Thighbanez February 9th, 2011, 05:41 PM This past sunday morning, the drummer and myself (guitar) arrived for service along with the praise team. However, the keyboardist didn't show up for the opening song.
The drummer and I were completely frightened.
We didn't realize how much we depend on the keyboardist to lead the music.
The drummer actually got up and sat down in the audience.
I decided to try and play a few double-stop chords to go along with what the praise team was singing...as closely as I could.
It didn't go well.

You never realize how loud your amp is until you're the only instrument. Funny how it makes you play soooooo much quieter.
I think I'm going to buy the keyboardist a card and let him know just how much of an awesome praise leader he is.
Yeah...I'm gonna do that.
Nub February 9th, 2011, 06:51 PM Great singing! Too bad about the keyboard player, but you and the drummer should've played anyway... some full chords behind the vocals would've sounded nice.
Thighbanez February 9th, 2011, 09:04 PM I tried but its too hard to keep up with them when they keep changing the key half a step every verse. I'm just not there yet...
Nub February 10th, 2011, 12:37 AM Yeah, that would be pretty tough... Great for working on your bar chords, though!
Ronsonic February 10th, 2011, 03:54 AM Tell that drummer, from me, he should have taken his man pill and played.

Thats what I thought too...but, ah well...
Durtdog February 10th, 2011, 07:46 AM Tell that drummer, from me, he should have taken his man pill and played.
Yep. In the words of Warren Zevon,
"Be loyal to the ones you leave with, even if you fail."
Sharp5 February 10th, 2011, 07:47 AM Is this the same keyboard player you had problems with before? Did you guys get it worked out?
Sharp5 February 10th, 2011, 07:53 AM Never mind. Saw the other thread.
Thighbanez February 10th, 2011, 02:31 PM Sharp5, It's all worked out.
I've decided to focus on God and play for him and let the cards fall where they be.
:)
BLACK MAMBA February 10th, 2011, 02:43 PM It was still uplifting to hear the ladies sing. This is my first post or reply. What a great way to continue with my journey
ChickenKiller February 10th, 2011, 06:17 PM Did anyone else try to play along over the computer speakers?
What Key was she in? I 'guessed' D ?
That would of been a bit tricky Thigh haha

Oh no, no one else stepped up to the plate.
I tried for a little while (Faintly, as you can barely hear) but even I chickened out when she started going up in 1/2 step increments each verse.

I'm honored that you posted your first post in the "Worship Service Players" forum.

thunderbyrd February 15th, 2011, 12:35 PM our pastor is basicaly our worship leader and he does a great job. but several sundays in the past 2 -3 months he was gone and the assitant pastor took his place. the assitant pastor doesn't play an instrument, so it more or less came down to me to lead. it was intimidating! and we don't do any half-step modulations or anything like that, just stick to the chord charts. i had to take TWO manpills and i felt like it still wasn't enough!
we don't usually have a keyboardist, so what i did was i turned my boss rt-20 rotary simulater over to where it almost sounds like an organ and just plowed right through...no one was killed, even though we did wreck 2 or 3 trains. but we got better every sunday we did it.
Coricama February 15th, 2011, 01:18 PM Sounded fine, I'm sure the Lord was pleased and that's all that counts.
HOBBSTER01 February 15th, 2011, 01:31 PM Way to man up.

Oh wow, that's awesome. Way to man up and do what needed doing.
I won't fail again. My pedals should arrive in the mail on thursday (Tremolo, phaser and delay). Once I build my pedalboard i'll be ready to lead with a strong rhythm section.

WOW you must have been watching me play
StootMonster February 21st, 2011, 05:24 PM Way to go, man. Maybe the other players can learn a lesson from your dedication.
Mars Hall April 18th, 2011, 09:58 AM This has happened to me on a handful of occasions. To me, the hardest part is starting the song, tempo wise and feel. We have such a repertoire, it's a challenge to remember them all.
