What music do you listen to while building?

Do you have music going in your shop? What do you listen to?

Right now, for me it's a mix of spaghetti western soundtracks and Brad Paisley.

While I like plenty of harder stuff too, Van Halen and AC/DC just don't seem to sound good for while working on a tele.

I actually listen to talk radio, because I find the music distracting.

Depends if my 5 year old son is keeping me company or not. He is partial to vintage Kraftwerk and the Yardbirds. Me, it's Barry White to Buck Owens and everything in between.

Brad Paisley's 5th Gear album. It used to be because it was the only CD I had out there. Now its become tradition

+1
If the laptop is nearby, however, I fire up the Itunes, usually Hellecasters or praise music, or Brian Setzer stuff. Other than that it's usually the sound of my wife's 4 Girl Scout troops, as my work area is in the back of the area she has her meetings in, and I spend my time on those nights working on the toys, and entertaining the girls with stupid jokes etc...

A 5-year-old Kraftwerk fan... will wonders never cease?

Count me among those who find music distracting; the gentle buzz of the fluorescent lights and an occasional bad word are my soundtrack while building.

No music. I talk to the squirrels and ducks that wander in and out looking for a hand out, and the cats that wander in and out looking for squirrels and ducks.

My 2,000+ CD collection is in the garage. Of course I listen to music

Anything from Zep to Aerosmith to Uncle Ted to Kraftwerk to Ramones to Larry Coryell to Neil Young to even the occasional film score. My musical interest is pretty W I D E

I find that music dosn't interfere with what I'm doing - it relaxes me. Heck, I even listen to music at work.

The soundtrack to my memories of 6 months driving around Oz. The best radio station I've heard anywhere. Maybe I need an internet radio in the garage...

I really don't work with inspiration unless I listen to music. Plus, although I play blues/jazz 90% of the time when I'm playing the guitar - I listen to anything but blues most of the time when I'm not playing guitar.

I listen to a lot of Paganini lately - that is not the silly neo-classical gear head stuff...:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPcnGrie__M The harmonic movement in Paganini's music is amazing.

I also listen to a lot of Vivaldi too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N00XKtROddc - again - I think I'm addicted to the harmonies - what Vivaldi does with minor 3rds and 2nds is really awesome without being unapproachable.

I also listen to a lot of Chris Tomlin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQI5wxtH6OY and tons of Phil Keaggy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WCX1iYGqsQ

I think I listen to Brent Mason (who may be one of the greatest guitarists out there today), Howard Roberts and Joe Pass at least half the time I'm building.

And, lately I've been listening to all of the stuff I can down load from YouTube by our fellow forum member Tim Lerch and convert to MP3s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4I5tN9_Mrc - It's crazy that he does not have a CD out - he's awesome! I got to listening to Tim Lerch because I really like to listen to Ted Greene while I build too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXwmNN8t0KQ Ted Greene's style is not quite what I would listen to all the time, but the chordal melodies he comes up with are great.

Also I listen to a lot of our fellow forum member Redd Volkaert too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY8AFtlAykA Man I miss being able to go to Austin Tx once in a while - I used to live in Houston and it was not that far away...

I just put in some ear plugs, crank the ipod and pipe it into some old compute speakers I have in the Garage. I'm not sure what the neighbors think of my choices, but I think the ROSS and my table saw drown the music out when I'm using them.

Depends on what I am working on. Lots of country from Brad Paisley and Keith Urban to Chet Atkins and Tom T. Hall. Blues from BB the King to Seasick Steve and Ronnie Baker Brooks. Lots of 70's classics and 80's hair bands. Even some heavy metal once in a while when I'm home alone. But if I need to concentrate, silence is golden.

I enjoy the sweet music of the table saw ripping, planer planing, chop saw chopping, router routing, sander sanding, and mainly me cussing... Beautiful music!

Unknown is my hero. He inspires me to write bad country music ever time I travel and find myself in a cheap motel. Something about itchy beds, busted door jams and chain locks that just makes me want to compose.....

I have permanent hearing loss from too many Ramones shows when I was a youngster. Johnny should have just ordered his Marshall heads with just on and off switches as everything was always set at 10 anyway. Gotta love the Ramones.

I have eclectic taste in music. I usually let my iPod shuffle through the 4000+ songs I have on it. But last night I was in a Chris Thile and Punch Brothers mood. I like Brazilian Choro music at times. Some times I just put on an acoustic guitar mix, other times I let it play ambient background music.

Yeah, eclectic.

Pandora set on my "Zac Brown Band" seeded station.

I get everything from pop country to Van Morrison and The Band, to first-wave reggae, to Sam & Dave and old soul. It's perfect for working in the shop.
