Trout September 20th, 2010, 05:42 PM Just thought I'd share my latest project. It's 14"x20" made from 3/4 pine (sides) and house siding (slats) with the simulated wood grain turned inside. It's held together with glue and stainless grabber screws. The paint is just sloppy rattle can from the "paint" shelf in the mud room. I figure it will hold 10-12 pedals depending on size and config. I'll put the velcro and pedals on tonight, hopefully. If it weren't for the dang velcro, it would have been a very cheap project.

silentechoes September 20th, 2010, 06:31 PM very nice. I wish mine had come out that well.
Ringo September 20th, 2010, 11:16 PM please post more pics as it progresses, velcro, pedals installed etc...

I took a few pics with the board populated, but the lighting sucked and I was not satisfied with the pics. I have subsequently gone back to my smaller 7"x20" board (also from scraps), I put the 14"x20" pedal board on craigslist, and I am trying to keep my pedal collection to five or six good ones.
On a "sort of related" topic, I can see where pedal collecting can quickly get out of hand... like WAY out of hand. I need to spend more time practicing guitar and less time ripping boards on my saw to make bigger pedal boards to hold larger collections of pedals that add a large level of distraction to actually playing the guitar well.

Eh, post the pics anyway. The board really came out nice! I couldn't agree more about the collecting getting out of hand, but at least I can say I play/practice a good hour or two each and every day, so I can justify, I just can't afford. Nice work!
Kevin Wilson September 27th, 2010, 10:01 PM Very nice!

Here you go... with and without a crappy flash. I'm afraid my board might host some of those "never use again" pedals from the other thread in this forum. I sold the Tube Screamer today.

RubyRae September 28th, 2010, 09:32 PM Looks great Trout. That is the new smaller one right? Or is that the first one...?
Curious what you got for it on craigslist? Hopefully someone at least appreciated that nice board!

It's the big one, the same as pictured in the first post. My smaller one is exactly half as deep.
It's still on craigs. I didn't know what to ask so I threw $40 on there hoping for an offer. I've since dropped it to $30.
Larry F September 28th, 2010, 10:56 PM That's beautiful. One of the best I've seen.

Heck I would just keep it before you give it away. You may want to use it later down the road, or find someone who could appreiate it more. Plus the simple fact that it was you 'prototype' first model. If you can't get 25 or 30, I'd say keep it for now.
Flatfoot September 29th, 2010, 11:40 PM Looks great Trout! I like your design a lot! Forgive me if I'm in any way hi-jacking your thread, but this DIY pedalboard thing is a lot of fun, and I'd like to share my latest project with you and the others on the forum:
It's a mini-board I made out of scraps last night. It's only 15 1/2" X 9", but I've been needing something really small to accomodate 4-6 stomp boxes, as many of the churches where my wife and I play and sing have very little stage area available so space is often limited.
I haven't even painted it yet as you can see. The white slats are made of solid plastic - it's left-over outside corner trim from our house construction materials. I just don't know how well it will take paint, so I may leave it white.
I'm using a One Spot to power the pedals. It's pretty basic, but I think it will work out well for me. I'm planning to add a delay pedal soon (probably a Carbon Copy) and then I will be pretty well set for what I do. Right now the board has a Hardwire tuner, MXR Supercomp, Monte Allums modded Blues Driver (H2O Plus), and Monte Allums modded DS1 (Roxx Tri-Gain Plus) on it.

Flatfoot October 3rd, 2010, 06:06 AM Thanks Trout! Since I posed these pictures I have painted the wooden parts flat black - left the plastic white parts as is.
I'm not normally that much of a do-it-yourself kind of guy, but after pricing pedalboards I decided that for an hour or so of my time it would be worth knocking something out myself. It also gave me an excuse to fire-up the table saw!
Trout October 3rd, 2010, 03:13 PM Here's my smaller pedal board... also made from scraps. This is the one I'm using. I'm going to limit myself to 5 pedals for now. Well, actually 6 pedals, the Holy Grail reverb sits on the shelf next to my AC4TVH and that pedal is permanent as long as I have an amp without a reverb tank.

forgivenick October 5th, 2010, 10:44 AM I like yours a lot. It looks really good. If you can bear to screw into the top, I totally recommend fastening your pedals with bike chain links. I tried zip ties too, but the links are an awesome method. Here is my diy pedal board how to article on my blog:

Thanks for the tip, but my board sits in my studio. I don't move it around and the pedals stay put just fine. Besides, I change things around way too often to be messing with screws or zip ties.

I ended up trading the larger board (the pics in the first post) plus some pedals I wasn't using anymore for a Fender Champion 600.
This champ is no stage amp, but I think it's got the best bedroom volume level clean tone of any of my amps (Vox AC4 and Peavey C30). It's like now I have a whole new world of tones to discover with pedals in front of this thing. It has actually cured my new pedal habit for at least the next 48 hours.
