It was not the guitar for me, but the build quality was unbelievable considering the price point. Probably the best guitar I have owned from that point of view. gitold July 1st, 2011, 07:40 PM I have 7 Gibson's, 6 Fenders, 1 PRS, a Ricky, and 5 or 6 other very nice guitars and this little sob hangs in with the best of them. I've always loved Schecters build quality but was put off by their Demon, Tempest names, and their whole metal persona. Then I saw this a month ago and bought it after playing it for 5 minutes. What a great guitar. I'm a Big Schecter fan now. Solo Vintage mcknigs December 2nd, 2011, 03:07 PM My first Tele was a '96 Schecter California Custom with Duncan Quarter Pounders. I've discussed it elsewhere on TDPRI. Here's the only pic I have handy that shows it: http://www.scottmcknight.com/gfcs/scottmain.jpg IraqVet05 December 20th, 2011, 07:44 PM I have a Schecter Ultra Cure (Robert Smith - The Cure model) I picked up a few years ago when Musicians Friend in Kansas City had a clearance store. The guitar had a broken pot but I replaced it and have enjoyed the guitar since....really nice guitar but a bit on the heavy side. I gotta say, I relate to being put off by the perception of these being shredder guitars. But yours has really caught my eye as well. The Bigsby, the FilterTron pups, the classic look...This has given me a new perspective. gtrman56 January 16th, 2012, 09:25 PM I own a Schecter Solo 6 Classic. Came stock with SD '59 and Custom Custom pups, Tonepros locking bridge/tailpiece, and locking tuners. A local store was rotating stock, and I got it, brand new, for $500 with a nice Levy's gigbag! It normally sold for $849 online. Has pretty much all the features of a Les Paul Custom, except the price (hehe). tdu January 19th, 2012, 07:46 PM I have the same Vintage Solo posted above. Outstanding guitar. Looks beautiful, and will do anything. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5047/5236705524_e0a7a1e700.jpg Hallski January 22nd, 2012, 06:50 PM My first Schecter was a 006 Deluxe, and even though it was a sub $300 guitar, it played great. So, when the time came to upgrade a few years later, this beauty caught my eye... Here's my Stargazer. Picked this up about 4 years ago, and swapped out the Duncan Designed's for these Q-Tuner's. They're hand wound neodymium pick ups handwound in the Netherlands. When I was in the market for a Les Paul style guitar, I ALMOST went with something from the Schecter Solo collection. But, since I had one, I wanted to get something a bit different, and I went with a Hagstrom Super Swede. But, glad to hear you dig the Vintage Solo, because I would like to pick one up one of these days! Vostre Roy January 25th, 2012, 01:23 PM Here's my Stargazer. Picked this up about 4 years ago, and swapped out the Duncan Designed's for these Q-Tuner's. Damn man, I want some Q-Tuners too... I got a crazy deal on my Solo Vintage because it's marked a a Blem. But you'd need a microscope to see the blew. Very good quality control on these. The other guitar player in my band has an Ultra III, which is a beast. http://www.pulseonline.com/Schecter/bigUltra3VWR.jpg A million tone combinations, and as light as a feather. phoenixash January 25th, 2012, 04:06 PM My Schecter neck on a Double Eagle body pickups are unknown but sound great, A recent purchase purely bought on the feel of the neck and what a neck it is love it. LGOberean January 26th, 2012, 01:30 PM There are some pretty guitars here. And I didn't know that Schecter made Tele copies. But the one that really grabs me for some reason is the Solo Vintage model gitold and tdu have posted about. And I just checked, and in addition to the cherry red color it's available in black or 2-tone sunburst, as in the pic below. http://www.schecterguitars.com/Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd?imgid=b470f34c82c54 39f80fdb0b15fafbf93&type=rbi Hallski February 6th, 2012, 03:30 PM Damn man, I want some Q-Tuners too... I forget how clean they are until I play my Schecter after playing my others. Thats best way I can describe, just CLEAN, which is awesome because you can actually hear what your guitar sounds like, if that makes sense! I am looking to mod a Peavey Generation EXP Triple Single, and I keep checking back as well, because they have single coils that I am SURE are amazing as well. The 006 body was great, and I still have my 006 Deluxe that I want to put some work into. mcknigs February 6th, 2012, 07:06 PM There are some pretty guitars here. And I didn't know that Schecter made Tele copies. That's interesting, given that Schecter started out making replacement parts for Fenders, then went to making custom shop Fender copies. The first I remember being aware of their guitars is when Pete Townsend started playing Schecter Teles with humbuckers in them. I always thought those were nice looking guitars. http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/images/equipment/guitar/197909_nyc_schecter.jpg Hallski February 6th, 2012, 08:09 PM That's interesting, given that Schecter started out making replacement parts for Fenders, then went to making custom shop Fender copies. I have not been a lifelong devotee of the Telecaster. I played acoustic for 40 years without ever owning an electric of any kind. Bought my first Tele style four years ago this July. Sorry to be an ignorant latecomer to the Schecter party, but I just didn't know that Schecter made copies or that they started out making replacement parts and such. Sorry, didn't mean for my post to come off as giving you a hard time. I just found it interesting. One's perspective on a guitar company can depend so much on when they first became aware. I could see where people who only recently became aware of the company would think they only made pointy heavy metal guitars, since that describes most of the Schecters I see these days on Musician's Friend catalogs. Another bit of trivia is that (I'm pretty sure I have this right) the wife of the guy who currently runs Schecter is the woman who created Daisy Rock Guitars. http://www.daisyrock.com/ -Scott LGOberean February 13th, 2012, 09:56 PM Sorry, didn't mean for my post to come off as giving you a hard time. Like I said in my previous post about what I'm learning here..."It's good to know." smallstoner February 23rd, 2012, 05:32 PM I have a Stagazer in the "Crimson Ghost" finish like Hallski's. It's the best playing guitar I've ever owned. I swear I'm like 15% better when I play this thing. I'm still evaluating the "Duncan Designed" pickups; they're OK but I'll probably spring for better ones eventually. BTW, I read an interview in which Mark Knopfler was raving about his Schecter Strats. LGOberean February 27th, 2012, 05:23 PM Can you elaborate some on your assessment thus far of those Duncan Designed pups? jmiles February 27th, 2012, 05:59 PM I've played some nice Schecters,,, but,,,, the worst Tele I've ever had was a Schecter single-bound body like Pete's. Had a great old Fender Maple neck on it, which is now on The Billy Goat. That body is upstairs in a pile of junk. Totally dead, lifeless-sounding. I tried everything to make that guitar sing. Waste of time! smallstoner February 28th, 2012, 12:12 AM Can you elaborate some on your assessment thus far of those Duncan Designed pups? I believe they're 001s, which are essentially supposed to be vintage PAF-types, but I have little frame of reference (I have a lot more experience with single coils), so I can't speak to how PAF-like they are. TO me, they sound a little... plinky(?) and weak. Not wound hot enough to make good use of the split coil tones. I'm thinking about an unevenly wound set for better split tones, hotter than vintage but nowhere near metal territory. Or maybe something like those P90/HBs GFS does. mcknigs February 28th, 2012, 11:05 AM I believe they're 001s, which are essentially supposed to be vintage PAF-types, but I have little frame of reference (I have a lot more experience with single coils), so I can't speak to how PAF-like they are.
