NFarrell57 February 24th, 2011, 07:32 PM I agree Butterscotch Blonde is the only way to go
Telecaster52SE February 24th, 2011, 10:50 PM I was going to replace the bridge pickup in this Tele, but then ran it through my Barber Direct Drive into my Marshall Stack and immediately changed my mind. These pickups are perfect for Hard Rock'n'Roll, hotter than normal MIM, but not too hot. They still are very articulate even with medium overdrive. If you play Classic Country or Chickin' Pickin', you may want to load a Seymour Duncan Five-Two (52) for Tele pickup in it or fork out the $$$ for a CS '52 reissue. I really think this limited special run guitar was made for gigging rockers. I love the reversed control plate by the way, because I mess with my volume all the time to clean up or dirty up the pickups. The other way the switch is always in the way of the volume knob.
Anyway here is my Fender FSR Butterscotch BG 2010. I think I got lucky and picked it off the wall at my GC, right after it was put out. There wasn't a mark or finger print on it.......except for my grubby finger prints rushing it the counter.

I just purchased the exact same guitar a few days ago. Lovin it! No need to post pics. It is still stock. One curious thing about mine is the pickup cavities seem to come out past the ashtray just a hair. No big deal but is this normal or did I get a funky one?
Telecaster52SE February 28th, 2011, 09:19 AM Recently at my local GC I have played all four (4) current '52 or '51 type Butterscotch/Blonde Fender Teles and I have rated the pickups below. I finally got to play a friend's Fender 60th Anniversary '51 Telecaster Blonde Ash yesterday, when he was trying out Fender Tweed Blues amps. This was the last one for me to try out.
1.Fender FSR Telecaster Butterscotch BG Special Edition - Hottest pickups, Rocker guitar, plus it has a nice 9.5" radius neck.
2.Fender MIM Telecaster Natural Ash - Medium-Hot pickups but not as hot as FSR Butterscotch Telecaster.
3.Fender American CS Hot Rod Telecaster Butterscotch BG - Hotter than normal American Noiseless Tele pickups but not as hot as FSR or MIM. Definitely a good Classic Rock or Blues/Rock guitar. Mini-humbucker was too mushy IMO. These guitars would be excellent with a full-sized SD '59 Pearly Gates on the neck.
4.Fender American CS Vintage '52 Reissue BS Telecaster - These pickups are brighter, best for Modern Country, Classic Country, Chickin' Pickin' etc...Plus you better like the 7.5" radius neck or get something else.
5.Fender American 60th Anniversary '51 Telecaster Blonde Ash - The American Vintage Noiseless pickups on these are very bright and clear pickups. Very articulate but sweet tone, especially through a Fender Tweed Blues series amp. Excellent for Blues (through the right amp), Modern Country, Vintage Country or Chickin' Pickin'.
If you play Hard Rock, buy a FSR Butterscotch BG Special Edition MIM or Fender American CS Hot Rod Butterscotch BG, IMO.
Telecaster52SE February 28th, 2011, 09:56 AM I just purchased the exact same guitar a few days ago. Lovin it! No need to post pics. It is still stock. One curious thing about mine is the pickup cavities seem to come out past the ashtray just a hair. No big deal but is this normal or did I get a funky one?
On mine the pickup route comes outside the ashtray bridge just a hair on the top side, but not on the bottom side at all.
Telecaster52SE February 28th, 2011, 10:11 AM Whenever I think of a Fender '52 Butterscotch Telecaster, I immediately think of Billy Squier rocking all out with his, scarlet red parachute pants and all, in the early 1980's.
finntele1000 March 1st, 2011, 01:53 AM An here's mine.
Telecaster52SE March 2nd, 2011, 10:30 PM Here is the new home for my FSR Butterscotch BG Tele. Had to buy the Fender Gray Black Vintage Tweed Case with the black poodle plush interior. A Butterscotch Tele in the Gray Black Vintage Tweed Case is my favorite Fender Guitar/Case combination.
I guess a Trans Red Strat or Tele would look good in this case too.
If you ever want one of these cases with the Big Fender Amp logo on the top, I would buy one now. I think Fender is changing to a small brass plate Fender logo to the left of the leather handle (not as kul). Music 123 is already selling them with the small brass plate logo.
Brandon mac March 3rd, 2011, 05:30 PM mine should be here in a couple days!!! i cant wait!!!!
FrankMc March 3rd, 2011, 05:40 PM A very proud and happy member of this club, here's mine!

No it's not a funky one. My bridge pickup route extends a bit out from under the plate, but so did the route on my 78 Tele. I don't think it's at all uncommon.
leftovermatt March 7th, 2011, 01:27 PM I've had mine for a few months now, it really is a great guitar, good quality. Swapped out the pickups for CS texas specials a few days ago and went up to 10s, now it sounds amazing.
MaskedRider March 7th, 2011, 05:29 PM Where can I get one?
GuitarObsession March 8th, 2011, 11:11 AM Got this last week, and I love it! I can't believe these are the same price as a standard MIM. I got mine with the $100 off coupon as well, so it was really a no brainer...but the quality is what continues to amaze me.
I know you all know what they look like, but I still had to post some pics!
Glad to be a member of the club!

mpfitz85 March 8th, 2011, 05:43 PM I didn't know we had a club!
MaskedRider March 9th, 2011, 05:04 PM So,nobody's gonna tell me where I can get one? None of the GC's near me have one.
GuitarObsession March 9th, 2011, 06:54 PM They are only available at GC. They might be gone now. Ask them to check other locations. It's possible they could ship one to you from another store. Good luck!
MaskedRider March 10th, 2011, 12:18 AM They are only available at GC. They might be gone now. Ask them to check other locations. It's possible they could ship one to you from another store. Good luck!
OK thanks!
MaskedRider March 10th, 2011, 02:48 PM I tried to search GC's database and couldn't find one so I called Guitar Center and the told me that I have to call each store till I find one. Is that really the only way?
GuitarObsession March 10th, 2011, 10:53 PM They aren't listed on the GC website at all.
MusiciansFriend has a similar FSR tele on their site. The bridge is different...maybe the pickups too. That might be your best option. It sounds like the GC stock is possibly sold out by now. Don't know for sure.

