"Nancy" style wiringHomeGrown Twang December 24th, 2004, 02:02 PM I have built a 53 replica and have it wired with tone and volume controls for all 3 position. How would a 53 be wired and does it make a big difference? Mark Davis December 24th, 2004, 02:10 PM A stock 53 Tele would have the #1 switch position all the way up towards neck would be the neck pickup with no tone control going thru a cap for a fixed bassy sound to simulate a bass guitar. #2 middle position would be the neck pickup with tone control and #3 would be the bridge with tone control. HomeGrown Twang December 24th, 2004, 04:09 PM I thought that 5o's teles had no tone on the bridge position? Mark Davis December 24th, 2004, 04:18 PM Esquires have no tone control on the all the way back bridge switch but Teles did. moonshiner December 25th, 2004, 04:27 PM Early Nocasters and Broadcasters had 2 volume pots with a blend circuit until sometime in 52.. then they went with volume/tone... Early pickup selection: Bridge/blend neck Bridge/Neck Neck with Cap Later: Bridge with tone Bridge/Neck with tone Neck with cap and no tone Modern: Bridge with tone Bridge/Neck with tone Neck with tone (no cap) Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... JCollins December 25th, 2004, 06:31 PM From 50 - 52, the guitars featured: neck pickup alone, with cap (preset bassy tone), neck pickup alone, with no tone control, bridge pickup with neck pickup blended in by the second control. From 53 - 67, the guitars featured: neck pickup alone, with cap (preset bassy tone), neck pickup alone, with a tone control, bridge pickup alone, with a tone control. These guitars did not feature neck+bridge in parallel. (You could balance the switch in an inbetween position, but both pickups in parallel was not one of the three positions.) After 67, the Telecaster featured the modern pickup selection: neck, neck+bridge, and bridge, with all three selections affected by the tone control. HomeGrown Twang December 26th, 2004, 10:08 AM I have never played a Tele older than 69-But have read that a Tele wired say as a 53 is a much different animal.I am looking for opinions and favorite wiring schemes. It is so easy to change wiring why not experiment?-Kevin Mark Davis December 26th, 2004, 02:07 PM If you wire it up like a 53 1 of the positions the preset bassy sound isnt gonna get much use. I just use the modern wiring so you have neck neck/ bridge and bridge all with tone. moonshiner December 26th, 2004, 06:37 PM Thanks for correcting me... Bill Ashton December 27th, 2004, 11:22 PM but my son says about the Esquire wiring I did on my MIJ 50's RI Tele...the bassy/highs-rolled-off position is perfect for when he is playing rhythm with his High School stage band. There was an issue of Vintage Guitar in which Seymour Duncan had a whole bunch of Telecaster and Esquire wiring schemes..our old friend Timbo (Abba-Abba Skull Island!) send a copy to me years ago, but the thermal fax paper I got it on has just about faded out! Mark Davis December 27th, 2004, 11:53 PM The preset bassy sound is also really good with a fuzz box. Makes it sound extra heavy and thick. |
