A guy and his fiancee are taking a stroll when they hear a street performer doing a fantastic cover of Unchained Melody. They ask if they can book him for their wedding and are thrilled to find out he has just completed an album of original love songs AND he's a justice of the peace and can perform the ceremony. The big day comes and his originals are uniformly horrible and their wedding is a disaster. So always remember - you can't book a judge by his cover.

I developed an ear ache over the weekend. E-mailed the doctor and he said go to the Redi-clinic at the grocery store. I thought they just gave flu shots, but they actually treat stuff like ear aches. Still hurts today but getting better and thanks to the trip we're having Cornish Game Hens tonight. Don't get those at a Doctor's office. They might have something there. Maybe GC should consider it.

I know I could just google it, but what proportions do I need for the aforementioned martini?

chezdeluxe
March 3rd, 2012, 01:58 PM
Well Hoodie just start with equal parts of Chilled Vodka (or Gin if you prefer) and Chilled Extra Dry Vermouth. You can mix them in a cocktail shaker or a jug with some ice to get it colder, but strain the ice out or the Martini becomes water diluted. Add 3 olives on a toothpick. It must be three. I am in complete accord with Mike on this. See how you like it.

If you don't like it try again until you get the proportions right for you.

How "Dry" a Martini is reflects how much you reduce the amount of Vermouth in the mix. A very, very, very Dry Martini is only given a fleeting glance at the label on the Extra Dry Vermouth bottle.

There is no absolute right or wrong here, just personal preference which you can determine for yourself by experimentation..... And that can be a lot of fun.

tgfmike
March 3rd, 2012, 08:04 PM
Equal parts vodka and vermouth would be way too much vermouth for me. A teaspoon of vermouth to about 2 ounces of vodka is more like it, although that's a little 'wet' for some.

chezdeluxe
March 3rd, 2012, 08:33 PM
Mike my preference is for Gin martinis. 2 Parts Gin to 1 Part Extra Dry Vermouth. I also like almond stuffed olives in mine.

It's all a matter of taste.

Originally, Martini's were made with gin, so a vodka Martini is kind of a kludge. I've never had a gin Martini.

When I'm lazy I just pour Stoli over crushed ice and toss in the 3 olives, which really isn't a Martini at all, I suppose.

They have a pretty good life. One owns the rocking chair and the other spends the day on the back of the livingroom couch. We look like hoarders with old sheets and bedspreads thrown all over the furniture. The only time we uncover it is if someone comes over or we take pictures. Most of the time all we see is their butts cause they spend all day looking out the front window for the mailman or cats crossing the yard. Cool dogs though. Wandering in the chaos the battle has left,
We climb up the mountain of human flesh,
To a plateau of green grass, and green trees full of life.
A young figure sits still by a pool,
He's been stamped "Human Bacon" by some butchery tool.
Social Security took care of this lad.
We watch in reverence, as Narcissus is turned to a flower.

Not exactly the custom shop but close. They are called The American Design Series and I bought an HSS Strat because I wanted one with a humbucker. At the Corona store they have a room with all the parts laid out, rack of bodies, rack of necks, rack of pickguards and PUPs, so you pick and choose and they assemble, setup and ship. Guess it is like built to order that dome manufacturers offer. Any way this is what I got and I love that combination of PUPS. Alder body, flamed maple neck.

For rum, I like Gosling's and Mt. Gay

chezdeluxe

As a Queenslander, Simon, I have grown up on Bundaberg Rum. Years ago the raw overproof rum was supplied to a number of wholesalers who broke it down with their own water and bottled it under licence. Thus you could buy Bundy bottled by companies (typically the large pastoral houses) such as Burns Philp, Dalgety, Walter Reid, Winchcobe Carson and Condon's. All of those bottlings had a slightly different flavour. I think that system folded in the 1980s and the rum is now one consistent flavour.

The best Bundy rum was to be found (probably still is) at The Burnett Club, the "Gentleman's Club" in Bundaberg. They had a special supply from the distillery called "Governor's Choice" Ah Nectar

http://bdcbondstore.bundabergrum.com.au/eCommImages/3/0010000000177.jpg

But I like Mt Gay also.

She went through a complete workup in February for a similar experience she had when we visited California on vacation. At the time no issues and they said she had the arteries of a teenager.

Well seems its an electrical thing and tommorow they are going to plug her in a wall socket and shock her back in synch. That's my read on it. Her rate was ranging from the 110's to the high 140's and she's normally at 60. They gave her some IV meds to lower it but so far it is staying irregular, though down considerably.

Anyway it was a late Saturday night and now it's just me and the dogs for a few days. This is the same thing that Hakeem Olijuwan the Houston Rocket's basketball player had and had and was shocked twice to get it back regular. Not too uncommon of a problem.

Anyway it was a late Saturday night and now it's just me and the dogs for a few days. This is the same thing that Hakeem Olijuwan the Houston Rocket's basketball player had and had and was shocked twice to get it back regular. Not too uncommon of a problem.

Appreciate some Mojo, she's had her fair share of issues over the years and trooper's on saying "This too will pass".

Sorry to hear that TUTM - but it's good to finally have an answer and a solution. Good mojo on it's way to both of you, this sitting round waiting for things to get underway is always the worst part.

Thanks all. Procedure postponed another day while they try and get the heart rate stable. Pretty common problem and the electric shock should reset it. Probably have to take meds but not life threatening if kept under control. Sitting in her room playing with the computer while she sleeps. At least the hospital has a good wifi system.

Well the jolt reset her rate back into the 70's with the ocassional skip but nothing as high as before. They put her on blood thinners for two days and some other meds to reduce the heart rate, but it does not stop the irregular beats. Seems the upper chamber stops beating and the lower chamber has to speed up to keep the blood moving. The thinner is given to rduce the possibility of clots. They put a scope down the throat to take a peek for clots and if clear, they zap the heart with electricity to get the chamber going again.

She has to do blood thinners for a month and give herself shots until they are sure everything is stable. We will be going to the doctor every couple days to get blood work and adjust the meds as needed. Should be off everything in 1 - 2 months.

If it happens again, worst case scenario is they go in through an artery (like an angiogram) and cautorize the electrical feeds to the heart which cause the skips. None is life threatening (except for the clot possibility) and she is a very good candidate for the procedure if needed.

She really felt better today and had a ton more energy. All good. The human body is amazing and scary.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

That's good news - glad to hear she's feeling better, too.

The human body scares the living bejasus out of me...

A few months ago I filled in my swimming pool and last week started on the big makeover of my back garden. July in Brisbane is typically cool, dry with sunny blue skies but not now.

Ah mud, mud glorious mud. Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood.

I'm sure Dallas can cope... Glad to hear she's doing well.

You Aussies whinge about everything. The only nation I can think of where they constantly complain about weather, despite usually having the sort of weather most other countries can dream of. At least us Brits are renowned for poor weather for a reason! Try living over here - 6 weeks ago we had drought conditions. Tomorrow I'm working an outside bar and we're concerned the trailer may sink in the mud! Six weeks of solid bleedin' rain!

Hehehe... I have to snipe about Australians - my brother in law's from the Gold Coast and we tend to spend time winding each other up over national stereotypes. He scared the bejasus out of us when he first hooked up with my sister in law and mentioned that he wanted to buy some thongs for the summer weather.

I have just had a big win on the Saturday night Gold Lotto draw.

My $15.80 investment has turned into $17.55.

This is $17.55 better than any other week over the past 6 years.
