Don't know if this has been done. Hopefully not. In my case it was:

Led Zeppelin - Nassau Coliseum - Uniondale, NY - June 14, 1972

The highest priced ticket was $6.50.

Foghat - Blue Oyster Cult - Black Sabbath, at the Aud in Buffalo, sometime in the late 70's.

Blue Oyster Cult blew the other 2 away.

Black Sabbath is to blame for my tinnitus.

Johnny Cash Royal Albert Hall 1987, I was young. My mum said she'd buy me a harmonica if I'd go, so I was like WTF. I suppose it was better then letting me watch Transformers all day.

Wow, I would have loved to see that - one of my favourite singles of all time!
PS 'old' is cool - how else could I have seen Eric Clapton, playing with the Yardbirds at my first concert (also in 1964)...

I think I was in primary school when my folks too me to Barry McGuire.

Dad took me to Kris Kristofferson/Johnny Cash, as well as Garth Brooks in high school.

First pub show I went to when after I turned 18 - The Holmes Brothers - in a tiny dive in Fremantle, W. Australia. Hooked.

From your sig you are 49, so you went to see LZ when you were 11?

My first was Black Sabbath Brisbane, November 1974. They started in on their first number (can't remember it, big power chords), and all the lights went off. They trooped off stage, light s came back, band came back and started again. Same thing! I remember Ozzie threw the mic stand at the back wall. They didn't do that number, took too much power. That's rock!

The Who at Freedom Palace, KCMO, July 2, 1970. Summer between my junior and senior years of high school. My best friend and I got tickets because a teacher we both liked our junior year was so stoked they were coming to KC he talked about it constantly. In those days there were no videos, virtually no concert movies, etc., so we had no idea what we were in for...

I think it was Johnny Winter at Capital Center Landover MD......probably 72 or 73......much of the 70's are a bit of a fog!......I'm thinking Brownsville Station was the opening act which would probably put it in 73. I saw Bread at Palmer Auditorium here in Austin.
It was the fall of 70'.
They were good, but the guitar player (Tele) was out of tune.
England Dan (Seals) and John Ford Coley opened up.

My next show (71') was The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
They had a bass player who wore a RCMP uniform.
They were all in tune.

I grew up in Nashville, so it probably wasn't my first concert. But it was my first rock show, and the first show I went to without my parents. Blue Öyster Cult, 1983 (The Revölution By Night tour, I had to look it up). I don't even remember who opened.

The first concert I ever attended (in a rock concert at a big arena context) was the Beach Boys. The first concert I ever attended without my parents was Cheap Trick on the Dream Police tour. For the latter show, the opening act was this band I had never heard of called The Romantics. They came out onstage decked out in red leather and playing Rickenbacker guitars. They were fantastic.

Me and my 13 year old buddy were dropped off by my parents in the parking lot at Capital Centre in Largo, MD for this general admission(!) show. Whew..for a little suburban wannabe gitar player and beginning burnout, this was an adult dose, ya'll!
A couple of months later, the same buddy's cool-ass Mom took us up to Towson State College, above Baltimore to see Pat Travers Band (Go For What You Know Tour, feat. the killer Pat Thrall) and AC/DC on the Highway to Hell Tour!

'66, Paul Revere & The Raiders. Keith Allison opened. He played the guitar behind his head, between his legs and with his teeth, all this was before Hendrix. Mark Lindsay had a ponytail, 1st guy I'd ever seen with a ponytail. All that aside, they were excellent, great players and great showmen and the girls went insane. This is when I got serious about learning to play guitar.

First 'serious' concert I went to must have been either Joe Jackson or Suzanne Vega, with Michael Hedges as her support act.
That would have been around '86 I think.

Joe Jackson was good as ever.
Suzanne vega sounded like on her records, pretty boring performance, but Michael Hedges opening for her totally blew me away! Real shame he passed away to soon

He's still a huge inspiration for me on the flattop!

My first show was Rush "Farewell to Kings Tour" '78-'79 ticket cost was $8.00 and special guest was April Wine ... wow, what a show.

Just a short story to go along with it: When we left the show it was 30 minutes back to our home town my buddy I went to the show with had a '72 Cuda 318 (which was a sweet ride) it was fast as hell and we wanted to get to McDonalds before it closed @11:00 (in our hometown) ... we had a 1/2 hour. So were flyin' down this 2 lane highway @ around a 120MPH and come up on this car in front of us and my buddy starts to go around and it's the State Patrol! We were going so fast that we were overrunning the headlights and didn't see the lights in top of the cruiser. In essence he had to pay some crazy fine and got his a$$ beat by his father when he got home. Later, that summer when drag racing some other dude he totaled the car ... loved those 70's!

BTW~ we never made it to McDonalds

My older brother & sister picked my twin bro & I up early from 3rd grade and we went to the old Greenville Memorial Auditorium and saw Three Dog Night with Brownsville Station opening up for them.

In the time of real "general seating", we waited in the lobby until they sprang open those doors and we ran like heck to be the first ones at the stage! We stood with arms on stage for the whole night. What an experience! The Dogs were so tight as a band and lyrically, well,... no need to explain if you don't already know. It had all the big surf bands at the time, and many local Florida bands like the Tropics, as well as the Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels who absolutely blew me away! Mine was in the same venue 12 years later. I saw The Cars in 1979 at the Civic Center. A friend's mom heard the tickets go on sale, stopped by and happened to get some. The venue was so small that the tix sold out in 30 minutes. It was an awesome concert because there were no bad seats in the Civic Center. Unfortunately, if it doesn't have 20k seats, bands don't want to play there anymore.

