had a choice. I look at my job as a way to pay the bills and I'm fortunate that I work in an industry that pays well, but I'm very different from a lot of my co-workers who are very career oriented. I have a different perspective than them. I suppose that for some of them they love it, just as I'd love it if I could make a living as a musician. I envy anyone who has a job they love. With me it's more a matter of not hating it. jjkrause84 June 15th, 2009, 01:32 PM PhD student, soon to be academic historian (I have one year left in my PhD). P Thought June 17th, 2009, 01:18 PM I'm a English teacher, and don't say I ain't. It's summer now, and I can do anything I want, within the limits of teacher's pay. Fortunately, what I want most is to stand on my porch playing my several guitars. Jerolin, I'm also an escape artist, when it comes to occupations. I've escaped from many occupations: lumberyard clerk, glider and towplane pilot, cutlery salesman, motorcycle salesman, advertising salesman for several newspapers, "shopper" publisher, and special education teacher. You should escape from yours, by any means necessary, and burn the whole industry behind you if you can. Even in Texarkana, the next thing will come along. People complain about teacher's pay, but it's the best money I ever made, and the work's rewarding too, most of the time. I hope to stick with my present occupation until I qualify for retirement, at which time I'll probably be too old to work, having started teaching when I was 40.
