Actually I posted about Jerry Jericho and Frankie Miller earlier in this thread, but with the volume of posts here I can see how you might have missed them. Smilin' Jerry Jericho was a fixture around Houston when I was growing up. He started out as a singer with Ben Christian's band (before my time) and later took it over when Ben retired. He also helped his nephew Johnny Bush get started. The person who posted the Woodard version on YouTube claims it's the original and that (composer) Henry Strzelecki was his bass player. I don't think either is correct. The story in the blog link says that the Four Flickers did the original, and that Strzelecki and his brother were in that group. And that info came from a 1968 article in Billboard. I searched for Henry Strzelecki and was surprised. He has been a session bassist on many famous recordings and also played with Johnny Cash's show band for awhile. Thats where a lot of the origins were. Pete Seeger is a guy who baffles me. Done some great material but he always reminds me of a crotchety old liberal professor. Nice stuff there Jamie! I'm a big fan of Norma Jean (Porter can't hurt either) You'll find a lotta love here for the Buckaroos! Don't recall now who turned me on to these guys, but they have been one of my best finds on here: 1gX1EP6mG-E uyUOe7HAkpk G-ZrVZNTDfA zXf-SuBbJa0 oOWAQ53cAYE tgfmike December 3rd, 2010, 10:40 AM Don Rich & The Buckaroos - Cajun Fiddle vbafk7_UY20 ibobunot December 3rd, 2010, 12:12 PM 11 Bones Wild and Unholy pS92wX2LpLc Don't Want To Fall In Love -Fn-s61WGcI Losers 7Ep4_M0cvJ8 Dan Auerbach - Heartbroken, In Disrepair (outstanding in their field) 9o4l10CtN7g elihu December 3rd, 2010, 05:21 PM StephenX, I remember when you posted Paint Me a Birmingham from this guy. Mud that was a fine/fine train song; maybe we need to start another. I think, there 4 I am; that I may have posted this memory in the past. Some don’t think much of HW Jr. (including one of my favorite posters here) I have to tell you that once upon a time I thought the same thing too; I got wised up when he opened for Loretta, and he just blew my already blown mind. He has the voice of a legend. True that, after his slide down a mountain he was addled in the head and went on to infamy doing Monday night football and lesser known things that made him the parody that he struggled so hard to defuse. Went to see him in Waldorf, MD in ’73 and I was not allowed in because I was Venom Wearin’ Denim. Only had like 5 bucks in my pocket and the bounce-ee said I had to put on respectable clothes to enter the hallowed hall of this juke joint. So I go to Zayres and buy a flake out pants for 5 bills and return. I had talked to HW Jr at his bus and he said “I don’t make the rules, I’ll play one for you at the show.” Well it was Merle Kilgore who did the honors; he still looked very straight back then and was laughing his assoff about my predicament and he treated me to all drinks on the house. Wonderful man he was. y7JkUDgKVW8 Buckocaster51 December 4th, 2010, 07:32 PM Had a bit of snow around here last night... might as well celebrate it! jsM3xIh-ftI StephenX December 4th, 2010, 08:36 PM Snowing here too Bucko! StephenX December 4th, 2010, 09:45 PM Another by Kenny Dale The guy can flat out sing! He sure can! Maybe the problem with good artists not making *it* has something to do with names. I mean I would not name a road-kill Kenny. There are just too many "artists" who have blasphemed that name ala Rogers, Chesny, G, and I could go one forever and that reminds me: jJ_sE4ZvWuE tgfmike December 4th, 2010, 11:15 PM Ernest Tubb - Please Release Me CknGpZmIYDY StephenX December 4th, 2010, 11:31 PM Love that Mike!
