that is so sharp and ice picky that it spends most of its life sitting on the stand? It's a MIJ '62 reissue with the bound edges and sunburst finish. The neck pup is O.K. but the bridge one is the problem. The stock pup was replaced with a SD Broadcaster which turned ot to be the same way. We are stymied with this axe. Any suggestions? Could the pots be at fault? It's an alder body with a rosewood neck. Any other pickup choices that might tame this monster? Any help greatly appreciated.

Lower the pickup until it mellows out. Use nickel wound strings. Back off on the tone a touch, and the amp settings to compensate.

You could experiment with different pots and/or different capacitor values on your tone control. If you're handy with a soldering iron, this is easy and inexpensive.
If you don't feel comfortable working on it yourself, there are lots of good repair-guys around. Where in Ontario are you? Perhaps I know of a good tech in your neighborhood.

Get some darker sounding p/ups... I know people here have described certain ones as being that way... mayhap that would solve some of the issues...
New caps, as was suggested, would be a good try...

Those guitars have the steel saddles, right? Try brass.

Maybe we won't sell her after all and will try some new pots etc.

What are the stock values for the pots in that thing? Would I be surprised in the least if you found 1Meggers?