Francis Kok March 19th, 2011, 01:11 AM And...I am also a proud owner of a MIM fsr butterscotch blond Tele all the way here in Malaysia. I ordered the Joe Barden compensated bridge and saddles and the Danny Gatton T-Style bridge pickup which arrived a week ago. I'll be fixing them soon. Unfortunately, none of the guitar stores here have ever heard of JB pickups and their vintage bridge and saddles. I have 2 american made Strats but this Tele is truly versatile. It's so easy on your fingers.
willrmc March 21st, 2011, 11:41 PM Here's my BSB. Got it in mid december at gc in Brooklyn. I literally unpacked it from the shipping box at the store, i had it reserved before they had even taken it out. LOVE this guitar!

To my knowledge these Fender FSR BSB Tele's are sold ONLY in the GC Stores and not online. They pretty much sell about as fast as they put them out. I just lucked out and walked into my GC a few hours after they put it out on the wall. I snatched it, played it only a few minutes and walked to the counter to pay for it with my 15% discount coupon. One GC guitar salesman told me he didn't even know they had that guitar. They also make a silver-burst version of this FSR Tele, which I have seen some of those still in the stores. I like the Butterscotch Blackguard better though.
FrankMc May 16th, 2011, 09:30 AM Check the Nashville Guitar Center, saw a two piece BSB FSR in there last Wednesday, may still be there.
Twang Chung May 25th, 2011, 05:48 AM I actually bought mine at a mom and pop store here in Santa Barbara. Either it was brought in from a Fender rep or it was a trade-in. Either way I got a great deal on mine with my teacher discount. I actually really like the sound of the stock pickups. I can get a pretty good twang out of them.
PinewoodRo May 25th, 2011, 06:04 AM Here's mine, its a mid-80's squire that I've been 'experimenting' with. Trying out some of the stuff that I've seen done on this site
I removed the tone control and tried to position the Vol pot where it falls most naturally to my hand. I think it still needs to move back a little. When I've got it right I might get some plates made up. It has a 1/4" maple top and one of the nicest necks I've played, I've contoured the body and let my missus paint flowers on it in exchange for leaving woodshavings and bits of hardware around the house for weeks
FSRTeleBSB May 25th, 2011, 09:13 PM Just got one today from the GC in Fountain Valley, CA. I absolutely love it. Amazing grain on it. Great tone, great neck (I love the gloss). I also love the old logo and "Telecaster" in quotes. Sunds incredible. Got it 15% off with the Memorial Day coupon. They are still available to a degree for those who want them. Mine is a 2011 (MX110....)
FrankMc May 26th, 2011, 12:09 AM I think the grain patterns on these guitars are exceptional for the price, whether they are two piece or three piece body.
whitham May 27th, 2011, 12:14 PM To my knowledge these Fender FSR BSB Tele's are sold ONLY in the GC Stores and not online.
I just ordered one online from GC yesterday, though they didn't have a photo or any info.

The customer service guy couldn't find any details either. I'm pretty excited about it though. It will be my first tele. Planning on swapping the pups for '51 Nocasters, throwing on a 4-way switch, adding compensated brass saddles and shielding the guard and control plate. I'm guessing the pots, wiring, tuners, etc are good enough for now?
Beachbum June 7th, 2011, 10:34 PM Just picked mine up 2 days ago. I was lucky. The GC nearest my home had one and there were 2 more at a GC further down the road. I checked out all three and this was the last one I looked at and happened to be the one that was still sealed in the box. Just finished filing the nut slots - adjusting the neck - and setting the string height and intonation last night. I'm lovin this guitar. I'm gonna put a neck humbucker on this one eventually but the ceramics in it now are really nice.

wragen22 June 13th, 2011, 01:08 PM Just got one myself! Absolutely loving this thing. I do want to change the neck pu and add a low-wind humbucker. Anyone know what pots are in here? Are they 250 or 500K?
mpfitz85 August 2nd, 2011, 02:58 PM The mods I made to this thing really make it shine. I'd reccomend letting your imaginations run wild with pup swaps.
Broly August 2nd, 2011, 06:19 PM Heres mine with the following mods:
1. Fender OV bridge pup
2. Fender Twisted Tele neck pup
3. 52 RI Bakelite pickguard
4. Kluson Vintage tuners
5. Round 50s string tree
It sounds and plays great!

