66 Tele Wiring Question

Working on my 1st "from scratch" wiring project, and it's not working...

I'm using the '66 Seymore Duncan wiring diagram, and I think I did it right, and I checked the connection with a meter and they seem to be good.

Here's what's wrong:

1. The positions are backwards (flip it towards the neck pickup, and you get the bridge pickup, visa versa).

2. Middle position doesn't work.

Any bright ideas off the top of your heads? I noticed that my switch has the terminals on the opposite side as the diagram, but I just did them in order. I don't have a neck on it, but I'm using a tuning fork to get the tone. The tone and volume pots seems to be working correctly.

Also, what size screws do you use for the 3 bridge pickup screws? The ones I got with my Joe Barden bridge are a tiny bit small for my pickup, so it's just floating there.

Thanks!
Mark

Any pics? "I checked the connection with a meter and they seem to be good" and "Middle position doesn't work" (or "positions are backwards") don't go well together.

Without pics, my initial guess is that you've wired the switch backwards.

I'll add a photo later, and double check the connections. Thanks!

Here's a photo.

One thing that might be an issue is this. The diagram looks like this:

A-
- B
C-
- D
E-
- F
G-
-H

but my switch looks like this:

-1
2-
-3
4-
-5
6-
-7
8-

I wired it so "A" is "1" etc... So, the white lead from the neck pickup goes to "2". Is that backwards?

Here's the photo. Note that the white lead to the bridge pickup is the one with the black shrink on it.

B is 1, A is 2, etc. A common mistake.

I'll have a look at the pic when I can get to a suitable terminal. (writing this on a text only browser atm)

That's probably it. I debated which way it should go, and chose the wrong one...

Thanks so much - when I have the energy I'll unsolder and try again!

FYI, I re-did the wiring and this was the correct fix. Thanks so much!

I can't wait to get the neck finished and hear how it sounds!

the 66 switches have the lugs on the opposite side. i found the tdpri website looking for the diagram or cure and couldnt figure out what was wrong. turns out the vintage switchs' lugs were opposite from the new wiring diagram.

I just looked at photo again and need to add a disclaimer:
I'll take credit/blame for the wiring, but I didn't burn the edge of the pickguard - it was like that when I got it!

Probably the handiwork of the same guy who told me the lead pickup was a VanZandt but it is not. You should have seen the mess I had to rip out of there...
