Actually I posted about Jerry Jericho and Frankie Miller earlier in this thread, but with the volume of posts here I can see how you might have missed them.

Smilin' Jerry Jericho was a fixture around Houston when I was growing up. He started out as a singer with Ben Christian's band (before my time) and later took it over when Ben retired. He also helped his nephew Johnny Bush get started.

Here's (http://www.gladmusicco.com/images/JerichoChristianHankWBiffC.jpg) Jerry and Ben with Hank, probably from about 1950.

But I do recall the "moanin" cut because it makes me think of Otis Rush.
Good stuff!

TGF, see if you can find "Brand on My Heart" by Snow. There is one on youtube now, but it's a newer version. The one I have on LP called "The Old and Great Songs" is the one. It's buried some where in my collection or I would youtube it myself (which is likely to happen anyway)

The person who posted the Woodard version on YouTube claims it's the original and that (composer) Henry Strzelecki was his bass player. I don't think either is correct. The story in the blog link says that the Four Flickers did the original, and that Strzelecki and his brother were in that group. And that info came from a 1968 article in Billboard.

I searched for Henry Strzelecki and was surprised. He has been a session bassist on many famous recordings and also played with Johnny Cash's show band for awhile. Don't know if he's still an active studio player but he's on Facebook.

@mckathiki No you haven't, unless maybe you were in a zoo. There are no antelope in the Americas, and no pronghorns are not antelope.

@davidcsgt No there are any antelope in North America, a pronghorn is not an antelope.

@headly66 I've seen antelope here in the west.

@NordicHealer Why do people here continue to attempt to tell me the same thing over and over. There are no antelope in the Americas, I don't care what you call them they are not in the antelope family, not even in the same species.

@headly66 I'm sorry but we have PRONGHORN deer which are a type of American Antelope.

@kristinlukow There are no antelope in the Americas and never have been. Just because someone is misinformed and believes something is something else doesn't make it so, just as the native Americans aren't Indians.

A note about Starday: they were big in the custom pressing business, i.e. vanity pressings. These used many of the same record numbers used by regular Starday artists. For example, Starday 552 was a Cowboy Copas record, but there's a Starday 552 by Lucky Wray that was a custom pressing, i.e. the artist had to pay to have it pressed and released.

Here's (http://www.globaldogproductions.info/s/starday.html) a regular Starday discography. Here's (http://web.mac.com/malcychapman/Starday_Customs/Starday_Intro.html) a site with info on the custom pressings.

This is my favorite song by TNT; Amber does a great version, but this is the one for me. What's funny is that Rhapsody places her music as "country pop, which a lot of it was) but this sounds hard core compared to "new" country.

I am glad to see that "old country" is not dead!! This kind of music is my passion. I love to hear that old telecaster and steel guitar the best, but that bluegrass is pretty darn good, too. Anybody else got some New Old Time Country Bands that they want to share ? I'm listening, good stuff!! Thanks for the Memories!

I miss those kinds of music. I'm into country music too and glad that they still exist.

The Telecaster was his guitar of choice and when I first met him in the early 1970's he was playing a 69 Thinline with mohogany finish. Here is a video of him playing a Tele after the almost fatal car accident[1967].

Wayne Kemp has had a huge career as a Nashville Songwriter and also teamed up with the late Mack Vickery to kick out several big hits during the 1970's and early 1980's. Probably the biggest song written by the duo was "The Fireman" by George Strait.Wayne Kemp also played lead guitar for George Jones in 1965.

Yes me too. As hard as corporate is trying to kill off old country, they won't succeed. Every time I pull a youtube, I'm happy to see in the comments how many fans are missing the old stuff. That's encouraging, as is the amount of people following this thread. Thanks to all.

My favorite one of his songs is "Along Came You" on the Phil's label. That one's not up on youtube but someone has a copy of the single for auction up on ebay.
It has a sound sample. "Along Came You" starts at about 2:40 and its got a great Bakersfield style solo by Wayne. Don't know the seller, I've got a couple of copies of the 45 but they're not for sale.

I have a 45 on the OKC based "Dee-Jay" label by Jim and Joyce James that has some nice Bakersfield style Tele on it. I'm pretty sure that Wayne's playing on that one.

Here's another one with some nice pickin' by Wayne.

Here's one of the original guys to sing that one. Dick Miller, Skeets McDonald and Eddy Drake all recorded that song in the early sixties. All three versions had Ralph Mooney on pedal steel. Sounds like Jonie Mosby singing harmony on this version.

That's what I've been doing too . Sometimes youtube will eff 'em up if there is a copyright issue and that's sometime why you can't find them in the first place. That song was written by Mitchell Torok. He used to write a lot of Latin beat country songs, like his biggest hit.

He has written quite a few other country and rockabilly songs, including I Can Stand It for Bill Phillips and this one (reposted) from our old friend Vernon Oxford.

I guess the re-release is the one I remember then. I'll check with my brother and see. I don't think that was the first time Sam pulled a songwriter special. He probably traded studio time for possible future royalties.