Broly,
Was changing the tuners difficult? I like the look of the vintage style Kluson.
mustachio November 25th, 2011, 12:48 PM So, since I got a ES-335, which is warm and smooth, I needed a something on the opposite end of the spectrum. I love Telecasters, that being said, I think a Tele is a Tele is a Tele....however, I do have my preferences.
I used to own a '52 Reissue but sold it toward a Les Paul five years ago. Some things I loved about the '52 Reissue were: Butterscotch Blonde, the "U" shaped neck, ash body sounds warmer to my ears, and the pickups. The things that were inconvenient Teles that were: the old school truss rod's access point was at the heel not the head (very dicey proposition for set ups), the vintage tuners are not practical for gigging musicians who break strings and need to restring on the fly, the 7.25" radius doesn't have the note sustain needed (not that you need a 12" or 10", but at 7.25" you need to work a little too hard: one caveat: great for rhythm playing), the uncompensated brass saddles, and of course the price.
All Tele's have a design flaw and that's the control plate setup. Not very ergonomic and frequent accidental switching of pickups. I've actually had two Telecasters and had my tech fabricate a switch plate to have a single volume knob where the control switches are standard, and then had a Les Paul "up/down" selector switch where the tone pot would normal be. I liked this modification (A) because no one has ever had this, and (B) the pickup I wanted on, stayed on. But, I did miss the tone pot to roll off the occasional high frequency. I had a treble bleed installed on the volume pot to clean it up at lower volumes but that became completely too shrill, especially on the bridge pickup.
All my preferences fulfilled and desire for a perfect (well, almost perfect) Telecaster were made available with the GuitarCenter's Fender Special Run (FSR) Butterscotch Blonde, Made in Mexico, Standard Telecaster. Not to be confused with the Musiciansfriend FSR Tele.
Here's what I loved (in comparison with the '52 Reissue) and some mods that HAD to be done: The finish, color weight, tone is near identical, and the price.
The feel of the neck, which is a modern "C", with a 9.5" radius is really comfortable. The difference is that the '52 has that slightly more rounded "U" shape, that I prefer, but I'd rather have that flatter fretboard radius for better playablity suited to my tastes and technique. But, let me stress the "C" or "U" is really a matter of millimeters and fretting hand fatigue will not be an issue 2 hours into a gig. The fretjob was level and no barbed ends. My tech had to reset some of the relief, but I changed to heavier gauge (.10s) strings and this is why the truss rod location at the headstock becomes important so as not to have to unscrew the neck at the heal to adjust relief. Adjusting the relief is common and should be performed for any new guitar though. The nut slots were perfectly spaced and the slot depths were perfect. Also, the neck has the same lacquer and tint as a '52. Bottom line: Incredible neck.
The control plate is reversed, which means the volume pot is the first knob, the tone pot is the second knob and the selector switch is toward the rear of the the plate. Two things need to be done to make reversed control plate completely perfect. (1) replace the barrel knob for the selector switch to a "Top Hat" knob. The reason is because the "Top Hat" jettisons a little higher than the tone pot and you can switch it a little easier. Also, barrel knobs tend to fall off, and (2) switch the volume and tone pot wiring to 50's style wiring. The benefit of this mod is that it connects the cap to the output lug of the volume pot instead of the input lug, therefore changing the characteristic of the sound as you roll down your volume pot. I think, and don't quote me, that the the current goes freely through the volume pot. Instead of having capacitance or resistance (input lug connection) before the current goes to the volume pot, the current is affected after volume pot (the output lug)...I think....but the bottom line is the volume tapers down to provided a more controllable clean rhythm sound, and when you open it up, it reminds me of TBX Boost, like in Clapton's strat. Here's more info on the subject:
http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazin...Mod_Guide.aspx
Also, be advised: When I went in there to change things around, the pots were CTS, not cheap crap. I don't know if SwitchCraft jacks or selector switches are in there, but since the pots were quality, I'll go ahead and assume things are top shelf all the way around.
Pickups: O.K., this is all potato/potahto subject matter and entire encyclopedias are written on the topic. And I play through two amps, a Dr. Z Maz Jr 18 No Reverb and a 1966 Supro Supreme.
Here's what I thought about the pickups: Good stock pickups, nothing special. Fender Hot Tele pickups, of the ceramic variety. O.K. for lead work, not terribly good for note definition with chording sevenths, suspended stuff. Fine for Fifths and Major 3rds. Minor chords seemed dissonant, if that makes any sense. But that could've been the intonation with the uncompensated saddles?
Solution: Set of Lollar '52-T Pickups. Night and Day. I don't particularly think that pickups need to be super hot and twang is not really pleasing to my ear ALL of the time. I know, I know...some of you Tele guys are crazy about it. "Time and Place" is all I'm saying. If you need to get "Hot" then get a clean boost, or adjust your amp settings. The Lollar '52 T's are lower wound, but they are balanced between the two. When some people say "balanced", I tend not to know exactly what that means, but I think I understand now. "Balanced" to me means that pickups respond in the same fashion between two in a set. So, if your picking attack reacts sensitively to the bridge pickup, the neck will react the same BUT it will sound like a neck pickup. Understand? It's more of a physical reaction the pickup has to actual string vibration. Very hard to describe, but you know it when you "feel" it. Sonically, the have a nice bell like tone and they sustain beautifully (impart to the neck radius too). When overdriven, they keep tight and are never shrill. Roll the volume back, especially with the 50's wiring, they clean up like there isn't a pedal or the amp is set clean. They always have a "spacial" sound and don't sound "sqeezed" or become microphonic at high volumes. Very impressive. Also, unlike the '52 Reissue, the pickups have a height adjustment screws to achieve PERFECT volume when switching between the two. Lollars rock and are worth every penny. I paid, $210 for the set.
Saddles: Despite what anyone thinks, the three brass saddles are warmer than the six string saddles. However, intonation is never as perfect with the brass "hammers" as it is with the individual saddles. The individual saddles are "livelier", especially the chrome ones. I just purchased the AllParts compensated saddles to correct the intonation. As far as the Wilkinson or Joe Barden saddles, I think it's a little opportunistic to sell such small parts for those prices. Pick and choose your battles. Save your money for boutique pickups.
Tuners: They are Ping/Fender standard tuners. I'm very finicky when it comes to tuners and their sensitivity (I replaced my Custom Shop 335 tuners to Grovers). But, these tuners are just as good as Schaller mini tuners (the German kind). No problems whatsoever with hard, long playing.
Aesthetics: I love the old school Fender decal on the headstock. The string tree is modern (Who cares if you have the disc or not? Personally, I think the design improvements made to Telecasters over the years were necessary and not all because of cost effectiveness. The disc wasn't functionally effective and may have applied not enough pressure, hence the modern string tree). Pickguard is beveled on the edges, not at all like the bakelight originals. Because of the pickup adjustment screws, the pickgaurd is fine as is. The ash wood grain slightly comes through the Butterscotch Blonde paint exactly as it does in the '52 Reissue. My ash body is also made of three pieces of ash. The '52 is one piece and that's why the call it "Premium". I don't think it makes a difference in sustain or energy transference because ash is heavy. I think if you have a SG or mahogany body, the one piece or multi-pieced bodies are more of an issue. Some disagree, but I guess you have to really play them to "feel" them. By the way the neck are one piece.
Now, that I've completely bored you to death, I just wanted to give an honest review and put it out there. I searched for weeks before I bought, or should I say more appropriately "kept", the right Telecaster. I had purchased the MusiciansFriend one and it sucked in comparison. "Noiseless" pickups were worse than the "Hot Tele's" and I didn't care for the 6 individual saddle and modern bridge. Aesthetically, the Fender logo wasn't the traditional Spaghetti logo and of course the control panel issues I discussed earlier.
I also sent back a Butterscotch Blonde American Deluxe with the S-1 switching. Not a fan of the S-1. Pickups were great, neck was wicked with a compound radius, but the GuitarCenter FSR was a fraction of the price and more "upgradable".
I had to purchase a deluxe tweed case with the red crushed velvet interior. Amazon. Used. $125.
Mexican craftsmanship is second to none. There is no difference between Mexican vs American as long as the all the hardware is quality and wood is within specs. Mexican workers just as hard as American workers (but some could disagree, American attitudes toward hard work are--how to put this?--less ethical in resolve).
So, in closing: $399 guitar (with coupon), $210 pickups, $150 work, $125 case = +/- $900. Compared to MF = $650 or a new Fender '52 Reissue or American Deluxe @ $1400 - $1600.
What do you think? Not bad for a new member's first post, eh? Cool Forum. Cheers!
Vladimir November 25th, 2011, 03:48 PM Here's mine, got it in spring. I believe it's a 2010 model since it's serial number starts with MX101. These guitars are not only available through GC, obviously since there aren't any overseas. I bought it from the official Fender dealer, 1 of 10 that made it to the country.

