New Worship Space

Hey, just had to post this here: Our church just dedicated our new worship space this morning. I am so blessed to be in the Praise band and get to play in this new place! No more having to break down all the equipment from the sanctuary before "Big Church" and we have adequate monitors and space on stage for everyone. The acoustics are better, since this space had this kind of presentation as part of the design.

The new space was a grocery store that went out of business about 5 years ago. Our church bought the whole shopping center, as it backs up to existing church land. I found out that there were 2 previous opportunities for our church to acquire the land in the past 60 years and we missed both. So now we have the land + parking lot + building + other tenants to defray the cost of purchase. It worked out alright and at the right time.

We have a really neat auditorium + children's area at the moment and will be adding classrooms and other spaces later. (BTW, grocery stores are huge compared to churches) Because we have the big refrigerated rooms already built on the back of the building, we also have a food pantry ministry that is moving into the area back there. They will use the auditorium for their services, and there is a new hispanic church that is going to meet in the space as well. Hopefully we will find other ministries that need space and we can make a place for them.

If you are ever in the Birmingham area, come visit: We are Alabaster First United Methodist.

Tele content: I am playing the Guitar Mill Mario Martin sig Tele from the TDPRI 2010 Giveaway through a Twin Reverb, with an OCD distortion pedal, a Crybaby Wah and a Behringer Vintage Delay pedal. LOVE the Mario Martin Tele!

Very cool! I used to go to a church in Denver that was a converted LiquorMart!

Enjoy the new space.

the new space sounds awesome, my church was going to build a youth center on the field right next to our church which we own, just could never get the right people to work on it to get a building plan made.

At the time we had the funds, but a homeschool Christian group was looking to moving towards a more pubic school approach. Since we didn't have a big enough youth group (only about 10 kids) to really need a youth building my church purchased a recently closed middle school (for like $75k) which sits kiddy corner to the church which the group can now use, and now the school has a group of about 50 kids attending regularly from around the county.

My church's youth group has the ability to use the gym and other recreational equipment from the school so in a sense we did get a building the youth group can use and enjoy.

Have fun in your new space.
