I have a 1981 ts-9
I'm itching to bust it open and mod it. What do you think? Mod, leave it alone, sell it and buy a reissue to tinker on?

Sell it. IMHO they are overvalued. I had an old one, sold it, bought a TS-5 potato bug off CL for $10 and got it sounding better than the old TS-9.

No way! Go buy a used ts-9 for $50 and mod that! (But no reason not to peek inside the "vintage" one -- just don't bust anything.

What mods did you make to the ts-5?

808 mod, socket for op-amp to try several (forget what one is in it), replaced the signal path caps with WIMA's.
Been a while since I did it so maybe some other stuff. There's a web page on the technology of the TS which I read and followed.
The guts of the TS-5 are the same as the TS-9, just in a plastic housing. I figured I'd try stuff out on the super cheapie in case I wrecked it. Turned out so well that I just use it.
If you want to mess around, pick up a TS-5, they're dirt cheap.

Sell it or hold it. The cash value is undeniable.
Use the proceeds to buy a kit and just build in any mod you want.