Murry January 11th, 2012, 10:25 AM Hi guys, here's mine. Added a Bakelite pickguard, vintage tuners and Fender OV pickups. Loving this guitar.
FrankMc January 11th, 2012, 10:26 AM Looks terrific.
shanghaitele January 15th, 2012, 03:25 AM Hey, good to know we have a club.
In September I have purchased a FSR 2011 BSB here in Shanghai, one of the few arrived in the country. A little more expensive than you pay in USA but still a good deal. According to the specs this guitar have Alnico III hot Pickups (i measured 10 Kohm at the bridge and 8 Kohm at the neck) that should be the same of the Highway one. Some of your post mention Ceramics pickups, why? are my specs wrong or there are two type of FSR BSB.
My guitar is also reverse control plate, 3 saddles.
I am very satisfied about this guitar.
Ciao
boris bubbanov January 15th, 2012, 02:43 PM I just wanna say a "reversed control plate" club is a great concept.
Esp. since FMIC has produced do many different FSRs, just calling certain models "FSR" doesn't adequate differentiate them from one another.
DannyAlexGeo January 18th, 2012, 08:09 AM Had mine since last October; LOVE it!
Though it is my first tele so I was bound to!
Shame how my camera flash drained that butterscotch colour a bit!

Anyone got any Advice on which decent pickups i might want to install?
I know he's a strat player but I've got a bit of a John Mayer style so anything that might push toward that would be perfect!
FrankMc January 18th, 2012, 09:35 AM This is mine, but since this was taken I reversed the control panel and installed a vintage string tree.
FrankMc January 18th, 2012, 09:43 AM And here she is after I reversed the control panel and replaced the string tree. I took this at Robert Johnson's grave in Greenwood MS when I christened her.

Was this easy to do? Much soldering required? Did you swap the volume and tone controls too (in addition to reversing the plate)?
xagyg February 1st, 2012, 06:25 PM Where can I get one?
They are still for sale in some stores in Europe (online too).
FrankMc February 1st, 2012, 07:15 PM Was this easy to do? Much soldering required? Did you swap the volume and tone controls too (in addition to reversing the plate)?
It was easy enough, you'll need to remove some wood at the new location of the switch so it will fit. You'll need to do a little bit of soldering the wiring to correct the knobs, very simple.

Great info. Thanks. By the way, what sort of soldering iron do you use - is there an optimum wattage for this type of work?
tele-bastard February 5th, 2012, 10:21 AM Here is one of my two.
FrankMc February 6th, 2012, 12:30 AM Great info. Thanks. By the way, what sort of soldering iron do you use - is there an optimum wattage for this type of work?
A 50 watt iron was used on mine, my tech has it and it cost about $200, but he says it's worth it's weight in gold because he uses it all the time.
One wire has to be removed and replaced with a longer wire, it's the (+) wire to the pot from the switch.
You will need to remove the eyelet ground connector which is screwed to the bottom of the electronic cavity wood where your switch is going to be. That wood will have to be removed with a dremel so the switch will fit, so screw the ground into the side of the cavity because the length of the screw will have it come out the bottom of your Tele. Take your time and have fun.
PhillipGregory February 6th, 2012, 03:13 AM Got mine last week and absolutely love it! Should also mention that this forum/club was a great help in researching before purchasing.. Thanks all around! I Wasn't able to try it out first as none of the stores around seattle carry the guitar, so I ordered it through g.c. a bit of a leap but couldn't be more happy. Took little time to intonate, the action was near perfect and the neck is just, well you know!
One thing I'm wondering.. I've noticed in some pictures, a "fender special edition" logo on the back of the head. This doesn't appear on mine or some others I've seen here on the forum. Any significance to that?
Great to see some of the mods done here, I'm digging the idea of the 52 bakelite pg n vintage tuners, Wonder how long fender will keep making these guitars.. wouldn't mind another one in the future.. I like that each is a bit unique with the different grains or whatever in the ash body. Well, I've gone on enough. Cheers everybody.
tele-bastard February 22nd, 2012, 08:59 PM Welcome Phil... shes a beauty... no significance... I have one with... one without. Both FSRs though. Sorry i didnt see this sooner.
Hoopermazing February 22nd, 2012, 09:25 PM Whenever I think of a Fender '52 Butterscotch Telecaster, I immediately think of Billy Squier rocking all out with his, scarlet red parachute pants and all, in the early 1980's.
fR0j7sModCI
Ha ha! He should have stuck with the BSB Tele and eschewed the pink blouse... and the frolicking about.
emisilly February 27th, 2012, 07:25 PM You can add me as a member, as I just picked mine up off of layaway on Saturday. Mine is a 3 piece body, but you cant see any seams. The grain is awesome, plus some flame on the back of the neck. I have a Muy Grande bridge pickup and a GFS minibucker sitting around, so a pickup swap is in the works. I'll post pics once its all done.
dstuart February 28th, 2012, 03:41 PM Butterscotch blonde is beautiful.... Those FSR teles are gorgeous....
Sensates March 31st, 2012, 10:55 AM Here's mine. Went through some pickups changes (SD vintage '54 neck, DMZ Chopper T, Twang King bridge) and now settled on a set of Fralins Stock, they're brilliant! The stock pickups was really rockin too, but I wanted something more traditional.

