I just bought a "Bowen Handle" off a guy on the Steel Guitar Forum for a great price. These are a vibrato tailpiece for any stud tailpiece guitar such as a Les Paul, 335, SG, etc.

They're so dang easy to install it's pathetic! I just took the old strings off, slid out the old stud tailpiece and slid in the Bowen handle and strung 'er up. Les than 10 minutes total and the thing works great and stays in tune. I lubricated the nut and bridge slots with a #2 graphite pencil.

Stewart/McDonald sells another one (can't remember the brand) which works pretty much the same way. This is a great item as if you want to go back to the regular stud you just slide out the Bowen and slide the stud tailpiece right back in the slot(s)....Any one ever try one of these? Here's a couple of shots...........JH in Va.

I bought mine for $48 (including shipping) on the SGF. The unit that Stewart/McDonald sells goes for around $135 or so though and it's basically the same. I also have one of the S/M ones but I think the Bowen's a little more "heavy duty".........JH in Va.

Can you still close the case, with the Bowen on?

I've been thinking about getting one for awhile now. I think it could be good on my Epi Wilshire. And they're only $59, from Freedom Guitar.

I have the StewMac version, the "Les Trem," on another guitar. A very nice, very smoooooooth vibrato. They were putting them on Reverend guitars, for a little while.