Allman Brothers Band, Trenton (New Jersey) Speedway, October 1973...what an awakening
there were riots, hells angels riding around the race track, people on the roof of the wooden grandstand throwing bottles. Riot cops went up there and there was a huge fight on the roof. People climbing a 40 foot fence and having liquor bottles thrown at them when the show was stopped due to them being up there...

Ah, the memories....LONG LIVE ROCK

Great thread, makes me feel not quite so old

My first big concert was the Clash in Milwaukee in the early 80's; unfortunately the sound was horrible and it was shortly after Mick Jones was kicked out so it could have been better. The funny thing was that Frank Sinatra was playing next door at the same time so the parking lot scene was pretty funny.

To be honest, my first official concert was not the Aerosmith show my older brother took me to at the Spectrum in the early 90s, that's what I usually tell people.

My actual first was an Elton John concert at the Cap Center in Maryland with my older female cousin. I was about 13 or 14, she was about 19 or 20, and I was visiting her family in Arlington, VA. Turns out she had plans, and an extra ticket, to see Elton John with a group of her friends, who were all big fans...I wasn't a fan, so I certainly wasn't looking forward to it, until I saw her group of friends, one in particular.

Obviously, none of these college girls had the slightest interest in me, nor should they, but I was on my 'coolest' behavior, ("I play guitar, ever hear of Stevie Ray Vaughn") and doing the math in my head all night..."when I'm 18, she'll be 24, hopefully she's not married by then and I'll have a shot". Though I vowed to, I never saw her again, but she was hot.

As far as the concert, it was good I guess.

Kiss Alive tour, 75 or 76, Charlotte NC, the old horrible-sounding coliseum

Was on crutches, had to be carried inside. Outside on the street, there were all these cop cars with lights flashing, no one at the time knew what was going on. Found out later, some poor loaded teenager walked into traffic, got hit, and got killed.

Simmons and Stanley were apparently moved by the event to an extent, and wrote a song about it, which became Detroit Rock City... I guess charlotte rock city didnt have the same appeal

Technically, the first "concert" was Black Sabbath - 1982 w/ Dio on vocals

A few years prior, my uncle took me to see the original Beatlemania on Broadway, so that seemed a lot like a "concert" to the 11 year old that I was.

Both of these early experiences caused me to immediately become hooked on live music.

I tend to think it was a concert at Elkhart,Indiana's Northside Gym. Garry Lewis and the Playboys(This diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore) with The Buckinghams, with my mom and some family. My first "concert" was Jimmy Buffett with a slightly older female friend next door, I was about 18. I have seen my dad play music, even in night clubs, since I was about 13. I remember sitting up on the railing by the soundboard in a bar in West Virginia while my dad played on stage. The drinks the waitresses gave me were called "racecar drivers",non alchoholic "screwdrivers".

One of my first concerts as an engineer stepping up from the club scene to the outdoor summer festivals was around 96' or 97' running monitors for The Buckinghams.

One of the first was about 1971/72 in the student cafeteria on the Indiana-Purdue Regional Campus at Fort Wayne (I’d guess a “student body” of about 1,000?) with the tables and chairs pushed back out of the way. It was free to any student with an activity card to come hear Genesis playing their two most recent albums “Nursery Crimes” and “Foxtrot.” (Ah, Peter Gabriel in costume for “Supper’s Ready!”) The small crowd of probably +200 folks, myself included, thought it was one of those “lifetime” memories. They came back and played “Lamb Lies Down” at the local Army Reserve Armory the next year or so.

Other early concerts: CTA and Three-Dog Night at the Ft. Wayne Memorial Coliseum, the Eagles opening for Yes’ “Close to the Edge” tour at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, Carlos Santana opening for Frank Zappa on Mother’s Day in Detroit, Return to Forever in a small old movie theater (the Embassy) in the Fort.

Orange Colored Sky opening for Burt Bacharach at the Dane County Coliseum, must've been 1970. (had to look up Orange Colored Sky the band to figure it out).

My father was a materials buyer for his company, and back then, there were a lot of perks to that. So one of the sellers took our family out to a fairly posh dinner and the concert.

Oddly, my mother preferred Orange Colored Sky to Burt. Odd, given that her musical tastes ran to Pietro Dero and Rafael Mendez.

$5 to get in, medium sized club, the opening acts were REO Speedwagon and Jethro Tull.

Not only my first concert, but in retrospect probably the best one I ever attended.

Lucky son of a gun!

I've seen some incredible ones (Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, Steppenwolf) but I can't even remember what was the First concert I went to. I was seated in concert halls watching symphonic music and god knows what all else at age 8 and concerts of all sorts just started happening and gradually evolved. Bands playing in open air venues, State Fairs, local taverns were we slipped in the back door.

I guess the Beach Boys/Buffalo Springfield/Soul Survivors was the first big one I attended with no adult supervision at all. $ 3.00?

I saw the Byrds one time with Clarence White and swear I was sober and yet I remember almost nothing. Sucks. I remember Roger, and the bandstand faced South in the old hockey facility. Everybody else's hair was dark I guess.
Man, I hate this not remembering.

My first concert must have been the same tour:

Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Whitesnake (before they went 'pop')

It was in a 2,000 seat theater (Rochester, NY Auditorium theater). Very cool. We were in the blacony and it felt like 100 degrees. We took our shirts off! Not to look cool but to feel cool.
