Started my Esquire build and i have a couple of Bills 298TL's here and i will put one into the Bridge position and i have ordered a few Qfilters today for other projects as well. I will mess about with a few wiring options and see what comes up best to my ears. A few things i want to try of my own and a few tried and true methods. I will report back as i progress, the body shouldnt be far off so i can get to work wiring this thing up.
Anybody worked a few angles on the Esquire with this setup that they are happy with? i have thought of most options inc push pull switching as well as different cap values on the switch, seeing as i have a box of different caps here of many different values.
Any advice would be most welcome.

I would try using the inductance-filtering wiring (without the cap) on one of the settings, using a 25 kOhm resistor, so you can emulate a lesser-inductance (sweeter sounding) pickup without getting any of the ice-pick or harshness. I'd also try doing the EQ wiring with a .001 microFarad cap... it's exact effect will vary with your cable, but the resonance would land somewhere between 1.6 and 2.0 kHz and lower the highs above, which enables what is generally a very desirable range of adjustment with a bridge pickup. You can of course try values used with a more traditional tone control setup but I don't generally find those nearly as useful.

Note: Those numbers take into account the inductance of the L298TL and assume a cable capacitance of at least 228 pF (12ft of Bill's low capacitance cable) and at most 1000 pF (a rather high-capacitance commercial cable, but not unheard of). If you had half the inductance, you would need twice the capacitance. Add all the capacitances together and plug it into the equation for finding resonances in an LCR circuit, once you know the pickup inductance. Bill's Tele lead pickup inductance values were posted by surfco here:

Here's the equation for finding the frequency of the resonance effect when combining inductance and capacitance:

Thanks Derek
All my cable here, well i make my own out of the best parts available, and although i believe cable plays a part in the overall tone i am not convinced that once its equated with pickups caps resistors and an amplifier of varying types that these old tinitus ears are going to notice that much haha.
Thanks for all that information i will wire up a few plates with some different ideas including the 001 and even a tonestyler i have here in my parts bin in one. Somwhere along the way something will say yeah thats me. I will start doing some diagrams and see what ideas i can scavenge out of all that info.
I just finished wiring up my baritone build 2 tone 1 vol strat type using some homemade no load 500k pots a tonestyler a vintage .033 cap and a 4 way switch and it hit the spot 1st cab off the rank, so you never know your luck.
