Glendale = instant Redd !!!

Had the full Glendale enchilada installed in my AVRI52 the other day ( CRS plate, old school brass saddles, CRS ferrules, neck plate ) and I was playing at practice last night : instant Redd tone ! I realized a big part of his sound, besides his fingers obviously, and Owen's pups, is the hardware. My bridge pup is a SD Antiquity. I can only imagine how close it would be if I had a Duff Plankster...
Just wanted to share my 'haHa !" moment with my fellow Tele friends.

Ive built a few guitars with glendale bridge/saddles and OC Duff planksters, and I didn't get Redds tone. :(

I'm just sayin' that since I upgraded my AVRI 52 along with my SD Antiquity bridge pup, I'm getting some of that Redd mojo ( boo, forsaken term  ) I'm lovin' it.

Thanks, BBB. Cynics never cease to amaze me. It's ok, all I gotta do is plug in my AVRI into my Twin Reverb and all that negativity is looooong gone...

If you are digging the tone from that SD Antiquity, OC Duffs Plankster will blow you away! I highly recommed it. Also, his Richard Young set is phenominal.

Duff built me a set for a replacement tele I built for RY of the Ky Headhunters. He used the exact materials used in Richards original 52. Best set of tele pickups I have ever heard.

No -- I meant that some folks seemed offended by your original post (not that you were offended.) I thought your post was exactly why this forum exists, and I appreciated the review of your new hardware. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

BTW, how do you think the Antiquity compares to the SD Broadcaster -- a little brighter, I'd imagine...

He's (Duff) about to release a Redd Volkaert Signature set. That should nail it.

Gotcha.
I have no experience with the SD Broadcaster, I have read numerous praises for it over here. I have no doubt it is a great pickup. I am in love with my Antiquity, though. Definitely a keeper.

He already has, for a few years now. If you contact Duff, he wil send you a set right out.

I've bragged on Owen's pups a few times on this forum. He wired up some vintage ones for me that had similar specs to the Lollar vintage 52 sets that sound so rich and sweet. I really have become a fan of buying cheaper guitar and putting high quality pups into them. Much more bang for th buck IMO.

I am under the impression that Redd uses Owen's Plankster and Big Boy pups exclusively as well as the intone Twang saddle set, CRS ferrules and CRS plate from Glendale. I'm loving my hardware. Took my AVRI52 from good to amazing. Well worth the $200,IMHO. Anybody who wants to rain on that parade is just outta luck...:lol::lol:

Yeah, I think the set is regular Planksters but labeled with Redd's signature.

Congratulations Redd!

Grammy Award Winning recording artist Redd Volkaert is a big fan of O.C. Duff Pickups and uses them in his main Tele's. A signature set of his favorite O.C. Duff Pickups will be coming soon.

Yeah, Owen isn't real good at updating his site. haha

I think originally, Owen modified his plankster a little for Redds needs, but has since changed it over to Redds specs. Ive installed two sets of Redds specs planksters in my guitars, and they are great pickups

Off topic a bit, but of all the instructional CD's I've seen or bought by guitar stars, Redd's Tele Twang is hands-down the most informative and useful.

Waylonfan I dont think you are givin yourself enough credit here as a couple of people have said they tried it and didnt get that sound. Clearly the missing piece to this puzzle is YOU. Your hands are what is making that awesome tone along with the new bridge great job and thanks for postin...

Maybe.
It's especially apparent on the low notes, on the E and A strings. Just clean, spanky and rich Tele tone a la Redd. I'm a happy man.
