Lynn Anderson on Lawrence Welk. I love it.

According to Wikipedia she was a regular on LW for a couple of years starting in '67.

That's where I first saw her, on spring break in 68 at a girlfriend's house. Her dad always watched Lawrence Welk. And there was Lynn in a cowgirl outfit singing Ride Ride Ride.

That song and several other of her early hits were written by her mom Liz, who had a good solo career in the 60s but is more known for the hit songs she's written for others.

O'Gwynn's highest-peaking single came during his Mercury career, when he reached #7 with "My Name Is Mud." Other hits followed including "Talk To Me Old Lonesome Heart" "House of Blue Lovers" "Easy Money" and "Losing Game."

His "Talk To Me Old Lonesome Heart" was most recently recorded by Larry Stephenson, Marty Stuart and Connie Smith.

O'Gwynn's last professional appearance was at the Llano Country Opry in Llano, Texas.

I was very sad to see this. His daughter posted this (http://thewritersporch.blogspot.com/2011/01/james-ogwynn-house-of-blue-lovers.html) on her blog this evening. She also posted a long tribute (http://thewritersporch.blogspot.com/2009/03/smiling-irishman-of-country-music-james.html) to him on St. Patrick's Day in 2009.

As a friend of mine said, it's a sad day for real country music. He was one of my very favorites.

I just look for new uploads from my YouTube subscriptions. Too many to keep up with all of them but if I know the artist or remember the song, I'll play it. Some of them (like the Warren Smith songs) I already have in my collection. I have a few by Riley Crabtree but not this one. The Lloyd Weaver song is one I remembered hearing as a child. Some real forgotten gems out there.

One of my favorites since I was a kid. I have almost everything he released.

He passed away in January of this year (http://thewritersporch.blogspot.com/2011/01/james-ogwynn-house-of-blue-lovers.html), just short of his 83rd birthday. He had suffered from emphysema.

That was a big hit for George and yet it's almost forgotten today along with the other stuff he did with United Artists (1962-64, between Mercury and Musicor). It was in legal limbo for years. Bear Family finally issued a 5-CD 150-song box set a couple of years ago but you can't buy individual tracks.

Unfortunately the Melba video has the intro and half the first verse cut off. I do have the studio version, I really need to start putting up some of my collection.
