Tophat switch tip question

Is a tophat switch tip supposed to fit only to the first shoulder of the control arm ? Seems high to me, maybe for ease of grabbing it?

That's it. Looks right to me.

If it went on much further, it wouldn't allow the switch to fully engage the other two positions.

Brings me to a question I've been having : I bought parts to assemble into a PartsEsquire ( the one in my profile pic ) , I got a AVRI 62 Custom Tele body and switch plate, etc. pretty much everything that's on a 62 RI but the pickguard and neck. I also bought two top hat switches, but I can't seem to fit them on the tip.:shock: It's supposed to be interchangeable right ? You're supposed to be able to use either ,but only the barrel model fits... and the hardware comes from a 62 ( I think )... Any thoughts on that ??? :?:

I like the little round switch tip better for this very reason, when I get to strummin' hard, it never fails I hit the top hat tips every time!

There are USA-spec switch tips and import metric switch tips (both top hat and barrel styles) and they don't interchange. If your switch is a CRL or an Oak-Grigsby, you need the USA-spec tip.

eBay. Came in the genuine Fender little clear plastic box with the black cardboard inside of it. One was broken on the inside, but the other one looks fine. Just can't fit it... it's not a big problem ,I used a barrel, but I've always wondered why.