TheApolloCreed April 10th, 2012, 11:21 PM FIRST POST!
I was brought to this forum because of this very guitar, and I am glad to see so many people enjoy it. Im looking to pull the trigger and make this my first telecaster. Did everyone else get their from Guitar Center? I had little luck at GC the other day talking to anyone, but my guy will be there this week. Hopefully they can order me one, so I can play it before I buy it. Im too nervous to buy it blind directly from the site.
This is the right model, right? http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-FSR-Standard-Ash-Telecaster-Electric-Guitar-H72859-i1858007.gc
It says they arent in stock until the 23rd, so hopefully I can get on the front end of this next batch.
Thanks for all the help
kents May 1st, 2012, 06:12 PM I picked up my (roll out the acronyms!) MIM FSR BSB BG Tele last week at GC off the wall. Flawless so must have been a recent arrival. Easily the bang-for-the-buck Tele of a lifetime. Can't believe they sell this for $499. That's in the area of Stupid Cheap.
My other 2 Teles are MIA and this MIM FSR BSB BG Tele is every bit the quality and tone.
I'm in the club.

ModalMood May 1st, 2012, 06:25 PM One curious thing about mine is the pickup cavities seem to come out past the ashtray just a hair. No big deal but is this normal or did I get a funky one?
I discovered this "problem" on my 60s Classic Tele and was informed that it is totally normal and referred to as the "butt crack" (Search it. You'll find many threads). Nothing to worry about and invisible when the ashtray cover (not included) is in place.
Enjoy your new guitar. Bang on!
FrankMc May 1st, 2012, 09:46 PM I just purchased the exact same guitar a few days ago. Lovin it! No need to post pics. It is still stock. One curious thing about mine is the pickup cavities seem to come out past the ashtray just a hair. No big deal but is this normal or did I get a funky one?
I have this on the controls side of my ashtray too, but had the exact same thing on my old 78 Tele, so I must believe this is not uncommon.
TheApolloCreed May 28th, 2012, 05:21 PM I just bought mine at Guitar Center a few days ago and I really really enjoy the guitar. I did find that my bridge pickup cavity is a little wide as well. You can even see it on the images GC has online.
I bought a Blues Jr Tweed to go along with it, hopefully it will get here soon...
Beachbum May 29th, 2012, 03:14 PM I know it's sacrilege and you guys may have to kick me out of the club but my favorite all time Fender neck from an 83 American Strat was sitting around doing nothing and I missed playing it dearly. It has now found a home on my FSR BSB. I'm sorry but I just couldn't stop myself.

That's common on Fender vintage bridges which is not the only but one of the reasons I change all of my Teles to Gotoh Modern bridges. I haven't measured them but either the modern bridges are a tad wider or, because they don't roll up at the edges, they cover that little routing gap. On the other hand it's pretty much a traditional thing and I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you much. I just ordered a set of 52 reissue pups and a matte black guard and that will complete her.
Telecasteur July 12th, 2012, 02:48 AM Can anyone tell me about what kind of pickups come stock in these? All I can find is that they are called "classic" on the GC website.
Beachbum July 12th, 2012, 11:57 AM ^^ Fender lists them as "hot standard" and doesn't let on about much else leaving one to assume from that description that they are over wound Mexican standard pickups. Maybe? Since I posted the pics above I've changed mine to "Vintage Originals". Not because I didn't like the stock pups. In fact in some ways I liked them even better than the stock Alnico V's in my American Standard but I felt the Alnico III's were more vintage sounding which was what I was looking for. About the only other thing I can tell you is that the stock pups on the FSR are ceramic but again, in my opinion, very good ones.
guitargeezer July 19th, 2012, 11:39 AM I've joined the Club after lurking for a long time. Absolutely love it, although I may try a humbucker in the neck. I haven't pulled the pick guard yet...is it already routed for a humbucker?
By the way, I used a Friday the 13th coupon at GC and got mine for $435. What a deal!
FrankMc July 19th, 2012, 03:49 PM It's routed and waiting for your humbucker.
guitargeezer July 19th, 2012, 04:50 PM Outstanding! Thanks, Frank.
hmarrero August 4th, 2012, 11:25 PM Today I've joined the ranks of proud FSR BSB Reversed control plate guitar owners! USPS delivered, and was I ever so surprised! After returning a previous delivery (from UPS) because of damaged goods, I wasn't sure whether or not the guitar would arrive intact. I'm happy to say that it arrived in MINT condition..and with, believe it or not, practically a perfect set-up! It's as though I 'd cherry-picked it myself! Since this model is only available thru Guitar Center, and there are no Guitar Center stores in Puerto Rico, I had no option but to buy online. I'm glad I didn't give up on the first try! Kudos to GC for their courteous and prompt service...!

