cactusrob December 22nd, 2010, 10:52 AM Who's got pics of their guitar workbenches or work spaces, parts bins, tools, gadgets, gizmos, etc?
I'm working on my space for tinkering/modding/repairing (not building from scratch) guitars and was wondering what ideas some folks may have in their work spaces...

An old door is the perfect size for a workbench. Just cover it with some 1/8" masonite/hardboard.

NYbill December 22nd, 2010, 11:49 AM Mine is just a regular wood working bench (in a constant state of messiness). And I use a Stewmac bench rest when a instrument is on it.
Colt W. Knight December 22nd, 2010, 11:59 AM Look at all these fancy work benches that are actually benches.

The table saw is such a versatile tool

And a thickness planer makes a great spray gun hook.

I would love to see a build thread on the violin.
Jack Wells December 22nd, 2010, 01:55 PM I was hoping mellecaster would post pictures of his workspace. That has got to be the best kept and organized workshop around.

+1 !
Thanks for all the pics, folks... motor city, I'd love to hear/see how that sewing machine pickup winder works...I've heard a couple of others on here talk about doing that. I think fezz parka said he uses one he modified for that purpose.. interesting !

Sorry, but that was built from a partial kit several years ago for my son. No pics available. It's was hanging there because I recently had to do some repair work to it.

Too bad...always love your build threads.

I've got to agree with you jack, my jaw dropped when I seen how organized it was.
CACTUSROB: motor city goes into detail on his sewing machine winder in this thread (http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/212255-started-another-telecaster-build-today-x12.html). An awesome read.

The coolest part about it IMO is that he didnt destroy the sewing machine. He did it in a way that he could put it back together and still sew with it. That's worth a ton of cool points in my book.
mrench01 December 22nd, 2010, 03:55 PM I don't have a photo of mine, but I think I have seen about a Zillion of the Black & Decker Workmate Bench / Vise's in people photos.

Many a Telecaster has been repaired, constructed, re-finised, re-wired, hot-rodded, and loved on one of these benches. I just wish I didn't have to re-design mine with better screws to keep it from falling apart.
Cheers and Merry Christmas!

I used to, now I've got cool computerized winder that I can set the amount of turns. I still guide by hand and control the speed with my foot.
LoudTele December 22nd, 2010, 11:40 PM A well timed discussion; My dust collector just arrived yesterday, an early Christmas present, and the tools will be migrating to the basement from the garage over the next few days. Really looking forward to being able to use them in the cold Wisconsin winter.
