I painted a tele using watco and pigment(mixol)'
I don't like the results and don't want to sand back to the wood
Can I just scuff it with 220(finer?) and respray?
Also if I wanted to use a primer what would I use, brand etc.
Thanks

You could strip it with lacquer thinner or acetone so you didn't have to sand. But if you are wanting to put more lacquer over top, you can just clean it real good with naptha and shoot some more lacquer.

Primer wise, you are going to have a hard time find a nitro primer without buying some expensive stuff like Reranch. Most guys use automotive acrylic lacquer primer like duplicolor. If you do go this route, I would strip back to the bare wood. I wouldn't want to put a non nitro primer ontop or nitro.

Thanks Colt, maybe I'll sand it back and try duolicolor primer if I can find a place that sells it.
What grit do you sand the primer with before you spray the color ?

piece of ash

I dont sand the primer unless I get runs. Yes, you can put nitro over duplicolor.
