caliban335 November 12th, 2010, 01:42 PM I was surprised to see there was no club for the JD Tele, so I'll start one. This is a "MADE IN JAPAN" model with no serial number on the neck heel. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the grain shows through nicely. The pickups are OK and a previous owner replaced the JD wiring with a standard 3-way. I'm going to play it for a while before deciding what to do, if anything, about the pickups and wiring.
Is there any way to date these without pulling the neck?

grguitar November 13th, 2010, 11:51 AM I bought one of these (MIJ) in the early nineties, & gigged it pretty hard. Had it refretted with medium jumbos & never felt right afterwards, so I sold it.
Loved the switching scheme.
Flewis November 13th, 2010, 11:58 AM I currently have a US JD model, a made in Japan model, and the Omniac that peavey sells - The tele's I left alone, the omniac I kept the bridge pick up but swapped in a mini humbucker in the neck
Tele295 November 13th, 2010, 12:05 PM BAM! - I'm there. I'll have to post some pictures of my blue JD later
jdan November 18th, 2010, 07:21 PM Hey, I have a 94 custom shop JD in beautiful birdseye sunburst in mint condition that I'm getting ready to list for sale. Not sure how much to ask though. Any imput? tweed case a John Page signed cert.
Thanks,
J Dan
caliban335 November 19th, 2010, 07:13 PM There's one up for sale on eBay right now with a $1,600 BIN. I don't know whether that's a reasonable price, but it's a data point. Does yours have the original JD wiring? That might make a difference, as so many people rip out that wiring for a standard three way.
Tele295 November 19th, 2010, 07:47 PM Here's some info provied to me on another forum. JD "Dona-blue" is actually color code 527: sapphire blue transparent. Beautiful color on my JD
ITSGOTQUACK April 15th, 2011, 02:29 AM I have a 94-95 MIJ. Anyone want it? Hit me up if you do. It's dead mint.

A 97 US, JD0350, bought used ten years ago, the best neck in the world IMHO :)
caliban335 March 1st, 2012, 03:27 PM I liked the first JD Tele so much I bought a second and had it modified with pickups from Zhangbucker. The 5-way wiring is a little different:
bridge
bridge & middle
bridge & neck
neck & middle
neck
The necks on these things are awesome, but I wish the frets were a little bigger.
