Jimmyspaz February 14th, 2011, 01:00 PM Since Burns guitars have made for at least 50 years I can`t be the only one in TDPRIland to own one. That would include, of course, Burns, Burns Ormiston, Burns Baldwin, Burns UK, Burns London and Shergold.
Here`s mine, 2004 Burns London Cobra.
chezdeluxe February 14th, 2011, 03:56 PM I have a 1999 Korean made Marquee just like this one. Alder body, flame maple fingerboard, trussrod adjustment at heel of neck,"The Point Classic" tremelo system, pull tone pot to allow neck pickup to be added to any other pickup selection on 5 way switch. Plays and sounds great. No wonder they won Guitar of the year in English Guitarist Magazine.

My Cobra has the same bridge and pull-pot switching.

Can't say that the headstock does it for me, but that's a sweet looking neck. Very nice.
blargfromspace February 14th, 2011, 08:27 PM I have a Burns Baldwin Vibraslim, made in England in '68.

Sounds as good as it looks. The pickups are great.
I think there may be another "Burns Owners Club" somewhere here.
stinkey February 27th, 2011, 01:18 PM As soon as i learn how to load up pictures i will show you my -64 splitsound.

I did a search for " Burns Owners" and nothing came up, if there is another thread could someone provide a link?
Peppercorn March 15th, 2011, 06:49 AM Hey I've been looking for you!!!!!!
Presently I'm building a telebastard (because it's a bit of this and that) and I bought Burns Pickups!!
But I would love to know how you wired your pickups?? Did you do them the same as a stock Strat? or did you wire them a different way.
I'd love to know. thanks in advance

My Cobra has a five-way switch, master volume, tone (neck and middle), tone (bridge), with a pull-pot on the bridge tone switch that turns the neck pickup on.
This means that any combination of pickups is available.
WickedGTR March 15th, 2011, 08:11 PM I had a limited edition Burns Marvin, and still have a Marquee... Great guitars!

Jimmyspaz March 18th, 2011, 03:08 PM RIP Jet Harris; 1940-2011.
jfinester December 18th, 2011, 04:51 AM I'm fortunate enough to have a modern Burns Nu-Sonic (the one that sort of resembles a Tele, not the '60's one) that was built for me by Barry Gibson (the current head of Burns) in 2002 after the model had been discontinued. It's got a semi-chambered ash body in green sunburst, three Rez-O-Matik pickups, a classic Burns black pickguard engraved with "Burns Of London", a Rezo-Tube fixed bridge that was standard on those models, and a birdseye-maple neck with a pearloid-bound ebony fingerboard, scroll headstock with Van Ghent tuners, and a yellowish tint finish. It's also the only one of that model, as far as I know, to have a two-knob (volume and tone) control layout--the production ones had a four-knob setup that included a separate volume control for a piezo in the bridge--which I asked Barry for, and he told me that the piezo setup had been problematic and he didn't recommend it. It's a great guitar, and answers the question, "What would a Tele look like if Jim Burns had designed it?", although I believe Barry Gibson actually designed it.
AndyinLiverpool January 21st, 2012, 05:37 PM I have a 2007 Steer.
Most versatile guitar I've ever had. And as weirdly pretty as it's possible to be.
Jimmyspaz September 5th, 2012, 06:47 PM Played my Cobra at a blues club last week.
phleg September 24th, 2012, 10:45 AM Hello, guys. What do you think about this guitar http://burnsguitars.com/sonicburnsguitars.php ?
Jimmyspaz September 24th, 2012, 12:00 PM Hello, guys. What do you think about this guitar http://burnsguitars.com/sonicburnsguitars.php ?
I like that, sort of a Tele with Tri-sonics.
phleg September 24th, 2012, 04:14 PM Jimmyspaz, do you hear it? It's amazing - bright highs, tight mids and low end. And IMHO, it always sounds a little more crunchy, than the amp can give. I would like to compare it with G&L ASAT Classic and Fender American Standard Tele...
Double Six April 27th, 2013, 03:07 PM I like that, sort of a Tele with Tri-sonics.
I have a Sonic. Mine is "Deluxe", basically the same but with 3 pups and a 5 way switch + pop the tone button off to get other pup options. I love it. If I get around to taking pictures or recordings I'll post them.
It's a very versatile guitar with its own character and sound, thanks to the Tri-sonics. which give a range of silvery to warm sounds.
I also have a Fender American Special Tele, which has very strong pups. The Burns Sonic gets close to this but then adds a whole different range of warmer tones. That means it is my weapon of choice if I'm gigging with 1 guitar. I don't use much distortion so can't comment on how it handles heavy distortion-although I believe Queen/Brian May uses tri-sonics on his famous "red special" so they should be fine.
There aren't any really goot videos of this guitar on line but there is some nice vids of a 12 string using tri-sonics. It obviously sounds totally different but gives an idea of the range you can get from them. I also have a double six and love that as well. Maybe I will do a review of the Sonic or a youtube vid when I get some time. I think both my guitars are Asian, although the sonic may be put together in the UK as its from the Burns Elite series and the company HQ is still in the UK. Whatever, they are really solidly built-can't fault either of them.
