Whenver I post a link or a pic this happens.....

This website is using a scripted window to ask you for information. If you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows......

I know this is a common thing with IE but on most/many other websites it has the option to always allow scripted windows on that particular site. However on the TDPRI it only offers to allow it temporarily so each time I want to post a link or a photo I have to go throught the same process of clicking to temporarily allow for scripted windows. It's a bit of a pain.

How do I alter my settings so I don't have to go through this each time?

Thanks:smile:

This issue is totally on your end... and is do to some setting that you have initiated. I've never heard of anyone else receiving this notice.

So, whatever you set up to do this -- you'll have to undo to fix it.

Using something other than IE would be a great start! Try Firefox.

MS IE doesn't do this either. But yes, FF is a good choice.

Nothing that I know does this except Mr. Bonyguy's computer.

I was aware that it was my computer and not the website. I figured that it would be a simple matter of adjusting some settings in IE and that someone would instantly have that info at their fingertips but.........I guess not. Not yet anyway.

It's a strange one. But then again I have other annoying little issues with this computer because I've got it crammed with all kinds of stuff and I don't really keep it maintained and streamlined all that well I must admit so it seems like this may just be one of several little glitches that I've got going on.

It's not a huge problem by any means. I just figured there may be a simple solution, other than changing browsers, but maybe that would be a good thing.

This is not just boneyguys computer problem. Does it on mine as well. When I want to add an image or link I get the same thing boneyguy is talking about and I haven't found a way to change the behavior.

MSIE 8

I'm not complaining just coroborating the behavior. And no, I won't use FireFox.

from our friends at Microsoft:

In Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Level > Custom
go through the script settings and enable scripting - this is just for sites that you have added to your trusted list so be sure you add the site you are trying to log in to exactly as the URL appears in your browser bar. It is most likely an ActiveX script so be srue you allow ActiveX scripts without prompting. But ONLY for trusted sites.

You also want to turn Pop up blocker off. Apply these changes and close IE. Open it back up and try your site again. You may have to play around with the scripting settings until you find the right one, so you may bave to do this a couple of times.

On my IE you can only add https sites to the trusted sites zone.

I googled the term to find the answer... I don't run windows or IE so, in many respects, we know the vb bulletin software isn't causing the problem (I think that is Paul's point) it is caused by IE and how it is implemented.. the best source for IE information might be Microsoft.... which is where I found the initial answer...

I found two other answers from MS engineers: 1) set your settings back to default for security instead of doing what Gloria (the first engineer) suggested or 2) To always allow scripted windows, check the Allow websites to prompt for information using scripted windows custom security setting."

There are lots of builds of IE and Windows, so, yours may have different requirements and settings... I have generally found pretty good info on MS' site as to resolving these problems...

I saw one entry on the vbulletin site and pretty much everyone shrugged... it is just not 'theirs'....

Thanks for the prompting to search it out.

For boneyguy and anyone else looking for the solution to this look here (http://www.polishforums.com/archives/2005_2007/faq-feedback-23/information-ie-ie-users-re-image-url-link-buttons-3314/). Oh, and I was able to load in that link with out the popup prompting me...

Thanks

Glad you found the answer.

This forum is for problems with our website, including our software. So, that's why my answer was the problem is on your end. I'd love to be able to solve all the computer issues of our 60,000 members -- but I just can't.

I'm truly glad your found it and also to learn what the issue is. So, when it comes up again I can point folks here.

I changed some settings in IE so that I could see what's happening. It's really IE nagging over nothing -- see, the BBCode that VB uses does run a script -- it changes certain, safe, non-html coding into html coding. This prevents people from putting html into posts, but still gives them the style that html can provide -- bold, italic and links and images.

If you set MS IE to be really strict it will warn you about scripting routines like this -- however, it's a red herring. Lumping this kind of scripting in with truly malicious scripting does much more harm than good.

It's like shouting Fire at a theater because the popcorn is warm. If there was a Fire you'd want to know it -- but you'd rather have warm popcorn than cold popcorn. This kind of warning does the same thing. It yells "fire" at nothing. So what do you do? You either turn it off or ignore it. Then when a really evil script comes along you don't even seen it coming.

Thanks pchilson