Wow, that is a great deal!
hmarrero August 5th, 2012, 09:43 PM A friend of mine went nuts when he saw the fsr butterscotch tele I've just recieved and decided then and there to order one. Sadly, it seems that they're not available...GC is currently out of stock. It seems they weren't joking when they said is was a limited edition. I hope for my friend's sake GC will restock...heck, something so hot shouldn't be a limited edition!!!
Quake-caster August 10th, 2012, 08:01 PM They do run out sometimes. When I ordered online, I got an e-mail the next day saying it would be back ordered for 6 weeks. Groan! It was worth the wait. Congrats on the sweet new BSB.
ferrass September 6th, 2012, 12:46 AM I got one of these too! Just couldn't be happier, i've bought mine at GC in chicago but i saw one in a local store here in Portugal, i guess they did spread quite well overseas!
Awsome guitar with great sound, just minor visual mods to make it look like a true vintage '52 tele:)
Maybe in the future i'll exchange the pu's but for now it really does the job damn well! rock on!
basher September 22nd, 2012, 09:39 PM Just got mine today. I was in GC to buy a microphone, but I started looking at guitars, and this sexy beast called out to me, and I plugged it in and sat down to play, and 45 minutes later the spot on the wall where it had been hanging had been restocked with another guitar, so I figured that was a sign.
What a little monster of an axe. I love the neck, and the hotter-than-average pickups are great for my style. The only caveat I've found is that the pickups don't seem to be hum-canceling in the middle position. Not a huge problem for me -- I turn my volume down between songs, and besides, the hum lets you know you're alive -- but more fastidious players than me might have a problem with it.

Congats and welcome to the club. These are crazy good guitars for the money. I have 5 guitars but my FSR BSB has become my number one go too guitar when I want to play.
Quake-caster September 26th, 2012, 10:38 AM Badger- that's great! I like to say that the hum in my little epiphone valve jr amp lets me know that it's alive!
Ike286 November 3rd, 2012, 03:14 PM Hope to join soon. Wanna get the tele on a black friday deal at GC! :)
Ike286 November 23rd, 2012, 08:36 PM I bought this FSR today, (black friday on an a special deal one of their representatives on internet chat gave me) It should arrive next week. IM PUMPED. been waiting two years to get this. but I'm a little saddened as If I dont like it (which im sure I will) but if for some reason it turned into non-returnable. But I will be back with pics and such eventually. :-)
Rockit MiC December 25th, 2012, 04:26 PM Hi, I'm new here and I just bought one of these a few days ago…
I first planned to buy a Mexican Lake Blue with the intention to customize it later and wanted to buy next year a '52 BSB reissue American Standard.
But since there was not a blue one in the shop I looked around and found this FSR! Necer heard about this limited series before.
I immediatly loved it: it seemed to me made with love. I tried it and was delighted!
Everything I expected from the American was there at one third of the price!!!!
So I modified my plans and made a serious saving and left the shop with my first Telecaster!
I've since made som research and found that everybody is delighted with this guitar: I personnally found not one defect! (And I'm not easy to satisfy!)
I'll even say that I'm very satisfied with the pickups!
I play something between rockabilly and garage and don't plan to change the pickups at all.
Maybe after a while I'll find that they could be better but for now they can growl and twang and I'm completely happy!

Murry January 6th, 2013, 05:53 PM So after having mine for over a year now, I'm still enjoying it and playing it daily. Just wondering if anyone's is showing wear or age? Mine, not so much. A few nicks on the fretboard is all. Do you guys expect any natural relicing?

Just scratches on the pickguard. I dont see the poly showing any wear at all, and dont expect to for a real long time.
Ike286 January 7th, 2013, 12:51 AM I got my tele week after black friday, Think I already said so, but, I (since its so new) havent noticed any relicing no dings or anything... obviously haha anyway some of the things i noticed were that it stays in tune REALLY well even when I took it to my other house in the car and through the cold, and also walked almost a mile with it on my back in 40 degree weather and it was IN TUNE. :) Anyway, I expect it to relic jsut like any other tele that is old, if you look at old 1952's that's what I expect eventually since i expect to keep it that long. :) Love it, keep rockin'!!!
DFLCC January 18th, 2013, 01:54 AM I am new to TDPRI and to the Telecaster and the FSR is my first one. I have been in to Gibson SGs' for 15 years and I am very proud of my SG arsenal. But this little Tele is definitively something else, it gives a very diferent type of tone. I am having a lot of fun with it. Mainly I have been playing blues with her. She pairs very well with my Fender Blues Jr.

cobalt6300 January 19th, 2013, 02:47 AM All stunning guitars! I am waiting on mine as its back ordered. I plan to put a humbucker in and an 0038. Should I get this new one shielded too?

I swapped pickups in mine. Didn't bother to shield anything. Sounds awesome w/ zero noise issues.
Summit January 21st, 2013, 02:19 PM Newbie here...
Just picked up my FSR BSB from GC last Wednesday.
I LOVE Her. It's like she was set up for me from the factory.
Once I figure out this site, I will post up a pic...
Obsessed January 24th, 2013, 11:30 PM A "return" from WW & BW. I don't know if it started out at a GC, but I suspect so. Barely played with the only scratches on the pickguard. I think that I've already hidden those today with my own. They still sell new ones and have a few used @ $100.00 off w/ free shipping. It needs some fret dressing on the low E side, but otherwise the 2 piece body rings almighty!!! The pups are really impressive, but then, I'm just a tele newbie on a honeymoon!
Summit January 28th, 2013, 10:39 AM New "RC" owner here. And here she is...
djwood February 1st, 2013, 08:51 PM Just joined the club this week. Fun guitar! I tend to tweak things, and I mainly got this because I want to designate a guitar as a Micawber (without going completely crazy on every detail). I also like noiseless pickups, so I have an Area T 615 ready to go in as soon as I receive the 36th Anni for the neck. Should be pretty spankin'.
Curious what folks are thinking about the PAT PEND bridge plate? I have some spare Callaham compensated saddles I can try if I get restless, but I wonder if this is the US made plate the CS uses or if this is outsourced. Anyway, here 'tis :)

stevene44 February 15th, 2013, 09:05 AM New guy here, about to pull the trigger on a FSR BSB.
Only thing I couldn't determine:
Is the truss rod adjustment access on this sweetie at the headstock, or at the butt end of the neck?
TIA

