Phil_tre February 17th, 2011, 01:23 AM Hi !
I was not very happy with my new MiM tele...
Buzzing, high action, high nut sluts, etc. Like
a $100 guitar at best...
So today, I receive my Stew Mac order,
and with the instruction of a couple of
member of TDPRI forum and Mr. Kirn, I
did the complete level and crown first.
It was easy ! But after that, ok the neck
is leveled but the nut is still high. So I cut
the sluts one by one to get .019" at the first
fret with a 3/64" action !
Wow, it's not the same guitar at all... Feels
like my friend custom Godin now...
I just want to thanks you all for your great
support and help at building confidence to
do the job... By the way, I play guitar only
since last November... I'm a drummer
Philippe
My buzz free setup:
D'Addario 10-46
3/64" action @ 17th fret, no capo
.019" at the nut between top of first fret and all strings, no capo
.010" curvature @ 8th fret (capo first and last fret)
bugbiteaudio February 17th, 2011, 01:33 AM Congratulations. There is nothing like learning to adjust the instruments you play on your own. Very satisfying.
lcjaubrey February 22nd, 2011, 07:40 AM Which kit or what tools did you order from Stew-Mac to get the job done?
Ronkirn February 22nd, 2011, 08:41 AM Congrats....
Too many feel the only way to get a great playing guitar is to throw a couple a thou down and walk out with a CS etc....
Ive said so many times... more times than not... a couple a hundred and a good tech is all that's needed.... a body is a body, a neck is a neck, and the rest of the stuff, does what it's supposed to also... it's just a matter of getting the geometry right... and bingo! you gotta player..

TeleTex82 February 22nd, 2011, 09:11 AM Congratulations! Its something I've wanted to learn but must admit Is a little intimidating since I've never been the best with my hands.

Jeff H February 22nd, 2011, 10:31 AM Congrats !!!
What one man can do, another can do.
Tools, knowledge and persistence.

You play guitar and aren't good with your hands...
You mean you need to learn how to wield other tools than a guitar. Your hands will know what to do once you try/practice. Buy a $50 guitar to learn on, then do your good stuff later after you get it down on the cheap-o.
Phil_tre February 22nd, 2011, 08:27 PM yeah what he asked.
Oh, a couples of nut files, a fret crowning file $$$$$$, and the
famous overprice StewMac level beam  The diamond
fret crowning files is a must have...
Thanks !

...some guitar will not go that low...
I did my 2nd neck this week end and I just
cannot adjust it lower than 5/64"... it's a MiM
standard Tele also. I have try more or less truss
