Help me choose a reverb option....

I have previously had amps that included reverb but recently I got a couple of old amps that have no on board reverb. What would you all recommend for an economical (under $150.00) effect?

I'm currently in a "no-reverb phase" - it happens; so aside from an actual Fender Out-Board 3 knob Tank
the two I'd look at would be a "Holy Grail" and the
"Alesis Nano-Verb"...both are great units - the Alesis
does a lot more (rotary chorus, delay, several verbs).
and has Mono AND Stereo "ins and outs" if You're playing
a Stereo Instrument like a Gibson or a Ric. The Grail is
the way to go with a Champ. Simple - Perfect.

The Digitech X-Series Digiverb. I have one and it does everything I need (room, hall, a nice spring simulation and even a kooky reverse reverb).

I got mine for $65 used. Check them out, you might find what you're looking for.

Is the Holy Grail. Do a search here on it and you will find a thousand endorsees.

Did't tried that much but I have an EH Holy Grail and I love it. Only cons is that it isn't battery operated, so adapter is always needed (btw they do supply one with the pedal)

i love my holy grail. one note, it does have a slight hiss to it. if that bugs you it might not be for you. but if you are not planning to be recording i don't think you'd even notice it, unless you were listening for it
the quality of the reverb is excellent, it has spring, hall, and "flerb" which is this wacky flanger'ed reverb. spring sounds fender'y, hall sounds big and lush, and flerb sounds wacky and goofy

1) The reverb decay is too long.
2) Depending on how much gain has been dialed up on the amp, it can get quite hissy regardless of where the reverb knob is set.

With these said, I use one set to the spring mode and like it fine. I keep the reverb knob at somewhere between min and 8:00 and put up with the hiss. Honestly I can't imagine anyone having the reverb dialed up more than that unless s/he likes everything swimming in a pool of reverb.

i use the spring mode very sparingly as well. the hiss seems to be just from having the unit on, i have not noticed and difference in the settings and the hissiness, but i wasnt specifically lookin either.
as to your swimming pool of reverb comment, some people like that. fuzzy told us he uses the reverb on his twins set to 8!! yes, we thought he was lying, but when pressed he insisted :shock: :lol:

i've got a holy grail and like it plenty. that said, i tend not to use reverb at the mo'. i haven't found the noise to be a problem at all while playing live.

one thing i love about EH pedals is you can adjust the knobs with your foot because they are so damn big.