Obsessed February 15th, 2013, 01:17 PM Still on honeymoon 5 weeks in. I just got some D'addario light top/heavy bottom 10-52s (that someone here recommended), that I'll put on tomorrow. I'm using her for open "G" exploration and slide work. I got mine as a return at WW & BW for $100 off. The frets needed a little dressing is probably why it was returned. Only a couple light scratches on pickguard per their ad. Since I bought it, I've read here somewhere about someone else have the bridge pick up hole showing from under the bridge plate. Sure enough, if I look close enough I can see mine. Apparently, it has been dubbed, "the butt crack". I always thought the GC specials were probably slightly lower quality. I found that true with GC special Gibson Les Paul studios (which BTW were way worse than my tele). Nevertheless, for just a few bucks more than a Squier, I'm totally digging my first tele. The pups are hot and I really wanted the reverse control for swells. The neck and 2 piece body are stunning.:grin::grin::grin::grin:

Congrats on your new Tele! One note: the "butt crack" you speak of is common on plent of Teles, regardless of where they are made and when, so it's not a sign of a poor quality guitar. It's just a quirk that pops up on Tele's.
Obsessed February 16th, 2013, 12:58 AM Thanks emisilly. It kind of bugged me, now that I see it. I kind of wanted that old vibe, so, somehow it seems to fit who I am anyway.
Ike286 February 18th, 2013, 10:20 AM Hey guys, my fsr tele has a three piece body, for a while after i got it i couldnt even find the seem, since its perfect top and bottom, but i eventually found it on the sides. SO mine's a 3-piece, anyone else??? And dont worry about vintage mojo, many old fenders were 3's. Not realllllyyyy old but vintage at least.

Mine is a 3 piece as well, but it is almost impossible to see the seams if you look on the top or back. On the sides you really, reallly have to look, but they are there. Pretty remakable that it all matches so well.
Obsessed February 18th, 2013, 11:07 PM Over 5 weeks in: I threw on the D'Addarios' light/heavys, along with an extensive fret dressing job (had to wait to make sure it wasn't just a lack of humidity thing during shipping) and a little gloss buffing on the back of the neck and now I have a tele! I first put her back into standard tuning and whoa, it brought my MI audio Blues Pro w/fuzz alive on the EAD strings through a 6L6!!! Wicked stuff. Now, I finally "get" the tele thing. I stopped to listened to the O.D. sustain and the hair stood up on the back of my neck. I can't believe I waited to get a tele until my sixth guitar.
Once I put her into Open G, what a sound! The neck is now as fast as my MIM Strat and all of my second thoughts are gone!
I get it now. You are all waaaaay ahead of me. Thanks for all the help over the last few months!!
FrankMc February 19th, 2013, 09:11 PM My FSR is three piece and has the "butt crack", so did my 70's Tele.
Hayduke February 20th, 2013, 11:28 PM Just ordered my FSR BSB... waiting for it to ship. I can't wait! :D
Ike286 February 21st, 2013, 11:53 PM Hey,
I started thinking this week about saddles, and am wondering if anyone has tried the stewmac compensated saddles. the 15$ ones. My dad has them on his 52RI and they are nice, but i didnt know if there was different mojo to be had with the FSR BSB. ANYWAY... haha anyone try them, any thoughts???
TheFlyingAlamo March 5th, 2013, 10:57 PM I got the GC FSR BSB Tele last spring...still loving it...it has become my go to guitar!
Haven't changed a thing about it...yet!
Graphtech nut, string tree, and saddles going on it soon...and maybe some new Bill Lawrence pickups...but I'm totally digging the current tones it has!
PooTwang March 8th, 2013, 06:25 AM Got this one in 2011 added some No casters
Maradona86 March 15th, 2013, 10:43 AM pulled the trigger on one yesterday. Been wanting a BSB tele since high school (mid 90's). I never liked the u shaped neck and wished that Fender would have one that had a Modern C neck like my Am. St. HALLELUJAH! They did it! I can't wait to get it and run it through it's paces. Promise I'll post a response. Fingers crossed it makes the journey safely!
shanghaitele March 15th, 2013, 11:37 PM What kind of pickups this guitar have? Alnico or ceramics? Mine are ceramics, but according to the specs I have found online should be alnico...
Quake-caster March 23rd, 2013, 10:46 PM I always assumed my 2011 was ceramic, but I have not checked. The specs online aren't very good. The specs on mine said 3 ply pickguard and six saddle bridge. The picture was right, so I was pretty sure what to expect.
Obsessed March 24th, 2013, 12:28 AM Is there an easy way to check if they are ceramic?
Hiker March 24th, 2013, 01:11 AM Recently at my local GC I have played all four (4) current '52 or '51 type Butterscotch/Blonde Fender Teles and I have rated the pickups below.
Great post, thanks for the review!
janman March 29th, 2013, 09:54 PM On the left is my MIM Special Edition Tele Butterscotch with Seymour Duncans. The neck humbucker (SD '59) was standard on this GC special run. Similar to the 60th Anniv. USA Limited Edition Vintage Hot Rod.
The Tele on the right is the latest MIJ FSR '52 re-issue (only 240 made).
emisilly March 30th, 2013, 02:21 PM Is there an easy way to check if they are ceramic?
Just look on the bottom of the pickup. The Mexican ceramic, hotter wound pickups have 2 ceramic bars running along the bottom of the pickup.

