Aybody remember that story of old Hank Williams hanging with Ernest Tub and Roy Acuff? He was on a bill with the guys and he was feeling pretty good at this point, when he offerred the other two the key to his sound, and success.."I just take a little of ol Ernest here and add a little bit of Acuff, and you put em both together and you get me!" The other two were not amused. Hanks would soon dominate the country music charts.

Never heard that story, and it doesn't ring true to me. Tubb's style was very different from Hank's, and Acuff was not a honky tonk singer or writer, hard to see anything but an indirect influence. Also, no disrespect to Roy or Ernest, but Hank was miles ahead of them as a singer.

There's nothing to reconsider. The authors are legit, but it's still second and third hand information. As for the old-timers he contacted, keep in mind that intelligent and well-meaning people sometimes do not remember things the way they actually happened, and in some cases believe they remember things that never really happened. I have talked to people who used to know each other but have opposite memories of things they have done together.

This reminds me of the family of a late country singer who no longer give information about him to anyone outside their circle of family and friends. In the words of his son, he's read and heard so many stories over the years about his father that absolutely never happened, and it really bothers them.
