Jethro October 17th, 2010, 12:00 PM I used to play one 20 odd years ago but had it stolen....saw one in a shoppe the other day and considering grabbing it.
I can't say I've ever seen anyone playing these

I haven't played a Marauder, but the lead from my favorite band, Mac McCaughan from Superchunk plays one. Supposedly his guitar was smashed by Paul Stanley of Kiss in 1978.
I've thought about getting one just because he plays them. But then there's old TDPRI thread (http://www.tdpri.com/forum/other-guitars-other-instruments/220276-any-gibson-marauder-owners-here.html) about Marauders that doesn't exactly sing its praises.
teleforumnoob October 18th, 2010, 02:16 PM Somewhere out there is one that I had 30 yrs ago.
Great guitar that I got cheap, but it had a not so great broken headstock repair that bugged me so I sold it.
If another came along cheap Id snap it up. Loved the pickups in that thing!

teleforumnoob October 18th, 2010, 03:05 PM Dang, think I paid $150 for mine in 76.

I found a pic of an old guitar player who used to be famous playing in another old timer's band, and playing a Marauder...
Mick Taylor, playing with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings...Old Stones still rolling.

Mick Taylor is one superb guitarist.

I'll buy it from you right now. I collect Marauders and S-1's. P.M. Me
ITSGOTQUACK November 7th, 2010, 12:04 AM Easily one of the best sounding guitars out there, no doubt about it. Especially if they are the models with the blend control instead of the 3 way toggle.
Jethro November 9th, 2010, 07:10 PM Mine had the three way, but the blend control idea sounds great. I tended to use the neck pu most of the time
refin November 9th, 2010, 07:41 PM (Frampton used one in the Sgt. Pepper Movie)..........
MonkeyJefferson November 9th, 2010, 07:49 PM I had one before the Earth cooled, kinda beige-colored, with the crazy dial thingie. They were cheap and abundant in my early music store scrounging days. Nothing special, sound or play-wise, that I personally recall, but cool LOOKING, anyway.
allen082 November 19th, 2010, 11:21 AM picked this one up at a garage sale a couple of years ago, and then turned around and sold it last year. really regretting it. that neck was freakin amazing....

ghobii December 12th, 2010, 07:51 PM Still have mine since I got it for my 13th birthday back in 77. Just finished refinishing it for the 3rd time. This time I also replaced the pickups and the rest of the electrics. I love the neck and the look, but not the sound not so much. I put a P-Rails in the neck and a JB jr in the bridge. It's definitely an improvement though I'll probably still continue experimenting.

Although I've never played one myself, and have read a TON of "anti-praise" for the Marauder guitar - I've always kinda dug it and wanted one!
cyclopean December 12th, 2010, 11:26 PM i've never laid hands on one, but harvey milk makes one sound pretty fantastic.
ITSGOTQUACK April 15th, 2011, 02:25 AM If anybody rolls thour here anytime with one to sell, hit me up. I want all of them with the blend controls, not the toggle switch. Plus, S-1's, Corvus III's and Challenger III's. Thanks. All original only.

"I found a pic of an old guitar player who used to be famous playing in another old timer's band, and playing a Marauder..."
not trying to be confrontational...hard to tell from the jpg you linked to, but that looks more like an S1 model than a marauder to me. three single coils, and even looks like the chicken head pick up selector. if the truth were told, gibson's answer to the strat, with one big multicoil humbucker in three locations, according to bill lawrence who designed the axe pickups/circuit. one variation had dark plastic poured in the mold over the windings, looks to be that'n on my screen.
i like the way these sound mobetter'n the fender strats from the same era.
Gibsocaster!

mitchfit September 24th, 2011, 11:28 AM ITSGOTQUACK,
you have any doubles in any of the various 4-way[only] S1 offerings you'd care to part with?

rockinstephen April 14th, 2013, 11:01 PM I had one sometime around 1990. It had a mahogany body with an unbound maple neck. It had Bill Lawerence pickups with the blender control - a cool feature. A couple of the fret ends were really sharp - not good for a Gibson. I replaced every bit of chrome hardware with gold. I probably should have left it alone. These guitars sometimes got a bad rap because of the bolt on neck. I sold it after awhile...