here is a pick of the hot ceramics I took out of my 2010 FSR BSB
Ike286 April 1st, 2013, 10:23 AM I don't like ceramics really, but the ones from mine sounding pretty good, the neck was nice, a little muddy, and the bridge was just a little too dark, but sounded awesome for rock, which has been said. I as a diyer have wound some pickups for mine and they sound GREAT, I got some really nice twang in the bridge and great smooth neck pickup. Those are the main two descriptions but they really got "that" sound, and can do way more.
Obsessed April 1st, 2013, 11:04 AM Thanks emisilly and DTPBUSCHPILOT. Thank you. I've just learned how to get a better/clearer tone out of the neck pup. I found the sweet spot height adjustment using the nickel/double nickel method. Now I'm rolling off the treble a little more too. Now it is all good. Back in honeymoon phase.
Thanks again!
kents April 2nd, 2013, 11:11 PM I can understand how these are considered excellent platforms to upgrade - but it's been a year for me and I still pick my stock guitar up every day and get happy. Haven't changed a thing.
FrankMc April 6th, 2013, 11:19 PM I have only change the string tree to a vintage style and reversed the reversed plate to regular. When I bought the guitar I thought about changing the pups, but after getting to know them more, I'm keeping them. I love this guitar.
cobalt6300 April 11th, 2013, 12:20 AM Hi-ho fine TDPRIers...got a reverse BSB...I am going to put new pickups (0038 and '59 Duncan) in it and keep it as my open G strummer-slide guitar...should I flip the control plate too--just turn it into a Macawber wannabe?

cobalt6300 April 12th, 2013, 04:32 PM This guitar is discontinued?
cobalt6300 April 14th, 2013, 04:23 PM Hey, it say "discontinued" at the bottom of your list of specs....is this model being discontinued? Just wondering.
Ike286 April 15th, 2013, 10:31 AM No, it means there might be discontinued parts or color of this guitar, you see there are colons on there. and then nothing after them. It shouldn't be discontinued. If you really have to know FOR SURE, just get on GC.com and chat with an online associate for a minute.
John Randall April 20th, 2013, 11:50 AM Count me in I just picked this up used and a little dinged. nice guitar. i am not crazy about standard C necks cause i like clubs . but this 1 seems a little fatter then your avarage standard. and i love the wild looking ash. gotta clean and string her up. i am taking it to the gig tonight and playing the **** out of her. :)https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/551498_613432992018064_1851432167_n.jpg

OK, I give up.
Anyone have a link to the "nickel/double nickel method" for adjusting height of the neck p/u?
Thx-
Ike286 April 20th, 2013, 11:25 PM Does anyone have a good clean twangy country guitar demo of this. I have the guitar and I play country music, but it's always nice to hear someone else that has a similar guitar. I haven't quite been able to get a really good twang tone out of mine yet. I know some of you guys like dimarzio twang king, and some like it stock, but what have you got?

The stock pickups are wound hotter and are probably in there to appeal to more "modern" tones, i.e. rock. Pretty much any vintage wound replacement set will get you a much more country friendly tone. The Fender Orignial Vintage (same set as in the 52 reissue) is a great, economical choice that nails country tones. You also might want to check the classifieds here as some really great deals on pickups come up often.
Ike286 April 22nd, 2013, 10:46 AM The pickups I have sound great, I guess its more of a technique thing, and I just wanted to see how other people played theirs, and their tone. I tried a 52 RI bridge pickup in mine, and IDK if the one I got was just bad or what, but it sounded like the worst $20 squier pickup or something like that, just not good at all. Oh well, it sounds good as is, although I need to get my pickup heights right, the neck pickup is too jazzy and smooth, and the bridge pickup is a little bit too bright, and a "little" ice-picky and bright."
zepfan59 April 22nd, 2013, 03:14 PM Had to join this group because I think I may have bough the first one at the Guitar Center in North Dallas--so they told me anyway. LOVE IT. But question about the pups. Not any info except, hotter than standard--but some say not as strong as Texas Specials. Just wondering if anybody has discovered anything new about them.
I actually would like to put something weaker in mine, more traditional sounding.
FrankMc April 22nd, 2013, 04:38 PM I like the pups that come with it, but I have been jonesing for some pickups by Jon Baxter. Jonbaxterpickups.com
pall_5 April 24th, 2013, 11:42 AM If it were discontinued, it would have a date indicating what year it was discontinued.
i.e.
Introduced: 2010
Discontinued: (blank indicating that it is still available).
Ike286 April 24th, 2013, 12:04 PM Yup. Same with the colors, if it had discontinued colors, it would be like this...
Discontinued colors: black, green, goldtop (or whatever)
Has anybody had fret issues? Mine stick out the side of the neck a tad, and its a bit annoying. Are there any really good tutorials online or good advice you can offer?
Ike286 April 24th, 2013, 12:16 PM Heres mine with the following mods:
1. Fender OV bridge pup
2. Fender Twisted Tele neck pup
3. 52 RI Bakelite pickguard
4. Kluson Vintage tuners
5. Round 50s string tree
It sounds and plays great!

Hey broly,
How much did it cost you to get just the tuners, string tree, and pickguard, if you dont mind me asking? Since Those are the things I want now. Although, I like the tuners a lot, just the vintage ones are easier to string up IMO, and they look "right."
TheFlyingAlamo May 5th, 2013, 09:09 PM So...I'm looking to upgrade my bridge on my FSR BSB...what size or style do I need to go after?
Will a "modern" 6 saddle bridge fit if I decide to go that route? Will an "old" style 6 saddle fit?
PumpJockey May 5th, 2013, 09:34 PM No it's not a funky one. My bridge pickup route extends a bit out from under the plate, but so did the route on my 78 Tele. I don't think it's at all uncommon.
That's called "butt crack" and almost all teles made to the original spec will have it!

looks like theyre still sellin em.

The modern 6 saddle Gotoh bridge they sell on the Sterward Mcdonald site is a direct drop in on any Fender Tele w/ a vintage bridge. It's heavier, more solid, and made of chromed brass. Would likely beef up the tone a good bit and add some sustain. I've pondered trying one for a while.

I don't believe what you used to quote me was off base at all and if you have read other posts by me on this very thread you will see I referred to it as the accepted term of "butt crack" if that makes you happy, but thanks for pointing this out to me.
