I just bought a Standard 240 head and can't find anything about this amp-years it was made, horsepower, operating ohms, anything. So someone please help with this info I need.
This old girl sat a pawnshop I go in and look to see if they have any good deals. I haven't made a trip in there in around one year and this head was sitting there back then. They had her marked at $129.99. Got them to cut the price to $100 with no sales tax. Plugged her into a Marshall 4X12 cab and after seeing she stills works fine I brought her home.
fstempleton November 20th, 2010, 08:20 PM I used to have a ca. 1976 [bought new] Peavey Musician 400 head and a 4x12" ported cabinet. My recollection is that the Standard head of similar vintage was rated at 100 or 120 watts, probably against a 2 ohm load. Loud, solid cleans, and probably takes pedals well. If you're looking at a 35yo amp, don't be surprised if the power transistors have been replaced, or will soon need replacing, but old Peavey's are well built and darn near bulletproof. Parts should still be available if you have a good amp tech or are handy yourself.

goinpostal November 29th, 2010, 08:15 PM Mine's rated at 60-70 watts RMS@8 ohms and 120 watts RMS@4 ohms. Emailed Peavey and found out mine was shipped february 1972 which was the last year for the Standard 240.
If you want some good general info on Peavey get the book The Peavey Revolution. At the end of the book everything Peavey ever made is chronicled from 1965-2005. The list doesn't mention what year certain products were dropped-just the year each product was introduced to the music market.
I bought four Carvin GT12 speakers to make 2 2x12 cabs to use with my Peavey head. Two are 16 ohms and two are 8 ohms. The 16s are going to be wired parallel and the 8s are going to be wired series for a total of 5.3 ohms. Not quite 4 ohms but close enough
Sandia Man November 30th, 2010, 09:37 AM I just got a 1975 Deuce II this past weekend from a guy on craigslist, it's a beast, 110 watts, four 6l6's, heavy as heck, loud as heck too. I fell in love with this amp the second I tried it
Good to hear about that book -- the Peavey Revolution -- I will have to find a copy and look this up -- there were several Deuce's, but I haven't found much info online about this specific model
hshight December 20th, 2010, 10:42 PM 1974 "The Classic" 4x10 owner here, my first amp, still have it. I fully expect that I'll have to shoot it one day to kill it, it just keeps going......older Peavey stuff, made is MS, is very tough. Nice speakers, not sure who made them, but they are horseshoe magnet AlNiCo with the aluminum dust covers with the holes. I think I read Jerry Garcia liked these speakers. They sound great with my Bandmaster head when wired to 4 ohms, swap them to 16 ohms and they sound great with the Marshall! Soon to try them with the VHT Special 6 and the Musicmaster Bass amp! I also owned a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400, a 240 watt SS true stereo amp (two power amps, totally separate but combinable with built in chorus), that thing was LOUD and really sounded pretty good when you slam the input with a compressor with the output way up. The "saturation" fuzz circuit was useless, IMHO.

Beachbum May 20th, 2011, 01:40 PM Here's mine. Bought her new and gigged her for many years. She now sports a set of Texas Heat speakers and sounds as good as the day I bought her.

Looks like she's had a knob transplant, as well?

She had a missing one. I love everything about Peavey except maybe the knobs. Decided on using Fenders instead.
djfick May 21st, 2011, 09:06 AM I have a 4x12 Peavy cabinet that dates to 1973. My head is a 100W Marshall MOSFET, though.
hshight May 22nd, 2011, 02:11 PM I'm hoping to see some 1960's stuff here. Oldest I've ever seen is early 1970's.
oldmark July 7th, 2012, 01:05 PM Recently got a Peavey Vintage 2x12 100 watt combo amp from 1975. Great amp-my only tube amp...I have 4 other Peavey amps, all old SS from the '80's.
I can't seem to find anything better for 3 or 4 times the money, so I no longer bother to look. I love old Peavey US made amps and guitars and basses. Great and underappreciated...and still a bargain.
