single coil- humbucker lineups on recordings

I've noticed a phenomenon (which I'm sure is utterly common) that when I've been playing my mini-humbucker Gretsch a while and then switch to my strat, I think to myself "I can't stand this tinny, thin, trebly sound!" On the other hand, if I've been playing my strat and I switch to my Gretsch, I think to myself "I can't stand this dull, thuddy, boxy sound." It goes away after a couple of minutes, but it set me thinking- are there bands who have recordings where leads are swapped between single coil and humbucker guitars? If so, is the change jarring or pleasant (or cleaned up in post production)? I would be especially interested in clean-ish guitars, or at least ones that are not so distorted that they don't SOUND like themselves. I can't think of an example off the top of my head, but I bet the brain trust here can!
