The Buzz

Last week my wife was playing the tele and we noticed a buzz in the strings as she played. This was new so I was a bit concerned. The weather has warmed and become more humid. During Winter, we run several small humidifiers and the house has a RH of 45% or so...which is where we like it as we also have several acoustics and never keep any of them in the case.

I soon figured out that the buzz was coming off the G string at the nut. I checked the string height at the 3rd fret and it was laying flat at the first fret. Same with the E and A, but no apparent buzz on those last two strings.

I knew this probably meant that only a new nut would fix this...but what th hell,,,I should do one last check. I grabbed the ole Schubb capo and placed it at the first fret and with my right hand pressed the last fret. The string laid flat against all my frets! I did the same on the high E and the same story.

I went to the Fender website and looked up the Tele setup guide and adjusted my truss rod. Now she has a bit of neck relief and plays great with no buzz and I saved myself a trip to Nashville and the cost of a new nut and setup!

I wish that would work for me, I've got a TMNF-FAT neck that won't relieve itself when i slack the truss rod.