TGF, you are really getting to know your Buckaroos! I see Don, but I don't know them well enough to identify the other two.

That album is one of the 2 or 3 most influential albums in my life.

Yep, that's a good one. I was at a yard sale last summer and saw a cd binder I wanted for $3.00. I opened it up and inside were 3 Vince Gills, 1 Alan Jackson, and vols. 1 and 2 of "Circle". Best 3 bucks I ever spent!

The show last night was magnificent! Couldn't have gotten better seats. No photography was allowed but I guy next to me had 2 top line Canons and spent 20 minutes in prep time for a shoot; the waitress told he better check with the groups management first. He came back and packed up his equipment and said he asked Steve(Earle) if it was OK. Said Steve told him bluntly "Don't. Shelby doesn't like her picture taken". He looked like a ghost, I don't know what else Steve might have told him:lol:
But there were a few snap-shooters in the crowd and as long as there was no flash, the venue let it slide. So here is a short clip of the sisters doing a Buck song.

So now I'm gonna move the time machine dial up to the 50's with some ol' fashion rockabilly, and to start it off is the only version of Guitar Boogie I ever knew, until much later on.

I like it for a number of reasons:

1. You can hear the Telecaster, Pedal Steel, and Fiddle quite clearly.
2. More importantly, there's a lack of synthesizers and 'other' elements.
3. The writing is relate-able to me on a basic level.

Bonnie Owens and Merle Haggard - Forever and

Bonnie and Merle were a great duet! I'm sure she must have done duets with Buck too. Any posted Dave W?
I don't think we've heard from Johnny & Jonie Mosby in this thread. They're largely forgotten today but they were quite popular in the 60s.

You just convinced me to remember them! First cut was a killer.
Thanks for the tip on imbedding youtube videos...

See Davidge, that wasn't so hard, was it?

Stephen, The Lonesome Sound of Hank Williams includes:
1 It Just Don't Matter Now
2 First Year Blues
3 Cool Water
4 Dixie Cannonball
5 I'm Free At Last
6 Roly Poly
7 The Old Home
8 Rock My Cradle
9 Sundown and Sorrow
10 Rockin' Chair Money
11 Tennessee Border
12 Swing Wide Your Gate of Love

The particular tune on the video, penned by Ernest Tubb, also is available on the Hank Williams album Alone With His Guitar, which he performed live and solo at a radio station. There aren't enough superlatives to describe Alone With His Guitar...it's like pulling up a chair and sitting alone in a room with Hank Williams, listening to him play and sing.

You can download The Lonesome Sound of Hank Williams at iTunes for 5 or 6 bucks.

I saw Hank Thompson perform in the late '80s, and he still sounded just like this... and with all the trends that came and went in country music, he never changed his band style in 50 years of performing. It was always the same western swing and pop jazz-based sound.

Hey Rick, I have only heard about a quarter of those, so I'll be downloading.

Yup, why change when you already have a fabulous sound going on.

Hahaha:lol: Thanks, but it's NOT my birthday! I saw that thread about notifying the admin if your birthday had changed. Somehow my birthday got listed as December so I thought I should correct it. It's actually in March, but it was nice pretending I was still 59 again.

I have been driving a lot this week (seems like old times) so I'm in another Trucker mood. I have never been a big fan of GP, but this poorly recorded song with ELH is really good; and then some more (I think one has been sitting in the archives).

Love "Dirty Little Town"! I always think that is Steve Earl (I guess because of Guitar Town). Those other 2 truckers were unfamilar but I sure do like them.
Country music from a different country.

Eli, Irish country! Thats where a lot of the origins were. Pete Seeger is a guy who baffles me. Done some great material but he always reminds me of a crotchety old liberal professor.

TGF, that is classic> Bonnie and Norah mmmmm!
Mud that was a fine/fine train song; maybe we need to start another.

I think, there 4 I am; that I may have posted this memory in the past.
Some don’t think much of HW Jr. (including one of my favorite posters here)
I have to tell you that once upon a time I thought the same thing too; I got wised up when he opened for Loretta, and he just blew my already blown mind. He has the voice of a legend. True that, after his slide down a mountain he was addled in the head and went on to infamy doing Monday night football and lesser known things that made him the parody that he struggled so hard to defuse. Went to see him in Waldorf, MD in ’73 and I was not allowed in because I was Venom Wearin’ Denim. Only had like 5 bucks in my pocket and the bounce-ee said I had to put on respectable clothes to enter the hallowed hall of this juke joint.
So I go to Zayres and buy a flake out pants for 5 bills and return. I had talked to HW Jr at his bus and he said “I don’t make the rules, I’ll play one for you at the show.” Well it was Merle Kilgore who did the honors; he still looked very straight back then and was laughing his assoff about my predicament and he treated me to all drinks on the house. Wonderful man he was.

He sure can! Maybe the problem with good artists not making *it* has something to do with names. I mean I would not name a road-kill Kenny.
There are just too many "artists" who have blasphemed that name ala Rogers, Chesny, G, and I could go one forever and that reminds me:
