My table saw is one investment that was worth way more than I paid for it. The quality of my woodworking increased ten fold after I bought a quality table saw. It increased again after buying a quality jointer.

Those are some good looking acrylic templates by the way.

i've been remaking body, neck, fretboard and pickup route templates this week with this plexiglass, the edges sand smoother than my old wood templates, i cant wait to try them out

End of an era; CNC can't be far behind. :-)

I'd say the table saw, router, drill press, and jointer are the most used tools in my garage. Jointer you can get away with not having, but the drill press I've used probably 3x as often as the others.

Sure you can, just go in 1/2 from each side, I clamp the template on the back and use a center punch through the template holes to mark the centers, and use the points larger to smaller on the bits...

My old Tawain drill press helped me make a mess on the 1st one I tried going through ala registration bit method.

Scatter, take a look at this thread http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/155816-drilling-string-through-body.html . It shows some simple drill press mods that may make it possible to do string thru ferrals with your drill press. John

I use my drill press with a stewmac caul insert epoxyd into a block of maple, to press my frets in. I've had much more consistent results this way.

Now you can get a robosander and a wasp sander (I think it's called a wasp sander??? Go go gadget google!).

I use a Wagner safe T planer in my drill press too. It's BARELY fast enough to work properly, but it makes some jobs super easy. I mostly use it to plane headstock faces. I also like it for flattening pieces of wood that are too small to clean up with my jack plane...

I used to make excuses that I needed better tools; but after seeing your threads my excuses were shredded to sawdust! Can't wait to see what you'll do with this drill press...

Ps: where can I learn more about your plexiglass templates? Did you get the material from Lowes? I don't know if I've found it thick enough...

never thought of using it for frets when i got it

ordered a robosander the other day

forgot about the safe t planer thing, might have to try that too, 3000 rpm enough?

i have a shopsmith mark v but it's in parts in storage, heck of a drill press and jointer on that, i'll get that thing out someday

the plexiglass was a dumpster find, it was a bookshelf in a store, or held donuts or jellybeans or something, check behind your local malls, they throw that stuff away when they remodel, never seen it that thick for sale in a store
