Gibson Junior-type bridges

hello-

I made my way into the Les Paul world by buying an Epi and trying for a few months and then diving into a Gibson.

I plan to do the same with the Junior style.

But i have a question on bridges.

In this photo I have 4 types I have seen amongst Epi, Agile, Douglas...

** Which of these are most realistic as for what I'd get with a Gibson Jr. or Gibson Junior double cut? ***

The most common one is probably the one on the Epiphone in your photo above. If you want to upgrade, I would suggest you look at the Gotoh 510 wraparound bridge. It will allow for individual intonation adjustment and is much superior to the Badass-style in terms of construction and performance, in my opinion.

I'd say the one in the upper left. The one on the bottom left might come with it if you got a reissue that has some historic specifications. The one with the tune-o-matic saddles is usually called a bad ass bridge and the one on the Douglas is like the kind that you see on a lot of Paul Reed Smith guitars.

Thanks - - so that smaller bolt going into the main big screw (whats called?!)
on each side is common and has a good purpose ? I mean it is an advancment of some sort?
Thanks

The smaller screw on each side allow for some intonation adjustment by moving the bridge slightly forwards or backwards.

These Guys are all over it. Most standard EPI and gibby LPJRS will come with the top left. My RI had a vintage correct non-compensated wrap around that was just a smooth slanted bar. Boy did I fight intonation! I just invested in a Schoeder bridge that I love! The intonation is perfect the bridge added a bit more mass and I love the resonance that added as well as the adjustable brass saddles added a new twist on a sound that I already loved. good luck in your search for a bridge that suits you best!

Thanks guys

so BajaDerek- the 2nd and 4th pictures, those are the Schoeder ? It looks quite substantial !.
(the other ones look like some sort of mean joke to a guitar player, just wrap the string around a chunk of metal ! ? )

Alan> I'm not sure if the picture show to you guys the way they show to me! The pics labeled 20/01/2011 are the Schroeder. The ones labeled 09/01/2011 are the orignal Vintage NC Wrap. and yes... in the fifties that was the limit of technology! although the Jr was marketed as a budget guitar so that may have had something to do with it.

Yes i think i read it right - - thanks for the idea.

Next i'm on to terrorize the guys over at Pickups about P-90's...

(The entry level Epiphone I'd start with will have a humbucker, but I will be re-fitting for P-90 to get the full experience)

in relation to p90s I've been doing a bit of research myself and have heard nothing but good things about lollars.
Little bit out of my own price range though

indeed what I have been following is the GFS Mean 90. Likely my first buy.
Then if i like the character I will look for something more.
However,
on this very board there have been a couple guys who like the Mean 90 all its own even in comparison to expensive or vintage P90. We shall see.
I am actually picking up an Epiphone LP Junior tonight. I am on the warpath

Looks like of the 4 in the photo, the only one that is "realistic" or "traditional" is the one in the lower left corner. Wraparound bridges never came with saddles (as in the other photos).

This was a fortunate thread for me. I like the simplicity of the LP Junior and have kind of wanted one. This morning I hit a couple of yard sales and found this one for $10. It is missing strings and bridge but otherwise is clean and intact, with only a small finish chip on the headstock corner and one on the lower horn, but the finish is nice. Pots and pickup look clean and functional, so I rolled the dice and ordered an original style bridge from Guitar Fetish ($20 shipped). Hopefully that and a set of strings from my stash and I'll have a $35 Junior.

Just had to share.

I can NEVER find anything at yard sales. Not even beaters, Junkers, or parts. I'm jealous.

The Epiphone at top w/ the kinda/sorta compensated stud bridge is what Townshend used for 4 years on his SG Specials. He suffered through it - so can you !

I have one on a vintage '69 SG Special and it's challenging but it sustains forever (even though the guitar weighs about 6 lbs even) and it is very loud acoustically.

Mine works almost flawlessly w/ heavy strings on it (12 - 54 w/ a plain 20 G string) and every time I go to lighter strings I wonder why I tried again.

Turns out Townshend would string his 12-56 so he figured it out 40 yrs ago...

Schoeder bridge - where did you get it? i am looking to replace the bridge on a Peavey T15 and thought one of these types would work.
