Hello, I'm new to using guitar forums and need help with some info about my taiwan made yamaha 120 sd. mine just has the 3d yamaha logo on the head stock and a serial # of LY06001. A yamaha serial# dater I found online says it's the 6th month or either 86 96 or 06 and the first run of the production. Mine is black but i've seen the plain woodgrain ones also. And does anybody know the difference between this model and the models that have the Pacifica lettering and the yamaha logo the on the headstock? Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

From your description I'm guessing it's a '96.

Got pix?

Hi, it looks just like this one. I'm waiting for mine to be shipped to me. I just won it on ebay. Paste this link into your browser and you can see pics of the actual guitar I'm talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120621750647&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Thanks!

That would be the mid-90s model.

Sold quite a few when I worked for a Yamaha dealer back then.

These came out as they were beginning to thin out the Pacifica line.

The other PAC Tele styles from the time that featured the logo you reference had single coils and a pickguard, giving them more of traditional look.

They also had a budget Mike Stern model around that time.

I always thought that entire line was great; the model you have was on my "buy it if you see it cheap" list for a long time. I always thought it would be a great, solidly built guitar to try out new pickups and other crazy mods on.
